IT Support in Portland
NetSys provides IT support to businesses in Portland: a help desk staffed by engineers, 24/7 monitoring behind it, patching and device management that happen without anyone remembering, and on-site work when hands are needed. Since 1998, month to month. Portland is served from Brooklyn, three hours behind us on Pacific time. Monitoring, help desk and remediation run remotely around the clock from Brooklyn, with coverage hours stated in Pacific time in the proposal. On-site commitments are arranged in advance and sized to the engagement. Most clients run between 10 and 75 seats, and every agreement is month to month.
The short answer
NetSys provides IT support to businesses in Portland: a help desk staffed by engineers, remote and on-site support, 24/7 monitoring, patching, device management through Intune, endpoint protection and backup checks, for a monthly fee per user. Delivery is remote-first from Brooklyn, with coverage hours stated in Pacific time, and on-site commitments are arranged in advance and sized to the engagement, up to a dedicated engineer with a drive time generally under an hour where regular presence is part of the scope. Most clients run between 10 and 75 seats, and every agreement is month to month.
How IT support is delivered in Portland
Portland is served from Brooklyn, three hours behind us on Pacific time. Monitoring, help desk and remediation run remotely around the clock from Brooklyn, with coverage hours stated in Pacific time in the proposal. On-site commitments outside the tri-state area are arranged in advance and sized to the engagement: a mostly remote engagement needs no dedicated on-site engineer, while an engagement that calls for regular presence, such as a standing on-site day or two each week, gets a dedicated engineer whose drive time is generally under an hour, depending on where that engineer and your office are. Hardware ships pre-configured, so most projects need no visit at all. The buildings decide a lot of the design. Downtown and Hillsboro have carrier choice, but Pearl District conversions and Lake Oswego offices often run on one Comcast circuit, and semiconductor suppliers carry customer audit requirements. The carriers we see most in Portland are Comcast Business, Ziply Fiber and Lumen, and the failover design starts with which of them actually reach your building.
Who IT support in Portland is built for
Most of our Portland work sits in Downtown Portland, the Pearl District, Beaverton, Hillsboro and Lake Oswego: semiconductor suppliers and manufacturers on Epicor, professional and creative firms on HubSpot, medical practices on Epic, law firms on Clio, nonprofits on Bloomerang, and contractors on Procore. Each carries its own compliance load, which the section below covers, and each has a line-of-business vendor we coordinate with rather than work around. Companies with an internal IT person fit too; in that case we supply the monitoring, the security stack and the after-hours coverage behind them, and they keep their projects.
What tends to go wrong in Portland
Two things shape the continuity design here. First, the weather and the grid: ice storms, windstorm power outages and the Cascadia earthquake case shape the design: backups live out of region and the recovery plan assumes the building is unreachable. Second, the attacks that actually land locally are ordinary ones, and the public record shows how they go: the June 2023 MOVEit breach at the Oregon DMV, which exposed the data of 3.5 million Oregonians through a single file-transfer vulnerability. The controls in the next section are the ones that would have changed those stories.
IT Support in Portland: what NetSys delivers
The help desk
- Phone, email and Teams support from engineers, with an immediate response from your dedicated engineer for anything severe and everything else worked by severity
- Remote resolution first through NinjaOne, with screen-sharing the user approves, and on-site when hands are needed
- Microsoft 365 support: Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and the line-of-business apps that sit on them
- New-hire setup and departure offboarding through a checklist: accounts, devices, access, hardware
Behind the desk
- 24/7 monitoring of every workstation, server and firewall, so many problems are fixed before anyone calls
- Patching and routine maintenance on the schedule you choose, weekly for some clients and quarterly for others, with urgent fixes applied as needed
- Intune and Windows Autopilot device management, so laptops configure themselves and lost devices can be wiped
- Managed antivirus and ThreatDown EDR on every device as part of the support agreement, not an add-on
The things that get forgotten
- Printer, scanner and conference-room support, including the vendors behind them
- Backup checks with restores actually run, so the recovery time is known rather than guessed
- Keeper password management and multifactor authentication rolled out to every user
- A monthly report of what was fixed, what was patched and what needs a decision
A 60-person nonprofit in Lake Oswego
The specific engagements behind this profile are under NDA, so it is written as a generalization rather than a named client. Our published, client-approved outcomes are in case studies.
A nonprofit in Lake Oswego with 60 staff, half of them remote, supported by a break-fix technician who bills by the hour. The break-fix provider bills by the hour and appears only after something is already down. Tickets go into an inbox nobody watches, Bloomerang updates land on whoever clicks first, a laptop went missing last month and nobody can say what was on it.
- An onboarding and offboarding checklist agreed with HR, covering accounts, devices, access and hardware return
- A monthly report established: tickets by type, patches applied, backup results and the decisions waiting on leadership
- Every device, account and vendor documented in IT Glue in the first two weeks, with the spreadsheet of passwords retired into Keeper
- Help desk opened with a phone number, an email address and a Teams channel, with a dedicated engineer who responds immediately to anything severe and works the rest by severity
- Intune enrollment for every laptop and phone, with a compliance policy so a lost or unpatched device cannot reach email, and remote wipe tested
- Microsoft 365 hygiene pass: dormant accounts closed, shared mailboxes sorted, multifactor authentication enforced through Entra ID Conditional Access
Staff call a help desk that fixes things, new hires start with a working laptop, and the owner stops being the last line of support. The monitoring is watched by a person and the backups restore on schedule. The agreement runs month to month.
Firewall, antivirus and maintenance for a five-person office
Not every engagement is a transformation. A five-person office ran on the router the internet provider supplied, whatever antivirus came with the laptops and updates that happened when someone remembered. NetSys replaced the router with a business-grade firewall configured with sensible rules, secure remote access and logging, deployed managed antivirus on every machine with updates and alerts handled centrally, and put patching, backup checks and health reviews on a schedule. The agreement covers what a five-person office needs and nothing it does not, month to month. No outcome figures were measured for publication.
Compliance in Portland: the OCPA and what sits on top of it
If you hold personal information on a resident of Oregon, the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act (ORS 646A.570 et seq.) in force since July 1, 2024, requires larger data controllers to keep reasonable security and honor consumer rights, while ORS 646A.604 requires every business to notify affected residents within 45 days of discovering a breach, with the Attorney General told when more than 250 residents are affected. Healthcare adds HIPAA, manufacturers and semiconductor suppliers face customer audits, and professional firms hold client data their engagement letters promise to protect. The support agreement keeps the day-to-day evidence current: who has access, what was patched, whether the backups restored and how a departure was closed out. Most firms we take over have none of it documented, which is the part that matters if you ever have to demonstrate compliance, so the documentation is built during onboarding rather than sold as a separate project.
What IT support costs in Portland
IT support is priced per user per month, and the number moves with how much on-site time you need, whether after-hours coverage goes beyond monitoring, how many servers and specialized applications are in scope, and whether security tooling is already licensed or comes from us. Per-device pricing suits crews that share hardware. We quote from a short assessment, and the agreement runs month to month. Our managed IT pricing page sets out what sits inside the fee.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: 5 to 75 employees, mostly on Microsoft 365, with staff who need someone to call and nobody on payroll whose job is IT, or one person who needs a bench behind them.
Not a fit: businesses that want a technician on the payroll full time, or offices that need an engineer physically present every day. Support is remote-first with on-site work arranged in advance, and that suits most businesses under 75 people.

IT Support in Portland: FAQs
Do you support Macs as well as Windows?
Yes. Macs are managed through Intune or Jamf, protected with ThreatDown EDR, and supported by the same help desk. Mixed offices are normal.
How fast will someone respond?
Immediately, when the problem is severe: ransomware, systems down, no internet or email that has stopped working goes straight to your dedicated engineer. Everything else is worked by severity, so a person who cannot work is treated differently from a request to add a printer. Monitoring means many problems are worked before anyone calls.
How much does IT support cost in Portland?
It is quoted per user per month from a short assessment, and the drivers are on-site time, after-hours coverage, server count and specialized applications rather than headcount alone. Our managed IT pricing page explains what is inside the fee and what is billed separately, so quotes can be compared on the same basis.
Do you have an office in Portland?
Our office is in Brooklyn, NY. Portland is served from Brooklyn, three hours behind us on Pacific time. Outside the tri-state area the on-site arrangement is agreed before the engagement starts and sized to what it needs: none for a mostly remote account, and a dedicated engineer, generally within an hour's drive, where regular presence such as a standing on-site day or two each week is part of the scope. The proposal states that arrangement, coverage hours in Pacific time and any travel in writing, and the agreement runs month to month.
How fast does Oregon require breach notification?
ORS 646A.604 gives a business 45 days from discovery to notify affected residents, and more than 250 affected residents means the Attorney General must be told. The Oregon Consumer Privacy Act's consumer-rights duties apply above data thresholds most small businesses do not reach.
