Backup and Disaster Recovery in Orlando, FL
For Orlando businesses that remember Ian's floodwater and Milton's outages and want proof, not a promise, that their data and systems will come back. NetSys runs Datto and Veeam backups with copies held outside Florida, restores them on a schedule and writes a recovery plan built around hurricane season and ransomware.
The short answer
NetSys provides backup and disaster recovery for Orlando organizations: Datto SIRIS or Veeam backups of servers and workstations, separate Microsoft 365 backup, immutable copies stored outside Florida, scheduled test restores and a written recovery plan with a target time for every critical system. Everything is managed remotely from Brooklyn. We do not send engineers to Orlando sites, so recovery is designed to run from the cloud and from staff laptops. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7. NetSys has handled more than 30 ransomware incidents in three years and recovered every one, and clients with a recovery plan in place were back within 24 hours.

How backup and disaster recovery is delivered in Orlando
Backups are only as good as the last restore, so the service is built around proving them. Every backup job reports to our monitoring, and a failed or skipped job becomes a ticket the same day rather than a surprise in a crisis. A Datto SIRIS appliance can run a protected server as a virtual machine within minutes, either on the appliance itself or in the Datto cloud, and Veeam covers environments that need it. We restore files, mailboxes and whole servers on a schedule and record how long each restore took. The recovery plan lives in IT Glue with contact lists, priorities and step-by-step procedures, and we run the drills with your team over Teams. None of it depends on a NetSys engineer being on site in Orlando. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
What Ian and Milton did to Orlando offices
Hurricane Ian crossed Central Florida slowly in late September 2022. Orlando International Airport recorded 22.42 inches of rain that month, more than a foot of it in 24 hours, and the Little Wekiva River near Altamonte Springs reached historic flood levels. FEMA's major disaster declaration, DR-4673, covered Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Polk counties. Two years later Hurricane Milton crossed the state. On October 10, 2024, OUC reported 83,869 of its 282,106 customers affected, and Duke Energy reported 82,309 customers without power in Orange County alone; OUC had 98% restored by October 12. For many businesses the damage that mattered was not to the building but to access: no power, no circuit and roads or homes that kept staff away. Recovery planning here assumes the office can be unreachable for days even when it is undamaged.
Recovery targets for each system
A plan starts with two numbers for every system: how much data you can afford to lose and how long you can be without it. Email and files in Microsoft 365 usually need little more than a separate backup and a tested restore, because the service itself runs outside Florida. A line-of-business database on a local server is different, so it gets hourly snapshots and a Datto virtualization target that can run it within an hour. Phones move to Teams or a hosted system with call forwarding to cell phones. Each target has a cost, and tighter targets cost more, so we write them down with the owner and agree on them before anything is bought. The plan then lists the order of recovery, who approves each step and how staff are told where to work.
Recovering from ransomware without paying
Ransomware recovery is a sequence, and skipping steps reinfects the network. First the affected devices are isolated and attacker access is cut off: compromised accounts are disabled, sessions revoked and administrator passwords rotated from a clean machine. Next we preserve evidence for your insurer and counsel, because the Florida notification clock may be running. Then we identify the last clean restore point. Immutable backups, stored under credentials the attacker never had, are what make that possible. Systems come back in the agreed priority order, each scanned before users return, and identity is rebuilt where needed. Afterward we close the entry point, usually a phished password or an unpatched remote access service, and write up what happened. Clients who already had a recovery plan were working again within 24 hours.
A pre-season test every spring
Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, so each April or May we run a full exercise with Orlando clients before the first storm forms. We restore a server or a sample of critical data and time it against the plan, confirm the Microsoft 365 backup can return a mailbox and a SharePoint site, and check that each laptop is patched, encrypted and able to work away from the office. We call through the contact list, confirm who can approve emergency spending and update phone forwarding rules. Anything that fails becomes a ticket with a deadline. After a storm affects your area, we review what happened and adjust the plan while it is fresh.
Disaster Recovery in Orlando: what NetSys delivers
Protection for every copy
- Server, virtual machine and cloud workload backups with immutable copies off site
- Independent backup of the Microsoft 365 tenant, because the recycle bin is not a backup
Tested recovery
- Recovery objectives per system, agreed before an outage forces the decision
- Scheduled restores with the measured time sent to you in writing
Continuity when the office is down
- Staff working from home on current data while the office has no power or access
- Phones redirected and clients reached through paths that do not depend on the office network
Large international food importer: the whole platform rebuilt in Azure after a weather outage
An extreme weather event knocked out power and connectivity to a food importer's building and cut a 120-person, three-warehouse business off from suppliers and clients for days. NetSys assessed every workload with recovery objectives per system, moved the SQL environment to Azure SQL Managed Instance and the file shares to Azure Files, published applications through Azure Virtual Desktop, connected the warehouses by VPN and layered immutable backups and a tested disaster-recovery runbook on top. The migration took ten weeks with a weekend cut-over.

What backup and disaster recovery costs in Orlando
Backup and disaster recovery is priced per protected server and per Microsoft 365 user, with the appliance either included on the agreement or purchased outright. What moves the number: the volume of data, the recovery time you need, whether recovery has to run in the cloud while the office is unavailable, and how often restores are tested and reported. We quote from an inventory of what has to come back and in what order, and terms run month to month.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: any business whose work stops when a server or the Microsoft 365 tenant is unavailable, and any business a regulator, insurer or customer has asked about recovery time.

Disaster Recovery in Orlando: FAQs
How does backup and disaster recovery work for Orlando organizations?
It is run remotely from Brooklyn, outside the path of any Florida storm. We monitor every backup job, restore data on a schedule and keep the recovery plan current in IT Glue. There are no NetSys engineers in Florida to send, so the plan never waits for anyone to reach your building: protected servers can run as virtual machines in the Datto cloud, files and email are restored to staff wherever they are, and a replacement laptop ships ready through Autopilot. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time.
How do we recover an Orlando business after ransomware or an outage?
Follow the written plan, in order. For an outage, staff switch to working from laptops at home while we confirm cloud services are up, forward phones and, if a local server matters, start its copy in the Datto cloud. For ransomware, we isolate infected devices, cut the attacker off, preserve evidence, find the last clean backup and restore systems by priority, scanning each before users return. Either way, your dedicated engineer leads it and you get updates on a set schedule. Having that plan in place before the event is what makes recovery within 24 hours realistic.
How far away should our backup copy be?
Far enough that the same storm, flood or power failure cannot reach both copies. For an Orlando business that means at least one copy outside Florida and away from the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, in addition to any local appliance used for fast restores. Datto and Veeam cloud copies meet that test. The off-site copy should also be immutable, so it cannot be deleted or encrypted even by someone holding an administrator password. A backup drive kept at the owner's house in Winter Park is better than nothing, but it fails both tests.
What does backup and disaster recovery cost in Orlando?
It depends on how much data you protect and how fast you need it back, so we price it after an assessment instead of publishing a number. Backup and recovery is part of the per-user managed agreement, and the main drivers are the number of servers, the amount of data, the recovery time each system needs and whether you want a local Datto appliance for faster restores. Microsoft 365 backup is a per-user line item. A one-time recovery plan or a migration away from local servers is quoted as a project.
Should an Orlando office keep a server at all?
Often not. A server in an Orlando office is exposed to power loss, lightning surges and an air conditioning failure in August, and it needs patching, backup hardware and eventually replacement. Many offices can move files to SharePoint and OneDrive and identity to Entra ID, leaving nothing in the closet but network equipment. Some workloads still belong on a local machine, such as a database that a vendor will not host or software tied to specialized equipment. Those get a Datto appliance and a cloud copy, so the server can be running elsewhere within the hour if the office goes dark.
