How cybersecurity is delivered for Morris County organizations
Detection runs remotely. ThreatDown agents on every laptop and server report to a security operations team that watches continuously and can isolate a machine the moment it starts encrypting files. Rapid7 scans your internet-facing addresses and internal network on a schedule, and the findings come to you as a ranked fix list. On-site work is for jobs that need a person in the room: installing a Fortinet or Cisco Meraki firewall, splitting a flat network into segments for staff, guests, cameras and production equipment, collecting a compromised laptop for analysis, or running a tabletop exercise with your managers. Every Morris County town is inside our on-site area; the drive from Brooklyn is roughly 45 minutes to Madison and 75 minutes or more to Mount Olive outside rush hour. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
What the attack on a Morris County accounting firm shows
A September 2022 federal indictment unsealed in New Jersey charged three Iranian nationals with intrusions at organizations across the country, including an accounting firm based in Morris County. Prosecutors said the group exploited known vulnerabilities, encrypted the firm's systems in early 2022, wrote that it had locked more than 20 of them, demanded $50,000 in cryptocurrency and threatened to sell the data. The same group had earlier broken into a Union County township's network. Nothing about that firm was unusual, which is the point. The defenses that matter are unglamorous: patch internet-facing firewalls, VPNs and mail servers quickly, scan for whatever was missed, require multifactor sign-in on every remote access path, and keep backups that an attacker holding a stolen admin account cannot delete.
Security questionnaires from pharma, banks and defense primes
Morris County's economy runs on large buyers: Novartis in East Hanover, Bayer's U.S. headquarters and Barclays' campus in Whippany, and Picatinny Arsenal near Dover. Their vendor risk teams send suppliers questionnaires that ask, in effect, whether you would notice an intrusion and how fast you would recover from it. Typical questions cover multifactor authentication, endpoint detection, encryption, patch timelines, backup testing, incident response and staff training. Defense suppliers also answer to DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2. CMMC Phase 2 third-party certification was suspended on July 13, 2026 while a reform task force reviews the program, but Level 1 and Level 2 self-assessments and a current SPRS score and affirmation remain in force. We answer questionnaires with exported evidence: Conditional Access reports, ThreatDown coverage, Rapid7 results and dated restore tests.
The controls we put in first, and in what order
Order matters, because the first weeks close the paths attackers use most. Week one brings multifactor authentication for every account, Entra ID Conditional Access rules that block sign-ins from unmanaged devices and unexpected countries, and legacy email protocols switched off. Week two puts ThreatDown and Defender on every endpoint and Barracuda in front of Microsoft 365 to catch impersonation and payment-change emails. Week three is a Rapid7 scan of everything internet-facing, with urgent fixes made that week, and Keeper rolled out so shared passwords leave spreadsheets. Week four adds a KnowBe4 baseline phishing test, a check that backups are immutable, and a written incident response plan with names and phone numbers. Later work, such as network segmentation or data loss prevention, follows the scan results.
Reporting an incident in New Jersey
When personal information is breached, the state statute puts the State Police first: a business that must notify residents files a report with the Division of State Police ahead of any customer notice, and the notices go out in the most expedient time possible. The NJCCIC, the state's cybersecurity center created in 2015 and housed in the State Police intelligence center, also accepts incident reports from businesses and publishes alerts worth subscribing to. Federal rules may add their own clocks. The FTC expects notice within 30 days for Safeguards Rule events involving 500 or more consumers, and SEC-registered advisers must notify affected customers within 30 days under amended Regulation S-P. Our incident plan lists which of these apply to you and who makes each call. This is general information, not legal advice.
Cybersecurity in Morris County: what NetSys delivers
Detection and response
- ThreatDown managed detection and response with EDR agents on every workstation, laptop and server, monitored 24/7
- Microsoft Defender for Business and Rapid7 InsightIDR telemetry from identities, email and endpoints, with a person acting on alerts
Identity and email
- Entra ID Conditional Access and multifactor authentication across Microsoft 365, with legacy authentication switched off
- Privileged access and privileged identity management so admin rights are granted just in time and removed afterwards
Exposure and recovery
- Rapid7 InsightVM vulnerability scanning on a schedule, with findings fixed rather than filed
- Cisco Meraki or Fortinet firewall management, segmentation and DNS filtering on office and remote devices
Firewall, antivirus and maintenance for a five-person office
A five-person office needed the basics done properly rather than an enterprise stack. NetSys replaced the internet provider's router with a business-grade firewall configured with sensible rules, secure remote access and logging, deployed managed antivirus on every machine with updates and alerts handled centrally, and put patching, backup checks and health reviews on a schedule. The agreement covers what the office needs and nothing it does not, month to month. No outcome figures were measured for publication.

What cybersecurity costs in Morris County
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in Morris County: FAQs
Do you provide on-site cybersecurity in Morris County?
Yes. Our engineers come on site across Morris County for firewall installation, network segmentation, Wi-Fi security, incident response and in-person security training for staff. During an incident, a person on site can image an infected machine, pull it off the network and check the closet for anything plugged in that should not be there. Monitoring, scanning and most response work happen remotely from the moment ThreatDown raises an alert, so on-site time goes to the tasks that truly need hands.
How much do cybersecurity services cost in Morris County, NJ?
Security is priced per user per month after an assessment, and we do not publish a figure. The main inputs are the number of users and devices, the servers and internet-facing systems to scan, the mailboxes behind Barracuda, whether you need evidence for a regulator, insurer or customer questionnaire, and whether security sits inside a managed IT plan or alongside another provider. One-off projects such as a firewall replacement or network segmentation are quoted after scoping. There is no long-term contract.
What does the free external penetration test cover?
It is a remote test of your internet-facing systems within a scope we agree in writing before it starts: your public IP addresses, firewall and VPN portals, and mail and web services. Our engineers look for exposed services, missing patches, weak configurations and default credentials, then walk your team through the findings in plain language with a ranked fix list. It is the one free offer NetSys makes, it does not touch your internal network, and nothing obliges you to hire us afterward.
Can you provide managed security services if we keep our current IT provider?
Yes. Some Morris County companies like their IT provider for daily support but want a separate team watching for attacks. We deploy ThreatDown MDR, Rapid7 scanning, Barracuda filtering and KnowBe4 training under a security-only agreement, agree in writing what your provider still owns, and share alerts with them through an agreed channel. Separating the roles also gives you an independent check on patching and backups, because when we find a gap, you and your provider see the same report.
Which cybersecurity requirements apply to businesses in Morris County, NJ?
Every business holding New Jersey residents' personal information must follow the state breach statute, N.J.S.A. 56:8-163. The New Jersey Data Privacy Act, effective January 15, 2025, adds a duty of reasonable security for controllers over its thresholds, and exempts financial institutions covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. On top of that come industry rules: HIPAA for medical groups, the FTC Safeguards Rule for tax preparers and lenders, SEC Regulation S-P for advisers and DFARS 252.204-7012 for defense suppliers. We map which apply and collect the evidence each expects.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
