Claude Team is Anthropic's self-serve company plan for 2 to 150 people: $20 per standard seat per month billed annually or $25 monthly, with each seat's usage included, plus SSO, domain capture and admin controls. Claude Enterprise is $20 per seat per month billed annually with a 20-seat minimum, usage billed separately at API rates, and the controls larger or regulated companies ask for: SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom data retention, custom roles, IP allowlisting and a HIPAA-ready configuration, all as of October 2026. Choose Team when you need a managed workspace this week; choose Enterprise when identity automation, audit evidence, retention control or a business associate agreement is a requirement rather than a preference.
Whether you search for the Team plan versus the Enterprise plan, Teams versus Enterprise, or Team versus Enterprise pricing or security, it is the same decision, so this page covers all of it in one place. Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant, available as chat, as Claude Cowork for multi-step work on files and connected tools, and as Claude Code for developers; both company plans include all three. Identity and administration: what does each plan require from you?
Both plans let you sign staff in through your identity provider, claim your email domain and create accounts on first sign-in. The gap is SCIM. Without it, removing a leaver from Claude is a manual step in the admin console, and a step that is forgotten is a live account with the company's projects in it. Enterprise supports SCIM; the Team article does not mention it, and Anthropic's Claude Code identity documentation describes Enterprise as adding role-based permissions and the Compliance API on top of Team's self-service administration (it names domain capture there too, although the Team plan article lists domain capture in Team standard seats).
Roles differ too. Team has owners and members, which is enough for a 20-person company with one administrator. Enterprise lets you define custom roles, which matters when the person who approves connectors should not be the person who manages billing, or when only a finance group may use a connector's write tools. Spend control exists on both: Team has spend caps at organization and user level on its usage credits, and Enterprise has spend limits at the same two levels on API-rate usage.
Data and connector controls: where do the plans really differ?
On training, there is no difference: Anthropic's commercial privacy article says inputs and outputs from commercial products are not used for training by default, on either plan. The differences are in evidence and control:
- Audit logs and the Compliance API are Enterprise features. The Compliance API exposes usage data, activity logs, chat histories and file content, filterable by user and time range, which is what an auditor or an investigation needs. Team gives you no equivalent.
- Retention. Team runs on Anthropic's defaults: deleted chats leave history immediately and back-end storage within 30 days. Enterprise adds custom retention controls, and the solutions page states that retention controls and OpenTelemetry monitoring are available on Enterprise only.
- Connectors. Both plans offer the same built-in connectors, and on both only owners can enable the Microsoft 365 connector or add a custom connector. Enterprise adds org-wide approval and per-tool permissions, and its custom roles can restrict who may use write tools, such as sending mail from Outlook or posting to Teams. On Team, a write tool is on or off for everyone.
- Cowork. Cloud Cowork sessions on Enterprise default to no network access until an admin sets a policy; Team's cloud Cowork is in beta. Admins on both plans can require trusted devices and turn off persistent "always allow" approvals.
- Keys, region and network. Customer-managed encryption keys, US-only inference and IP allowlisting exist on Enterprise only.
- HIPAA. Only Enterprise can enable the HIPAA-ready configuration, only the Primary Owner can accept the BAA, and the decision is one-way. Anthropic's BAA article says the agreement does not cover connectors, Claude in Chrome, Skills or cloud Cowork, so a covered entity still needs an internal rule about which features staff use. Our post on which AI tools sign a BAA compares the vendors.
Which commercial terms should you confirm before signing?
- The seat minimum. 20 seats self-serve and 50 sales-assisted as of October 2026. A 14-person company cannot buy Enterprise without paying for empty seats.
- Annual commitment. Enterprise is annual only. Team can be monthly, which suits a pilot.
- Usage. Enterprise includes no token allowance; every conversation, Cowork task and Claude Code session is metered at API rates. Ask for a usage estimate per role and set spend limits on day one. Team's usage is inside the seat, with weekly limits per member.
- Payment mechanics. Self-serve Enterprise pays by card or ACH and buys usage credits up front; sales-assisted is invoiced monthly in arrears, and invoices of $50,000 or more are bank transfer only.
- Legacy seat types. Older Enterprise contracts with "Chat" and "Chat + Claude Code" or "Standard" and "Premium" seats move to the single usage-based seat at renewal. If you are renewing, model the new billing before you sign.
- Team's ceiling. 150 seats. Past that, Enterprise is the only option.
- API credits. Team includes up to $500 a month in pooled API credits; Enterprise usage is already billed at API rates. If you plan to build on the Claude API, this changes the arithmetic.
Claude Team vs Enterprise security: what does the word cover?
Both plans sit under the same certifications: Anthropic's Privacy Center lists SOC 2 Type I and Type II, ISO 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 42001:2023 for its commercial products. The security difference is not the model or the encryption in transit; it is whether you can prove what happened. Enterprise gives you audit logs, the Compliance API, retention you set, keys you hold and a network allowlist. Team gives you SSO, owner-only connector control and spend caps. If your security questionnaire asks whether you can produce a log of what each user did with the AI tool, that line decides the plan.
A selection checklist
- Count the people who will use Claude in the next twelve months. Under 20, Team is the only plan you can buy self-serve; over 150, Enterprise is the only plan at all.
- List the contractual and regulatory requirements: HIPAA, client audit clauses, retention rules. Any of them pushes you to Enterprise.
- Decide whether offboarding must be automatic (SCIM) or can be a help desk step.
- Decide whether anyone needs to produce activity records for an auditor or an HR investigation.
- Estimate usage per role. Heavy Cowork and Claude Code users cost more on Enterprise's metered model and may exhaust a Team standard seat's weekly limit, which is what premium seats are for.
- Check whether a connector needs write access for some people and not others.
- Confirm the payment path your finance team will accept.
- Write down who owns the workspace and who approves connectors, whichever plan you choose.
Which fits a small company?
Illustrative situations, not client stories:
- A 12-person design agency. Team, billed monthly for the first quarter, two premium seats for the people who live in Cowork, everyone else standard.
- A 30-person accounting firm with client confidentiality clauses. Enterprise, because the engagement letters require activity records and defined retention, and because SCIM ties seasonal staff to the HR system.
- A 25-person medical billing company. Enterprise with the HIPAA-ready configuration, and an internal rule that excludes connectors and cloud Cowork from PHI work because the BAA does not cover them.

Frequently asked questions
Is Claude Enterprise worth it over Team for a small company?
Usually not below 20 people, because you cannot buy fewer than 20 seats self-serve. It becomes worth it when a contract, a regulator or an auditor requires audit logs, SCIM, custom retention or a BAA, none of which Team offers as of October 2026.
Does Claude Team have SCIM?
Anthropic's Team article lists SSO, domain capture and just-in-time provisioning, not SCIM. SCIM appears on the Enterprise feature lists. On Team, deprovisioning is a manual step in the admin console.
Does Claude Team have audit logs?
No. Audit logs, the Compliance API and the Analytics API are Enterprise features. Team owners can manage members and spend but do not get a per-user activity log.
What is the Claude Enterprise seat minimum?
20 seats when bought self-serve and 50 seats when bought through Anthropic's sales team, as of October 2026, at $20 per seat per month billed annually, with usage billed on top at API rates.
Is Claude Team HIPAA compliant?
Team cannot enable Anthropic's HIPAA-ready configuration. Only Enterprise can, and only the Primary Owner can accept the BAA. Even on Enterprise, connectors, Skills, Claude in Chrome and cloud Cowork fall outside the BAA.
How is Claude Team vs Enterprise pricing different in practice?
Team is a predictable per-seat cost with usage inside it. Enterprise is the same $20 seat plus a variable usage bill, so a heavy user costs more than a light one. For budgeting, Team is simpler; for very large or very light usage, Enterprise can be cheaper or dearer per person depending on consumption.
NetSys can review your requirements list against both plans and set up the one that fits, with identity, connectors and policies in place before the first invitation. Request a Claude rollout review.
