Cybersecurity Services in Milwaukee, WI
Milwaukee companies face the same attackers who disrupted hospital systems and manufacturers in this region, usually with a fraction of their security staff. NetSys provides managed cybersecurity and IT security for Milwaukee businesses: 24/7 detection and response, email and identity protection, immutable backups and the compliance records that Wisconsin regulators and insurers ask to see.
The short answer
NetSys provides cybersecurity services to Milwaukee businesses as a managed program: ThreatDown managed detection and response watching every endpoint 24/7, Microsoft Defender for Business, Barracuda email protection, Entra ID Conditional Access with multifactor sign-in, Keeper password management, KnowBe4 phishing training, Rapid7 vulnerability scanning and immutable Datto or Veeam backups. Everything is delivered remotely from Brooklyn, incident response included, and NetSys does not send engineers on site in Milwaukee. The staffed help desk runs 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central daily, threats are handled at any hour, and pricing is per user per month after an assessment.

How cybersecurity is delivered for Milwaukee organizations
Security work is remote by nature, and NetSys runs all of it from Brooklyn without sending engineers on site. The ThreatDown agent on each computer reports to a managed detection and response service that analyzes alerts 24/7 and can isolate an infected laptop from the network wherever that laptop happens to be. Our engineers manage identity in Entra ID, mail filtering in Barracuda, firewall policy in the Meraki or Fortinet console and vulnerability scans in Rapid7 InsightVM. When an incident happens, containment, investigation and recovery start remotely: we cut off compromised accounts, pull the logs, block the attacker's infrastructure and restore from clean backups. If a firewall has to be replaced, it ships configured, and your staff or cabling contractor connects it while we verify the rules. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time (3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central), seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
What our cybersecurity services include
The program has layers, because no single product stops every attack. Endpoints run ThreatDown EDR with managed response alongside Microsoft Defender for Business. Identity is locked down with multifactor sign-in on every account, Conditional Access rules that block sign-ins from unmanaged devices or unexpected countries, and removal of standing admin rights. Mail passes through Barracuda Email Protection, with SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured to reduce spoofing of your domain. Staff take KnowBe4 training and simulated phishing, shared credentials live in Keeper, and Rapid7 InsightVM scans for missing patches and exposed services on a schedule. Backups are immutable, so ransomware cannot encrypt or delete them, and restores are tested. A good first step is the free external penetration test, which examines your internet-facing systems remotely within a scope we agree in writing and shows what an outsider can see.
Wisconsin incidents that show how attacks start
The attacks that hit Wisconsin organizations began in ordinary places. In October 2020 the Republican Party of Wisconsin said criminals had taken $2.3 million by altering invoices from four vendors after what its chairman described as a phishing attempt; that is business email compromise, and it works the same way against a manufacturer or a law firm. Johnson Controls, whose North American headquarters campus is in Glendale, disclosed that its September 2023 ransomware incident involved data exfiltration and cost about $27 million to address. Ascension's May 2024 attack took electronic records offline at its Wisconsin hospitals and clinics for weeks. Each maps to controls we deploy: payment changes confirmed by phone against a known number, multifactor sign-in that resists phishing, segmentation that slows an intruder and backups an attacker cannot reach.
Security and compliance requirements in Wisconsin
Wisconsin's breach statute, § 134.98, covers a name combined with a Social Security number, driver's license or state ID number, financial account number with its access code, DNA profile or unique biometric data, and requires notice within a reasonable time, at most 45 days after the business learns of the acquisition. The Insurance Data Security Law, in effect since November 1, 2021, adds duties for insurance licensees: a risk-based information security program for those not exempted, oversight of third-party service providers, investigation records kept for five years and notice to the Commissioner within three business days of determining that a qualifying cybersecurity event occurred. Licensees domiciled in Wisconsin also certify compliance to OCI by March 1 each year. Medical practices follow the HIPAA Security Rule, and non-bank financial firms follow the FTC Safeguards Rule. This is general information, not legal advice.
Onboarding, the first 30 days and what drives cost
Security onboarding starts with what is exposed. In the first week we run the external penetration test and a Rapid7 scan, review Microsoft 365 sign-in logs and admin roles, and inventory every device that needs an agent. The second week brings written findings, ranked by how likely each is to be used against you. Deployment follows: ThreatDown on every endpoint, multifactor sign-in and Conditional Access, Barracuda in front of mail, Keeper for shared passwords and the first KnowBe4 campaign. By day 30 the backups are immutable and a restore has been tested. Cost is per user per month, and it moves mostly with the number of devices and servers, cloud workloads beyond Microsoft 365, compliance reporting such as insurer questionnaires or an OCI certification, and whether security is bought alone or inside a managed IT agreement.
Cybersecurity in Milwaukee: what NetSys delivers
Detection and response
- ThreatDown managed detection and response with EDR agents on every workstation, laptop and server, monitored 24/7
- Microsoft Defender for Business and Rapid7 InsightIDR telemetry from identities, email and endpoints, with a person acting on alerts
Identity and email
- Entra ID Conditional Access and multifactor authentication across Microsoft 365, with legacy authentication switched off
- Privileged access and privileged identity management so admin rights are granted just in time and removed afterwards
Exposure and recovery
- Rapid7 InsightVM vulnerability scanning on a schedule, with findings fixed rather than filed
- Cisco Meraki or Fortinet firewall management, segmentation and DNS filtering on office and remote devices
Law office: layered security on Microsoft 365 with cloud-to-cloud backup
A 25-attorney firm needed client confidences protected better than a closet server could manage. Alongside a Microsoft 365 migration, NetSys layered anti-phishing and email threat protection, DNS filtering, multifactor authentication on every account and endpoint protection across attorney devices in the office and remote, and established independent cloud-to-cloud backup of the entire tenant because the recycle bin is not a backup strategy for privileged material. The firm reported 82% fewer IT support incidents per month within two quarters.

What cybersecurity costs in Milwaukee
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in Milwaukee: FAQs
How much do cybersecurity services cost in Milwaukee?
There is no list price; the fee is per user per month and set after an assessment. An organization running mostly cloud systems and laptops needs less engineering time than one with on-premises servers, several sites, a machine network or a compliance program such as HIPAA, NIST SP 800-171 or the Wisconsin insurance law. Security can be bought on its own or inside managed IT, where the same engineers patch, monitor and respond. Incident response outside an agreement, and penetration testing beyond the free external test, is quoted per engagement after scoping.
How does cybersecurity work for Milwaukee organizations?
It is remote and continuous. ThreatDown's managed detection and response service monitors every enrolled device 24/7 and isolates threats as they appear, while NetSys engineers handle configuration, investigation and recovery from Brooklyn. Staff report a suspicious email or pop-up to the help desk, which is staffed from 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central every day, and an active incident reaches your dedicated engineer at any hour. NetSys does not send engineers on site in Milwaukee; equipment changes are shipped preconfigured and installed by your staff or contractor under our guidance.
Which cybersecurity requirements apply to businesses in Milwaukee?
Every Wisconsin business holding personal information is subject to the breach notification statute, Wis. Stat. § 134.98. Beyond that it depends on the sector: insurance licensees answer to 2021 Wisconsin Act 73, medical and dental practices to the HIPAA Security Rule, mortgage brokers, tax preparers and other non-bank financial firms to the FTC Safeguards Rule, defense suppliers to DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171, and merchants taking cards to PCI DSS through their processor. Cyber insurance applications add their own control questions, usually about multifactor sign-in, backups and endpoint detection.
What happens if our Milwaukee business is hit by ransomware?
Call your dedicated engineer; that call skips the queue at any hour. We isolate affected machines through ThreatDown, disable compromised accounts, preserve logs for your insurer and counsel, and find the entry point before restoring anything, so the attacker is not invited back. Restores come from immutable Datto or Veeam copies in the order your recovery plan sets. NetSys has worked more than 30 ransomware cases in three years with every client fully recovered, and those with a disaster recovery plan were running again within 24 hours. Whether to pay a ransom is a decision for you, your insurer and counsel.
Do you offer managed security services, or only cybersecurity consulting?
Both. Managed security means NetSys runs the tools and responds every day, either on its own or inside a managed IT agreement. Consulting covers point-in-time work: a security assessment, an incident response plan, a policy set for an insurance renewal, or a gap analysis against NIST SP 800-171 or the Wisconsin insurance law. A company with its own IT staff can keep daily administration and hand us monitoring, response and patch verification as co-managed security, with the split of duties written into the agreement.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
