What wealth management IT looks like in Charlotte
Charlotte's advisory market grew up beside its banks. Wirehouse, private bank and trust teams have worked here for decades, and advisers who leave to form or join independent RIAs take clients, data and new obligations with them. SouthPark has become an address for much of that business: in April 2026 JPMorganChase announced a corporate office of about 145,000 square feet at One Piedmont Town Center in SouthPark, built for more than 1,000 employees, and multi-family office and private wealth firms keep offices along Sharon and Fairview roads. Just over the state line, LPL Financial opened its Carolinas campus in Fort Mill in 2016. A typical independent practice here has 5 to 40 people, one or two custodians, a CRM, financial planning software, portfolio reporting and rebalancing tools, e-signature, a client portal and Microsoft 365. Clients skew older and wealthy, which makes them targets for impersonation, and the custodian moves money on instructions your staff send. So the IT work is mostly about identity, email and proving to an examiner that controls existed on the day they asked about.
Remote support for advisory offices, and how quickly it responds
NetSys supports Charlotte advisory firms entirely from Brooklyn. We do not send engineers to Charlotte offices, so the setup is designed to need none: laptops are enrolled through Windows Autopilot and Intune, encrypted and shipped to each adviser, and the office firewall and Wi-Fi arrive configured for whoever looks after your suite to plug in. A person picks up between 4 a.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern every day, so a pre-market call or an evening client meeting is covered by a person. Critical issues get a phone response within ten minutes and remote work within thirty. A compromised mailbox, ransomware or a custodian portal lockout goes straight to the firm's dedicated engineer, and your account manager has a real cell number for anything that needs a decision.
Custodians, portals and the money-movement controls examiners test
The custodian platform, CRM, planning software and portfolio reporting are cloud services, so the controls that matter sit around them. We put phishing-resistant multifactor sign-in on Microsoft 365 and every platform that supports single sign-on, block sign-ins from countries where you do not work, and alert on new mailbox forwarding rules, the classic sign of an account takeover. Keeper holds shared custodian and vendor credentials with access logs. For money movement we write and enforce a call-back procedure: any change to standing instructions or a first-time wire is confirmed by phone to a number on file, never one taken from the email. Email and Teams are retained and searchable under your books-and-records policy, and client documents go out through encrypted email or the portal rather than as attachments.
Business continuity and the exam file
An examiner will ask what happens if your office or a key vendor is unavailable. We answer with a plan staff can follow: cloud systems reachable from any managed laptop, Microsoft 365 backed up separately from Microsoft's own retention, a contact tree that works without email, and a second way to reach each custodian's service desk. Charlotte's ice storms and hurricane remnants have cut power across the region for days, so the plan assumes the office is dark, not merely offline. We keep the evidence in one place: the asset inventory, access reviews, patch reports, KnowBe4 training records, vulnerability scans, backup tests and incident logs, organized so your chief compliance officer can hand them over during an exam without a scramble.

Rules that apply to Charlotte wealth management firms
SEC Regulation S-P, as amended in 2024
SEC-registered advisers and broker-dealers must keep a written incident response program that detects, responds to and recovers from unauthorized access to customer information, oversee service providers through due diligence and monitoring, and notify affected individuals as soon as practicable and no later than 30 days after becoming aware of unauthorized access to sensitive customer information. The firm's procedures must require its service providers to notify it within 72 hours of a breach in systems they maintain. Larger entities had to comply by December 3, 2025 and smaller entities by June 3, 2026.
State-registered advisers and the Securities Division
Advisers with less than $100 million in regulatory assets under management generally register with their state rather than the SEC. In North Carolina that means the Secretary of State's Securities Division, which generally examines state-registered advisers with main offices in the state. A small RIA should expect questions about how client records are protected and retained, and should keep written policies, access controls and backup evidence sized to the firm.
FINRA Rule 4370 for dually registered advisers
Advisers who are also registered representatives work under a broker-dealer's supervision, and FINRA Rule 4370 requires member firms to maintain a business continuity plan, review it annually and keep two emergency contacts current with FINRA. Your broker-dealer sets technology rules for its representatives; we configure devices, email and archiving to meet them and document the local pieces of the plan.
North Carolina's Identity Theft Protection Act
A breach of client personal information triggers N.C. Gen. Stat. § 75-65: notice to affected people without unreasonable delay, notice to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, and notice to the credit bureaus if more than 1,000 people are notified at once. Encrypted data is outside the breach definition unless the key was also taken, which is why every laptop and phone we manage is encrypted. This is general information, not legal advice.

Wealth Management Firms in Charlotte: FAQs
Who provides IT support for financial advisors in Charlotte?
NetSys supports Charlotte RIAs, independent advisory teams, family offices and planning practices remotely from its office in Brooklyn, NY. We manage laptops, phones, Microsoft 365, email retention, security monitoring and backups, and we coordinate with your custodian, CRM and planning vendors when something breaks. NetSys does not provide on-site service in Charlotte; equipment ships configured. Agreements run month to month, and the firm gets a dedicated engineer for severe problems plus an account manager with a direct cell number.
How does IT support work for Charlotte advisory firms?
It is remote and runs on Eastern time. The help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m., and 24/7 monitoring and emergency response cover the remaining hours. Advisers call, email or message in Teams and reach an engineer rather than a call center. Onboarding starts with an inventory of devices, accounts, vendors and data, then Intune enrollment, Microsoft 365 hardening and backup setup over three to four weeks, scheduled so nothing changes during quarter-end billing or reporting.
What does IT support cost for a wealth management firm in Charlotte?
It is priced per user per month after an assessment, and we do not publish rates. Drivers include headcount and devices, the number of offices, how long email and Teams must be retained and whether you need a separate archive, the compliance documentation you want maintained for Regulation S-P and exams, and whether an outside compliance consultant or internal IT person shares the work. Security tools, monitoring, patching, backups and vendor coordination are in the fee; new hardware and projects such as a breakaway launch are quoted separately.
How do you help Charlotte RIAs meet the amended Regulation S-P?
We build the technical side of the incident response program and keep its records. That covers detection through ThreatDown and Microsoft 365 alerting, documented containment steps, a playbook for deciding whether sensitive customer information was accessed, timelines that leave room for the 30-day customer notice, and a service-provider list with security reviews and the 72-hour notification terms. Your chief compliance officer owns the policy and the notice decisions; we supply the facts and logs they rely on.
Do you support our custodian, CRM and portfolio reporting platforms?
We support everything those platforms need from your side: workstations and browsers, single sign-on and multifactor setup, user provisioning and removal, network and firewall rules, data feeds that land in shared folders, and the support cases with each vendor. We do not claim to administer a vendor's application. When a portal will not load or a data sync fails, we check our side, gather the details and work the case with the vendor until it is fixed.
Can you help an advisory team breaking away to start an independent RIA in Charlotte?
Yes. A breakaway needs a new Microsoft 365 tenant, devices, phones, email archiving, a client portal and security controls ready on day one, often on a timeline set by the resignation date. We build the tenant and policies ahead of time, ship encrypted laptops to each adviser, configure archiving and retention before the first client email, and document the controls for the new firm's compliance manual. Client data from the old firm is not copied by us; clients come over through the transition process your counsel defines.
