Network Security Services & Firewall Management
A firewall needs more than an installation date. Someone must own access rules, vendor advisories, configuration backups and the decision to change a business connection. NetSys scopes that ongoing work alongside network segmentation and secure remote access, with documented responsibilities for the equipment, subscriptions and locations involved.
The short answer
Network security services protect the connections a business depends on: the firewall, the boundaries between staff, guest and device networks, remote access, and the alerts that show when something is wrong. NetSys manages firewall rules and updates, tests segmentation and records an owner for each connection. A firewall is one control within a wider security program, not a guarantee.
Begin with the connections the business needs: office internet, cloud applications, remote workers, vendors and links between sites. A rule without a recorded owner becomes hard to remove safely. We review the agreed configuration against those requirements, identifying unnecessary exposure, obsolete access and decisions that need a business owner.
Firewall management belongs here; the broader network management service covers connectivity, switching, Wi-Fi performance and availability. They often work together, but the responsibilities should be explicit. A security review should not be mistaken for complete endpoint protection, incident response or a formal compliance examination.
Review the baseline, agree changes and retain evidence
We establish authorized administrative access, record the supported devices and subscriptions, and review configuration and business dependencies. Proposed changes include the expected effect, validation checks and a recovery approach appropriate to the platform. The operating scope then sets responsibilities for advisories, maintenance, log review and escalation. Review frequency and response commitments are agreed for your environment, rather than implied by the word managed.
What to include in firewall and network security management
Firewall baseline and rule ownership
Understand the policy before adding another exception.
- Supported device models, software versions, vendor support status and security subscriptions
- Authorized administrators and management exposure, with stronger access controls where supported
- Business purpose, owner and review date for material inbound, outbound and vendor-access rules
- Configuration backups protected from unauthorized access and available for agreed recovery work
Changes, updates and recovery
A maintenance plan should account for business dependencies.
- Vendor advisories assessed against the deployed model, version and exposed functions
- Approved maintenance windows and exceptions when urgent mitigation is needed
- Change records, configuration comparison and representative connectivity tests
- Recovery steps based on vendor support, compatible backups and available replacement equipment
Segmentation and remote access
Allow necessary work while limiting unnecessary reach.
- Staff, guest, server and device-network boundaries matched to the business environment
- Access rules tested between segments rather than assuming a VLAN alone isolates traffic
- Named remote-access accounts, MFA and identity integration where the selected platform supports them
- Vendor access approval, expiry and removal checks when people or contracts change
Visibility and service handover
Know who receives an alert and who acts on it.
- Agreed logs, alert sources, retention and escalation contacts
- Documented rule owners, configuration decisions and accepted exceptions
- A split between firewall work, carrier issues, endpoint investigations and incident response
- Coverage hours, review cadence and service commitments recorded in the agreement

Firewall, segmentation and monitoring packages
Most businesses start with one package and add the others as the network grows. Each is scoped to your sites and equipment:
| Package | What's included | Scoped separately | Fits when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed firewall | Rule reviews with a named owner for each rule, approved changes, security updates, configuration backups, admin access control and remote-access accounts | Hardware, vendor security subscriptions and network redesign | You have a supported firewall and nobody owns its rules |
| Segmentation | Separate staff, guest, server and device networks, tested rules between them, and vendor access paths with expiry dates | New switches, access points or cabling | Cameras, printers, door access or payment devices share the office network |
| Monitoring | Agreed firewall and network logs sent to monitoring, alerts on admin changes and blocked threats, and escalation to named contacts | Incident investigation beyond the agreed scope, and carrier outages | You need someone watching alerts, not only a device that logs them |
The firewall package in detail, from onboarding to what moves the price: managed firewall services.
Coverage hours, review cadence and response commitments go into the agreement for your environment. Price depends on sites, devices, rule complexity and remote users; we publish no rate card.

Network Security & Firewall Management FAQs
Can you manage our existing firewall instead of replacing it?
Start with the model, software version, support contract, subscriptions and authorized administrative access. Existing equipment may be suitable if it supports the required controls and can be maintained. Unsupported hardware, missing access or an inadequate feature set can change the recommendation. We identify those constraints before proposing replacement or ongoing management.
What determines the cost of firewall management services?
The scope depends on device and site count, rule complexity, remote-access users, vendor connections, logging requirements and service coverage. Hardware, security subscriptions, remediation projects and ongoing management should appear separately in the proposal. A network redesign or incident investigation should not be assumed included in a routine firewall service.
How are updates and firewall rule changes handled?
The operating agreement defines who can request and approve changes, how vendor advisories are reviewed and how maintenance is prioritized. A planned change should have configuration protection, validation checks and a recovery decision. Some urgent vulnerabilities need temporary mitigation before an update is practical. Timing depends on risk, vendor guidance and the supported platform; it is not a universal fixed patching deadline.
Does the free external test include a firewall configuration review?
No. The free offer is a remote external penetration test limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope agreed with you. Reviewing internal rules, segmentation, logs or administrative configuration requires separate access authorization and scope. For firewall management, bring the device inventory and the connections your business needs so we can define the appropriate review.
What are network security services?
Network security services are the ongoing work that keeps a business network defensible: firewall management, segmentation between staff, guest and device networks, secure remote access, and monitoring of network alerts. They sit alongside endpoint protection and identity controls. Good service records who owns each rule and connection, so access can be removed safely later.
What is managed network security?
Managed network security means an outside team runs your network defenses day to day instead of installing them once. For NetSys that covers firewall rule reviews and changes, security updates, configuration backups, segmentation checks and alert escalation, under an agreement that names the coverage hours and who approves changes. Hardware and security subscriptions are priced separately. The firewall part has its own page, managed firewall services, which sets out what the monthly service includes and what moves the price.
Who responds when a network security alert fires?
The agreement gives each kind of alert one owner. NetSys monitoring runs 24/7: an engineer reviews firewall alerts such as admin changes and blocked threats, acts within the actions you approved in advance and calls your named contacts. A problem on a computer behind the firewall becomes an endpoint investigation, an internet outage goes to your carrier, and a confirmed breach moves to incident response.
What does a network security assessment cover?
The baseline review at the start covers the firewall's model, firmware and support status; who can administer it and whether its management page answers from the internet; each material rule, with its business purpose and owner; whether staff, guest and device networks are really separated, tested rather than assumed; remote-access and vendor accounts; and which logs are kept and who sees the alerts. You get a list of exposures and stale access, each with a recommended fix, before ongoing management starts.
