Manufacturing IT Support in Norwalk, CT
Norwalk's manufacturers range from a chemical company that has worked on Winfield Street since the 1920s to equipment makers headquartered at Merritt 7 and a specialty chemical producer moving its plant in phases. NetSys supports their offices, plants and shop-floor networks from Brooklyn, about 80 minutes away by car, with engineers on site when the work calls for it.
The short answer
NetSys provides IT support for manufacturers in Norwalk, CT: the ERP and its database, plant and office networks, segmentation between production systems and email, Windows PCs at machine stations, ThreatDown detection and response, tested Datto backups and NIST SP 800-171 evidence for defense suppliers. Norwalk is inside our on-site area, so engineers come from our Park Slope office for installs, plant network work and hardware, while most issues are resolved remotely first. Agreements are priced per user per month and run month to month.

What changes for a Norwalk manufacturer
Norwalk has made things since its mill era, and some of that industry is still here. R.T. Vanderbilt set up research and manufacturing on Winfield Street in the 1920s, and the company is still headquartered in the city. King Industries, a family-owned specialty chemical maker founded in 1932, has run its plant in Norwalk for decades and, according to the architects designing its new campus, is relocating in phases to an 11-acre site in Waterbury, partly because new housing now surrounds the Norwalk plant. Terex runs its corporate headquarters from 301 Merritt 7, and Timex Group lists a Norwalk address. That mix produces particular IT problems: plants squeezed by residential development, companies running production in one city and headquarters in another, and industrial buildings whose wiring predates everyone on staff. A Norwalk manufacturer needs networks that link plant, office and remote sites securely, and an IT partner that can plan a phased move without losing a day of batches or shipments.
On-site and remote support from Park Slope
Norwalk is about 53 road miles from our office, roughly 80 minutes with light traffic and longer when I-95 or the Merritt Parkway backs up, so we schedule plant work early or late in the day. Engineers come on site for network closets and floor switches, access points in high-bay space, PC swaps at machine stations, server replacements and moves between buildings. Everything else starts remotely through NinjaOne, which reaches office PCs, servers and the shop-floor machines you allow us to manage. If you run a second plant elsewhere in Connecticut beyond our on-site area, the same tools manage it remotely and replacement hardware ships pre-configured. Severe problems such as ransomware, a down ERP or a dead internet circuit go straight to your dedicated engineer.
Plant networks, OT segmentation and the ERP
In a chemical or equipment plant, the network carries more than email: batch records, scale and label printers, quality lab instruments, PLC programming laptops and sometimes remote access for an equipment vendor. We map all of it before changing anything. Production systems go on their own segments behind a Meraki or Fortinet firewall with rules that allow only the traffic each needs, vendor remote access goes through a logged, time-limited connection instead of an always-on tool, and engineering laptops get ThreatDown and Defender for Business like any other endpoint. The ERP database is backed up to Datto SIRIS every night with an off-site copy and a restore test on a schedule. Lot and batch traceability depends on that database, so the recovery time is agreed with you in writing.
Moving a plant, storms and staying in production
Relocating production, as King Industries is doing in stages, is an IT project as much as a construction one. Circuits at the new site must be ordered months ahead, the ERP has to serve two locations during the transition, and label, scale and lab systems must be validated in their new home before the old line stops. We plan those cutovers in phases with a rollback for each. Weather is the other recurring risk on the Norwalk River and the harbor. Sandy left most of the city without power in October 2012, and after the remnants of Ida in September 2021 FEMA opened a disaster recovery center in Norwalk. Battery backup sized for a clean shutdown, a cellular failover path and off-site backups cover that risk.

Compliance rules for Norwalk manufacturers
NIST SP 800-171 and DFARS 252.204-7012
Defense suppliers in Norwalk that receive controlled unclassified information must implement the 110 security requirements of NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2, post a current self-assessment score and affirmation in the Supplier Performance Risk System, and report cyber incidents to the Department of War within 72 hours. Those obligations stand on their own, separate from the certification program.
CMMC after the July 2026 suspension
The Department of War suspended CMMC Phase 2 on July 13, 2026, so third-party Level 2 certification did not become a condition of award on November 10, 2026 as planned, and Phases 3 and 4 are on hold. A reform task force is reviewing the program and has not published its report. Self-assessments at Levels 1 and 2 continue where contracts require them.
Connecticut data law for employee and customer records
Employee files, payroll and customer contacts are personal information under Connecticut's breach statute, § 36a-701b: notice to affected residents within 60 days of discovering a breach and notice to the Attorney General no later than residents are notified. The Connecticut Data Privacy Act, amended July 1, 2026, adds security duties for companies above its 35,000-consumer threshold or handling any sensitive data.
A written program and Connecticut's safe harbor
Under Public Act 21-119, a company that created, maintained and complied with a written cybersecurity program conforming to a recognized framework, such as NIST SP 800-171 or the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, cannot be assessed punitive damages in certain breach lawsuits unless it was grossly negligent or acted willfully. The program you build for defense customers can serve both purposes. This is general information, not legal advice.

Manufacturers in Norwalk: FAQs
Who provides IT support for manufacturers in Norwalk?
NetSys, a managed IT and cybersecurity company founded in 1998 with one office, in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Norwalk is inside our on-site area, so engineers come to plants and offices for floor networks, server work and hardware, while monitoring, patching and most fixes run remotely. We have no Norwalk office and name no Norwalk companies as clients; our engineers hold degrees in electrical engineering, electronics engineering and computer science and are certified in Cisco and Microsoft.
What does IT support cost for a manufacturer in Norwalk?
Each agreement is priced per user per month from an assessment of your environment, and there is no published rate. Shared machine-station PCs, the number of servers and plants, whether controlled unclassified information is in scope, ERP hosting and backup retention, and the age of the network all affect it. Projects like a plant relocation, a floor resegmentation or an ERP server replacement are scoped and quoted on their own.
How do you help Norwalk manufacturers meet NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC?
We define where controlled unclassified information lives, often a small enclave of users and storage rather than the whole company, and build the required controls inside it: multifactor authentication, Conditional Access, audit logging, encryption, media handling and incident response. Each requirement is documented with evidence, we help you calculate the SPRS score honestly, and open items go into a plan of action. When certification resumes, the evidence is ready.
Will you work with our ERP vendor and equipment suppliers?
Yes. Application problems and upgrades belong with the ERP vendor or reseller and the equipment makers, so we coordinate with them while we look after the SQL databases, servers, user access, network paths and backups underneath. Release notes, license keys and integration settings are kept in IT Glue. We hold no certification on any named ERP, and we tell you plainly when an issue sits on the vendor's side.
Can you help us run two sites during a plant relocation?
Yes. We connect the old and new sites with a site-to-site VPN on matched firewalls, extend ERP and file access to both, move label, scale and lab systems in stages with a test at each step, and keep the old site's backups until the move is signed off. Norwalk is in our on-site area; a new site elsewhere in Connecticut may be supported remotely, depending on its distance from our office.
