Cybersecurity Services in Staten Island, NY
For Staten Island practices, agencies, law offices, contractors and warehouses that hold other people's data and cannot afford a week offline. NetSys puts ThreatDown detection and response on every device, locks down sign-ins and email, tests backups by restoring them, and writes the safeguards New York's SHIELD Act expects into a plan you can show an insurer.
The short answer
NetSys provides cybersecurity services to Staten Island organizations: ThreatDown managed detection and response watched 24/7, Microsoft Defender for Business, multifactor authentication with Entra ID Conditional Access, Barracuda email protection, KnowBe4 phishing training, Rapid7 vulnerability scanning and immutable backups. Staten Island is within our on-site area, so engineers from our Park Slope office install firewalls and respond in person when an incident needs it, while monitoring and most containment run remotely. The one free offer is a remote external penetration test within an agreed scope; everything else is priced after an assessment.

How cybersecurity work is delivered on Staten Island
Security tools watch your devices and accounts around the clock, and most response happens remotely: when ThreatDown flags a suspicious process on a reception PC at 3 a.m., analysts isolate that machine from the network before anyone arrives at work. Engineers come on site for the parts that need hands: installing and configuring a Meraki or Fortinet firewall, separating the guest Wi-Fi and the cameras from the billing system, collecting a compromised laptop, or rebuilding machines after an incident. The drive from Park Slope to most island offices runs 30 to 45 minutes. In a serious incident, such as ransomware or a hijacked mailbox, you call your dedicated engineer directly. Over the past three years NetSys has worked more than 30 ransomware cases and recovered every one, and clients with a disaster recovery plan in place were back within 24 hours. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
What the 2023 hospital attack showed Staten Island offices
One of the most widely reported cyber incidents on the island hit Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton. The hospital found unauthorized access to its network on May 6, 2023, and its services were disrupted for several weeks. According to SecurityWeek's January 2025 report, investigators later determined that exposed files held personal information, and the hospital told HHS that 674,033 people were affected. The electronic health record was reported as not compromised; the exposure came from files and systems around it. For a small office the lessons are practical. Know where sensitive files sit outside the main application, limit who can reach them, keep logs long enough to answer what was taken, and keep backups that an intruder with administrator rights cannot delete. Those are the controls we put in first.
Wire fraud and email takeover at closings, claims and invoices
Staten Island's mix of title agencies, real estate brokers, insurance agencies, law offices near the St. George courthouses and contractors means a lot of money moves on instructions sent by email. Attackers who phish one mailbox read it quietly, wait for a closing, a settlement or a large supplier invoice, then send new payment details from the real account or a lookalike domain. We break that chain at several points: Barracuda filtering and link scanning before messages land, multifactor authentication and Conditional Access so a stolen password alone does not open the mailbox, alerts on new inbox rules and sign-ins from unusual places, and DMARC to reduce spoofing of your own domain. KnowBe4 training shows staff what these messages look like. The control that actually stops the loss is a written rule that any change to payment details is confirmed by phone at a known number.
The controls we deploy, in the order we deploy them
Week one closes the doors attackers use most: multifactor authentication on every account, legacy sign-in protocols turned off, administrator rights removed from daily accounts, and ThreatDown EDR on every Windows and Mac device, backed by the managed detection team. Week two hardens email with Barracuda and DMARC reporting and puts Keeper in place of shared password lists. Then come the slower layers: Rapid7 InsightVM scans to find unpatched software and exposed services, a firewall review that closes forwarded ports, separate networks for guests, cameras and card terminals, and Datto or Veeam backups with an immutable copy off site, tested by restoring files and whole machines. KnowBe4 phishing tests run on a schedule, and the results feed a short report that maps each control to the administrative, technical and physical safeguards New York law asks for.
New York rules that set the bar for Staten Island businesses
Any business holding New Yorkers' private information falls under General Business Law section 899-bb, which requires reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards; a small business, meaning fewer than 50 employees, under $3 million in revenue or under $5 million in assets, may scale them to its size and the sensitivity of the data. Section 899-aa requires notice to affected residents within 30 days of discovering a breach, plus notice to the Attorney General, the Department of State and the State Police. Insurance agencies and other DFS licensees also answer to 23 NYCRR Part 500, which since November 1, 2025 expects multifactor authentication for all access to information systems; licensees with a limited exemption under section 500.19(a) still need it for remote access and privileged accounts. Medical offices add the HIPAA Security Rule. This is general information, not legal advice.
Cybersecurity in Staten Island: what NetSys delivers
Watch and respond
- ThreatDown MDR and EDR on every device, with a 24/7 team that isolates and investigates rather than emails
- Rapid7 InsightIDR or Microsoft Sentinel collecting identity, email, endpoint and firewall logs so an intrusion is visible in one place
Harden the tenant and the people
- Microsoft Defender for Business, Entra ID Conditional Access and phishing-resistant sign-in for finance staff
- Legacy authentication off, dormant accounts closed, forwarding rules and consent grants reviewed monthly
Measure and recover
- Rapid7 InsightVM scans of the internal and external footprint, with a monthly fix list
- Managed firewall with intrusion prevention, segmentation and vendor access that is logged and switched off when the work ends
Firewall, antivirus and maintenance for a five-person office
A five-person office needed the basics done properly rather than an enterprise stack. NetSys replaced the internet provider's router with a business-grade firewall configured with sensible rules, secure remote access and logging, deployed managed antivirus on every machine with updates and alerts handled centrally, and put patching, backup checks and health reviews on a schedule. The agreement covers what the office needs and nothing it does not, month to month. No outcome figures were measured for publication.

What cybersecurity costs in Staten Island
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in Staten Island: FAQs
Do you provide on-site cybersecurity in Staten Island?
Yes. Our engineers work on the island in person, installing and configuring firewalls, segmenting networks, swapping compromised hardware and sitting with your staff during an incident. Monitoring, threat hunting and most containment happen remotely, which is faster: ThreatDown can isolate an infected computer within minutes of an alert, long before anyone could cross the bridge. On-site time goes where it adds something, such as a physical walkthrough of the network closet, the cameras and the wall jacks anyone could plug a device into.
How much do cybersecurity services cost on Staten Island?
Security is usually priced per user per month inside a managed IT agreement, or as a security-only plan for a business that keeps its own IT person. The quote follows an assessment and depends on headcount and devices, the level of managed detection and response you need, compliance work such as a HIPAA risk analysis or Part 500 documentation, and one-time projects like a firewall replacement. NetSys does not publish prices. The remote external penetration test, run within an agreed scope, is free and shows what an attacker sees from the internet.
What should a Staten Island business do in the first hour of a ransomware attack?
Disconnect affected machines from the network but leave them powered on, so evidence survives. Do not pay or reply to the attackers, and do not wipe anything. Call your IT provider's emergency line; for NetSys clients that is the dedicated engineer, and ThreatDown may already have isolated the first machine. Call your cyber insurer's hotline early, because many policies require their approved responders. Then start a written timeline, since New York's 30-day notice clock runs from discovery. A tested backup is what turns the event into a recovery rather than a negotiation.
What will a cyber insurer ask a Staten Island business about security?
Applications tend to ask the same things: whether multifactor authentication protects email, remote access and admin accounts, whether endpoint detection and response runs on every device, whether backups are offline or immutable and tested, whether staff get phishing training, and whether a written incident plan exists. Truthful answers decide whether a policy is offered and on what terms, and a wrong answer can complicate a claim. We complete the technical sections of the application with you and keep evidence, such as reports and screenshots, in case coverage is ever questioned.
Can you run a security assessment without taking over our IT?
Yes. Some island firms have an IT person or another provider and want an independent look. We start with the free remote external penetration test, then, as a paid project, review Microsoft 365 configuration, sign-in policies, endpoint coverage, firewall rules, backups and Rapid7 scan results. You get a written findings report ranked by risk, split into fixes your team can make and ones we can make. Many firms then add managed detection and response beside their existing IT support, a co-managed arrangement in which each side's responsibilities are written down.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
