Cybersecurity Services in the Bronx, NY
Bronx clinics, human services agencies, wholesalers and law offices hold the records attackers sell: patient charts, Social Security numbers, payroll files and supplier bank details. NetSys puts controls in front of that data and watches them around the clock from our Brooklyn office, with engineers on site in the Bronx when a firewall, a camera network or a compromised machine needs hands.
The short answer
NetSys provides cybersecurity services in the Bronx for organizations that cannot absorb a breach or a week offline. The core is ThreatDown managed detection and response on every device, Microsoft Defender for Business, Entra ID Conditional Access with multifactor sign-in, Barracuda email protection, KnowBe4 training, Rapid7 InsightVM scanning and backups an attacker cannot delete. Monitoring and emergency response run 24/7. Engineers come on site anywhere in the borough for firewall, segmentation and incident work, and the free external penetration test, run remotely within an agreed scope, is the usual first step.

How cybersecurity is delivered in the Bronx
The Bronx is inside our on-site area. From Park Slope, Hunts Point is roughly a 35-minute drive without traffic and Fordham Road or Riverdale about 40, and the Cross Bronx Expressway adds its own delay. Detection does not wait for the drive. ThreatDown and Defender alerts reach our engineers as they fire, and an infected laptop can be cut off from the network remotely before anyone is in a car. Engineers come to your site to install or replace a Fortinet or Cisco Meraki firewall, move cameras and building systems onto their own network segment, pull a compromised machine for imaging, and walk the office with your manager after an incident. Ransomware and suspected account takeovers are routed directly to your dedicated engineer rather than a queue. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
What an insider case at a Bronx hospital teaches a small office
In February 2024 the HHS Office for Civil Rights announced a $4.75 million settlement with Montefiore Medical Center, the borough's largest employer. An employee had stolen and sold the records of more than 12,500 patients over about six months, and the hospital learned of it in 2015 only when law enforcement told it. OCR's findings were not about firewalls. The hospital had not adequately analyzed its risks, monitored activity in its systems or kept procedures for reviewing who looked at what. A ten-person practice on the Concourse carries the same exposure at a smaller scale. We turn on Microsoft 365 audit logging, alert on mass downloads and unusual sign-ins, give each person access only to the records their job needs, and remove access the day someone leaves, so an insider problem surfaces in weeks rather than years.
The attacks that actually reach Bronx organizations
Most incidents here start in an inbox or at the edge of the network. Wholesalers and contractors receive supplier invoices with changed bank details, sent from a mailbox the attacker has quietly read for weeks. Home care and human services agencies have staff reading email on phones between appointments, which makes a convincing fake sign-in page easy to fall for. Offices with an old firewall, a remote desktop port left open or a camera recorder exposed to the internet get found by automated scanning soon after they go online. The controls follow the pattern: Barracuda filtering and alerts on new forwarding rules, Conditional Access that blocks sign-ins from unmanaged devices, Rapid7 scans of your public addresses, and a written callback rule so any bank-detail change is confirmed by voice on a number you already had.
Clinics, agencies, insurers and Hunts Point tenants need different controls
A medical or dental practice starts with the risk analysis the HIPAA Security Rule requires, then access logging and encrypted, tested backups of the EHR and imaging data. A human services agency holding case files usually needs device management first, because caseworkers and aides carry the records with them: Intune enrollment, disk encryption and a remote wipe for a phone left on the 6 train. Insurance brokers and lenders licensed by the Department of Financial Services work to 23 NYCRR Part 500, with its multifactor and annual compliance filing requirements. A distributor at the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center needs its handheld scanners, refrigeration monitoring and cameras separated from the PCs that pay suppliers, so one compromised device cannot reach the money. The stack is the same in every case; the order of work is what changes.
Your first 30 days of security work in the Bronx
We start from the outside. The free external penetration test and a Rapid7 InsightVM scan show what the internet can see of you, and the first fixes usually come from that list. Within two weeks, ThreatDown and Defender are on every covered device, multifactor sign-in is enforced for every account, admin rights have moved to separate named accounts, and Barracuda is filtering mail. We confirm that backups are immutable and run a restore. KnowBe4 sends a baseline phishing test so training starts from your real click rate. Staff notice the sign-in prompt, a button for reporting suspicious email and the end of shared logins at the front desk. At day 30 you receive a written findings report and a priced list of what remains, such as an aging firewall or Windows 10 machines, which lost support on October 14, 2025.
Cybersecurity in The Bronx: what NetSys delivers
Watch and respond
- ThreatDown MDR and EDR on every device, with a 24/7 team that isolates and investigates rather than emails
- Rapid7 InsightIDR or Microsoft Sentinel collecting identity, email, endpoint and firewall logs so an intrusion is visible in one place
Harden the tenant and the people
- Microsoft Defender for Business, Entra ID Conditional Access and phishing-resistant sign-in for finance staff
- Legacy authentication off, dormant accounts closed, forwarding rules and consent grants reviewed monthly
Measure and recover
- Rapid7 InsightVM scans of the internal and external footprint, with a monthly fix list
- Managed firewall with intrusion prevention, segmentation and vendor access that is logged and switched off when the work ends
Firewall, antivirus and maintenance for a five-person office
A five-person office needed the basics done properly rather than an enterprise stack. NetSys replaced the internet provider's router with a business-grade firewall configured with sensible rules, secure remote access and logging, deployed managed antivirus on every machine with updates and alerts handled centrally, and put patching, backup checks and health reviews on a schedule. The agreement covers what the office needs and nothing it does not, month to month. No outcome figures were measured for publication.

What cybersecurity costs in The Bronx
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in The Bronx: FAQs
Do you provide on-site cybersecurity in the Bronx?
Yes. The whole borough, from Mott Haven to Co-op City, is inside the radius our engineers cover from the Brooklyn office. On-site work covers firewall installation and replacement, network segmentation, separating cameras and badge systems from office PCs, and incident response at your office along with the evidence handling that goes with it. Monitoring, alert triage and most containment happen remotely, because isolating an infected device over the network is faster than driving to it. Visits are scheduled around the incident and the building's access rules rather than promised in minutes.
How much do cybersecurity services cost in the Bronx?
Most Bronx organizations take security as part of a managed IT agreement priced per user per month, set after an assessment of what you have. The figure moves with the number of people and devices, servers and internet-facing systems, compliance scope such as HIPAA or Part 500, and whether you need email security, training and vulnerability scanning on top of endpoint protection. Projects such as a firewall replacement or an incident cleanup are quoted after scoping. We publish no price list, and agreements run month to month.
Which cybersecurity requirements apply to businesses in the Bronx?
Anyone holding New Yorkers' private information falls under the SHIELD Act. Section 899-bb of the General Business Law requires reasonable safeguards, and Section 899-aa requires that affected residents hear about a breach no later than 30 days after it is discovered, with the State Police, the Attorney General and the Department of State notified too. Practices and clinics add the HIPAA Security Rule, tax preparers the FTC Safeguards Rule, and DFS-licensed insurers and lenders 23 NYCRR Part 500. This is general information, not legal advice.
What happens if a Bronx business is hit by ransomware?
Call your dedicated engineer, whose number you already have. We isolate affected machines, work out how the attacker got in and what they touched, preserve logs for your insurer and counsel, and restore from backups the attacker could not reach. NetSys has handled more than 30 ransomware incidents in three years and every one was fully recovered; clients with a disaster recovery plan in place were back within 24 hours. The plan and the restore test come first, so the order in which systems return is settled before the bad day.
What does the free external penetration test cover?
It is a remote test of what your organization exposes to the internet, run within a scope we agree with you in writing first. Typical targets are your public IP addresses, the firewall and any VPN or remote desktop gateway, web logins, email security records and services that should not be reachable at all. You receive a written summary of what was found, ranked by risk, with the fixes in the order we would make them. It is the only free offer we make, and it involves no work inside your network.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
