Cybersecurity Services in St. Louis, MO

A St. Louis health system lost full use of its electronic records for weeks in 2024 after one malicious download, and a school district and a suburb have been hit since. NetSys runs managed security for St. Louis organizations that want monitored endpoints, hardened Microsoft 365 sign-ins, filtered email, backups attackers cannot erase and evidence for regulators.

All IT services in St. Louis, MO

The short answer

NetSys provides cybersecurity services to St. Louis organizations as a remote managed program: ThreatDown endpoint detection with a managed response team, Microsoft Defender for Business, Entra ID Conditional Access with multifactor authentication, Barracuda email protection, Rapid7 InsightVM vulnerability management, KnowBe4 security awareness training, Keeper password management and immutable backups. The program is deployed and monitored over the network, and NetSys does not send engineers on site in St. Louis. Controls are documented against Missouri's and Illinois's breach laws and, where relevant, HIPAA, SEC Regulation S-P, the FTC Safeguards Rule or NIST SP 800-171.

How cybersecurity is delivered in St. Louis

The program is installed and operated remotely. During the first weeks we deploy ThreatDown and NinjaOne to every computer, apply Conditional Access and multifactor policies in your Entra ID tenant, route email through Barracuda, connect firewall logs and schedule the first InsightVM scan. After that, ThreatDown's analysts and our engineers watch alerts together. Containment is remote: a suspicious laptop can be cut off from the network, a compromised account disabled and its tokens revoked, and a malicious inbox rule removed within minutes, wherever the user is working. NetSys does not send responders to St. Louis offices, so incident work, evidence collection and restores are performed over the network, and replacement hardware ships ready to install. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time (3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central), seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.

What recent St. Louis attacks have in common

Ascension, headquartered in St. Louis, said its May 2024 ransomware attack began with an employee downloading a malicious file they believed was legitimate. The company took devices offline on May 8, its hospitals lost access to electronic records and ordering systems for weeks, and attackers removed files from seven of roughly 25,000 servers, leading to notices for about 5.6 million people. In February 2024 the Francis Howell School District in St. Charles County found malware encrypting systems and moved its schools to remote learning for two days. In 2026 University City confirmed on July 22 that a weeks-long outage of payments and permits was a cyberattack. The common threads are a single foothold, slow detection and long recovery, which is what managed detection, least-privilege accounts and immutable backups are designed to shorten.

Managed detection, identity and email controls

Most of the controls answer how attackers actually get in. Stolen or guessed passwords are blunted by multifactor authentication for every account, Conditional Access rules that block old sign-in protocols and unexpected locations, and separate administrator accounts used only for administration. Malicious downloads and ransomware meet ThreatDown EDR, whose managed detection analysts can stop a process and isolate a machine at any hour, with Microsoft Defender for Business layered in where licensing allows. Phishing and impersonation are filtered by Barracuda before mail reaches the inbox, and DMARC enforcement reduces spoofing of your own domain. Rapid7 InsightVM finds unpatched and exposed systems for NinjaOne to fix, KnowBe4 trains staff with realistic simulations, Keeper replaces shared spreadsheets of passwords, and immutable Datto or Veeam copies keep a clean restore point.

Security for St. Louis health care and financial firms

Two industries set the security bar here. Health care is the region's largest employer group, and practices, clinics, labs and billing firms that work with BJC, Mercy, SSM Health or Ascension sign business associate agreements and answer detailed vendor questionnaires. The HIPAA Security Rule requires a risk analysis, access controls, audit controls, integrity protections and transmission security; the update HHS proposed in January 2025 is still only a proposal, so we build to the current rule. Financial firms are the second group. Investment advisers and broker-dealers follow SEC Regulation S-P, amended in 2024 to require an incident response program and customer notification, while tax preparers and lenders follow the FTC Safeguards Rule, which requires reporting a breach of 500 or more consumers' unencrypted data to the FTC within 30 days. We map each control to the rule it satisfies.

Missouri, Illinois and biometric data

In Missouri, RSMo 407.1500 obliges a business to tell affected residents without unreasonable delay, and if one breach needs over 1,000 letters, the Attorney General and the consumer reporting agencies hear about it too; the Attorney General can seek civil penalties of up to $150,000 per breach. On the Illinois side, PIPA (815 ILCS 530) expects reasonable protection of residents' data, tells businesses to notify affected people in the most expedient time possible, and adds the Illinois Attorney General once a single breach reaches beyond 500 Illinoisans; a HIPAA-covered entity that reports a breach to HHS must also notify the Illinois Attorney General within five business days. Illinois's Biometric Information Privacy Act covers finger-scan time clocks and face readers, which we inventory and protect. Our incident records are built to support your counsel's notice decisions. This is general information, not legal advice.

Published case study

Firewall, antivirus and maintenance for a five-person office

A five-person office needed the basics done properly rather than an enterprise stack. NetSys replaced the internet provider's router with a business-grade firewall configured with sensible rules, secure remote access and logging, deployed managed antivirus on every machine with updates and alerts handled centrally, and put patching, backup checks and health reviews on a schedule. The agreement covers what the office needs and nothing it does not, month to month. No outcome figures were measured for publication.

What cybersecurity costs in St Louis

Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.

How the monthly fee is built

Who this fits, and who it does not

Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Common Questions

Cybersecurity in St Louis: FAQs

How does cybersecurity work for St. Louis organizations?

Think of it as a security team you share. Onboarding installs the agents and policies remotely; after that ThreatDown's analysts and NetSys engineers review alerts from every endpoint, mailbox and firewall, and they act directly, quarantining a laptop, cutting off an account or pulling a phishing message from every inbox. Emergency response is available at any hour, the help desk takes calls from 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central, and serious incidents route to your dedicated engineer. NetSys does not send staff on site in St. Louis or the Metro East.

How much do cybersecurity services cost in St. Louis?

For managed IT clients, the security stack is part of the per-user monthly fee. A standalone security program is quoted after a scoping call; we do not publish prices. The figure depends on users, endpoints and servers, the Microsoft 365 licenses already in place, whether you need HIPAA, SEC, FTC Safeguards or NIST SP 800-171 documentation, and the remediation the first vulnerability scan uncovers. The external penetration test is free, runs remotely and stays within a scope agreed in writing.

Can you help a Metro East employer with BIPA?

Yes, on the technical side. We find every system that collects fingerprints, hand geometry or face scans, usually time clocks and door readers, document where the templates are stored and who can reach them, encrypt and restrict that storage, and set deletion according to the retention policy your counsel writes. The Act requires written consent before collection and a public retention and destruction schedule, and the August 2, 2024 amendment counts repeated scans of one person by the same method as a single violation. Your attorney decides the policy; we make the systems follow it.

What should a St. Louis firm do in the first hour of a ransomware attack?

Disconnect affected computers from the network but leave them powered on, so evidence survives. Call your dedicated engineer, then your cyber insurer's hotline, because many policies require their approved responders. Do not pay or contact the attacker before counsel and the insurer are involved. Our team isolates devices remotely, disables compromised accounts, preserves logs and begins restoring from immutable backups once the environment is clean. In the past three years NetSys has worked more than 30 ransomware incidents and recovered every one fully; where a disaster recovery plan already existed, the business was operating again inside 24 hours.

Do you offer security assessments without a managed agreement?

Yes. St. Louis organizations with their own IT staff can engage us for a security assessment, Microsoft 365 hardening, a HIPAA risk analysis, a NIST SP 800-171 gap review, a phishing program or an incident response plan tested in a tabletop exercise. Each comes with a written scope, findings ranked by risk and a remediation plan your team can carry out. The free remote external penetration test is a sensible place to start, because it shows what an attacker on the internet can see today.

Start with the free test

See what an attacker sees before they do.

The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
