On-Prem Servers to Azure and OneDrive to SharePoint

Two migrations in one engagement: an on-premises server environment moved into Azure, and an entire OneDrive estate restructured into SharePoint so the business's files had one home with proper permissions.

ServiceCloud and file migration
The Challenge

The client's servers lived in the office, which meant the business lived with the office: power, cooling, hardware age and physical access all decided whether people could work. At the same time, years of files had accumulated in individual OneDrive accounts and were shared ad hoc, so ownership followed people rather than the business.

Both problems had the same shape. Critical assets sat in places that were convenient once and had become a risk.

What NetSys Did

The approach

1

Server migration to Azure

Each on-prem workload was assessed, sized and moved into Azure with identity anchored in Entra ID, so the environment no longer depends on the building it used to sit in.

2

Information architecture for SharePoint

Before moving a single file we designed the SharePoint structure: sites by function, libraries by purpose, permission groups by role, retention set deliberately rather than inherited from whoever created a folder.

3

OneDrive to SharePoint migration

The full OneDrive estate was migrated into that structure, sharing links were remapped, and staff were shown where their work now lives.

4

Backup and operations

Backups were set for both the Azure environment and Microsoft 365, and NetSys took on monitoring and day-to-day management of the new platform.

Deployed Stack
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • SharePoint Online
  • OneDrive for Business
  • Microsoft 365 backup
  • 24/7 monitoring
Outcomes

What changed

  • The business no longer depends on hardware in its own office
  • Files live in SharePoint with permissions tied to roles rather than individuals
  • One managed platform for servers, identity and files

Client anonymized. This write-up is limited to the scope NetSys delivered; no outcome figures were measured for publication.
