How cybersecurity is delivered in Orlando
Security work is the easiest part of IT to run from a distance, because the tools live on the devices and in the cloud. ThreatDown agents on every laptop and server send detections to analysts around the clock, and a suspicious machine can be isolated from the network in seconds, whether it sits in a Lake Mary office or on a kitchen table in Kissimmee. Defender for Business and Conditional Access policies are managed centrally, Barracuda screens mail before it reaches Microsoft 365, and every alert becomes a ticket with a named owner. During an incident, containment, investigation and restore all happen remotely. Our engineers do not travel to Orlando sites, and in most incidents they would not need to: the deciding steps are revoking sessions, isolating devices and restoring clean data. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
What recent Central Florida incidents show
In March 2024, St. Cloud, an Osceola County city inside the Orlando metro, disclosed a ransomware attack that disrupted city services and left some payments temporarily cash-only. Five years earlier, Lake City paid roughly $460,000 and Riviera Beach about $600,000 to attackers after losing their systems. Florida's response came in 2022: section 282.3186 now bars state agencies, counties and municipalities from paying or otherwise complying with a ransom demand. That ban does not cover private businesses, but its logic applies to them. Recovery has to work without the attacker's cooperation, which means immutable backups, an attacker who cannot reach those backups with stolen credentials, and a team that has practiced the restore. The time to find out whether a restore works is before an attacker forces the test.
The controls we put in place first
The first month follows the order in which attacks actually succeed. Identity comes first: multifactor sign-in for every account, phishing-resistant methods for administrators, Conditional Access rules that block legacy sign-in protocols and risky locations, and separate admin accounts that are never used for email. Email is next: Barracuda impersonation and link protection, plus SPF, DKIM and DMARC records that make spoofing your domain harder. Then endpoints: ThreatDown MDR and Defender on every device, local admin rights removed and patches deployed through NinjaOne on a weekly cycle. Shared passwords move into Keeper so a departing employee takes nothing with them. Backups are made immutable and kept under separate credentials. Each control is recorded with the date it went live, which becomes the evidence trail for insurers and auditors.
The industry rules Orlando security programs answer to
Orlando's largest sectors each bring a rulebook. Practices around Lake Nona Medical City, home to Nemours Children's Hospital, the Orlando VA Medical Center and UCF Lake Nona Hospital, answer to the HIPAA Security Rule, which requires a documented risk analysis and safeguards for electronic patient data; the HHS update proposed in January 2025 is still a proposal. Contractors serving the military simulation commands in the UCF Research Park work under DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2. CMMC Phase 2 certification was suspended on July 13, 2026, but self-assessments and a current SPRS score are still required. Hotels, restaurants and attractions vendors that take cards follow PCI DSS v4.0.1, whose future-dated requirements became mandatory on March 31, 2025.
Testing, training and proof you can show
Controls that nobody tests drift. Rapid7 InsightVM scans your devices and internet-facing systems on a schedule and ranks what it finds, and each finding is closed or accepted in writing. The free external penetration test, a remote test of your internet-facing systems within an agreed scope, shows what an outsider can reach today. KnowBe4 sends simulated phishing to every employee, and anyone who clicks gets a short training module rather than a reprimand. Each quarter you receive a report covering threats blocked, patch compliance, phishing results and open risks, written for an owner rather than an analyst. NetSys has handled more than 30 ransomware incidents in the last three years, and every one was fully recovered.
Cybersecurity in Orlando: what NetSys delivers
Watch and respond
- ThreatDown MDR and EDR on every device, with a 24/7 team that isolates and investigates rather than emails
- Rapid7 InsightIDR or Microsoft Sentinel collecting identity, email, endpoint and firewall logs so an intrusion is visible in one place
Harden the tenant and the people
- Microsoft Defender for Business, Entra ID Conditional Access and phishing-resistant sign-in for finance staff
- Legacy authentication off, dormant accounts closed, forwarding rules and consent grants reviewed monthly
Measure and recover
- Rapid7 InsightVM scans of the internal and external footprint, with a monthly fix list
- Managed firewall with intrusion prevention, segmentation and vendor access that is logged and switched off when the work ends
Firewall, antivirus and maintenance for a five-person office
A five-person office needed the basics done properly rather than an enterprise stack. NetSys replaced the internet provider's router with a business-grade firewall configured with sensible rules, secure remote access and logging, deployed managed antivirus on every machine with updates and alerts handled centrally, and put patching, backup checks and health reviews on a schedule. The agreement covers what the office needs and nothing it does not, month to month. No outcome figures were measured for publication.

What cybersecurity costs in Orlando
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in Orlando: FAQs
How does cybersecurity work for Orlando organizations?
Remotely, with people watching at all hours. ThreatDown analysts monitor endpoint detections 24/7, and our engineers can isolate a device, revoke a user's sessions or block a sender from Brooklyn within minutes. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time. Ransomware or a suspected account compromise goes straight to your dedicated engineer. No NetSys engineer travels to Orlando for incident work, so any device that has to be rebuilt is reimaged remotely or replaced with a laptop that ships ready through Autopilot. Florida work is overseen by Joe Laboy, a NetSys systems engineer.
What does Florida law require after a data breach?
Under section 501.171, a covered business must notify affected individuals no later than 30 days after determining a breach or having reason to believe one occurred, unless law enforcement requests a delay in writing. A breach affecting 500 or more Floridians also requires notice to the Department of Legal Affairs within 30 days, and notice to more than 1,000 people at once triggers notice to the consumer reporting agencies. Failing to notify can bring civil penalties of up to $500,000 per breach. The statute creates no private cause of action. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you offer a free penetration test in Orlando?
Yes. The free offer is an external penetration test: a remote test of the systems your business exposes to the internet, such as the firewall, VPN, email and any hosted portals, within a scope we agree in writing first. It shows what an outside attacker could find and try today, with each finding ranked and explained. It is not an internal network test or a review of your policies, and it does not touch systems outside the agreed scope. If you want the full picture afterward, that becomes a quoted assessment.
What does cybersecurity cost for an Orlando business?
We do not publish a figure, because the price follows an assessment of your users, devices and obligations. Security services are charged per user per month, and the main drivers are the number of endpoints and servers, the compliance framework you must satisfy, such as HIPAA, NIST SP 800-171 or PCI DSS, and whether you need evidence prepared for audits or insurer questionnaires. The ThreatDown, Defender, Barracuda, KnowBe4 and Keeper licensing is included in the fee. Projects such as a policy rewrite or a remediation sprint are quoted after scoping.
We already have antivirus. What does managed detection and response add?
Antivirus blocks files it recognizes. Managed detection and response watches behavior, such as a new process encrypting files, a script pulling credentials from memory or an account signing in from two countries in an hour, and a human analyst decides what it means. ThreatDown MDR can isolate a laptop from the network before ransomware spreads to the file share, and our engineers then work out how the attacker got in and close that path. Most modern attacks use legitimate tools and stolen passwords, which plain antivirus is not built to notice.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
