Windows Server 2016 support ends in January 2027
Microsoft ends extended support for Windows Server 2016 on January 12, 2027, which leaves a short runway for Las Vegas offices whose file server, domain controller or line-of-business database still runs on it. An assessment answers three questions: what runs on each server, what depends on it, and where it should go. File shares usually move to SharePoint and OneDrive, identity moves to Entra ID, and applications go to Azure, to the vendor's own cloud, or to a supported server if the vendor insists. We write the plan with a cost and a cutover date for each workload, test with a pilot group, and keep the old server read-only for an agreed period before it is retired. Windows 10 desktops, unsupported since October 14, 2025, are folded into the same plan.
Carrier changes and network redesigns after 2026
Former Cox Business accounts in Las Vegas are moving to Spectrum Business products after Charter closed its acquisition of Cox in August 2026, and for many companies that is the moment to redesign the network rather than simply sign new paperwork. Nevada Gaming Commission Regulation 5.260 applies to holders of nonrestricted gaming licenses and to licensed race books, sports pools and interactive gaming operators. It asks for a risk assessment, cybersecurity best practices (the regulation gives CIS Version 8, COBIT 5, ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST SP 800-53 as examples) and an incident response plan. The January 29, 2026 amendments tightened reporting: the Board chair must hear within 24 hours of the plan's activation, and the Board's May 2026 notice says incidents that begin at a third-party vendor count when patron data is compromised. Group I licensees must designate a qualified individual, have an internal auditor or independent entity verify each year that procedures are followed, and engage an independent accountant or other qualified entity to attest in writing that their practices comply; records are kept for five years. We build and document the controls those reviewers test, including the risk assessment, framework mapping, access reviews, logging, backups and a rehearsed incident response plan, and file the evidence so it can be produced on request.
