Microsoft 365 Migration Services from Google Workspace, Exchange & Other Tenants
Email is the one system every person in the company uses every hour, which is why a migration done casually is remembered for years. NetSys runs Microsoft 365 migration services in a fixed order: identities first, a coexistence period where both systems deliver mail, a rehearsed cutover, and a first week where an engineer is watching the queues instead of waiting for complaints.
The short answer
Microsoft 365 migration services move a business's email, calendars, contacts, files and collaboration data into a Microsoft 365 tenant from wherever they live today: Google Workspace, an on-premises Exchange server, a hosted email provider, or a second Microsoft 365 tenant after a merger. Identities are created or synchronized first, the tenant is secured before it receives data, historical content is copied while the old system stays live, mail flow is switched in a planned cutover, and devices are reconfigured on a schedule. NetSys, in business since 1998, manages the tenant afterward month to month.
The decision to move usually arrives with a deadline: an Exchange server going out of support, a Google Workspace renewal, or two firms combining and needing one address book. The migration itself is well understood. What separates a clean one from a painful one is the planning around it, especially how mail is delivered during the days when some users are on the old system and some on the new.
We have run these for law offices in Brooklyn, importers in Nassau County and healthcare groups in Westchester. Secure the destination before it receives data. Copy history while the source is live so the cutover moves only the last few hours. Keep the old system readable for a month afterward. Latoya Reed's Microsoft 365 team leads the technical work.
Coexistence First, Cutover Once
We build the tenant to a security baseline (MFA, conditional access, Defender policies, backup) before a single mailbox moves. Historical mail and files are copied in the background over days or weeks with the source system untouched. Coexistence keeps calendars and mail routing working across both platforms for firms that cut over in stages. The final cutover changes MX records on a quiet evening, moves the last delta, and reconfigures Outlook and mobile devices through Intune, with a written rollback plan.
What Microsoft 365 Migration Services Cover
From Google Workspace
Gmail, Drive and Calendar into Exchange, OneDrive and SharePoint.
- Mailbox, label and calendar migration with Google labels mapped to Outlook folders
- Shared drives and My Drive moved into SharePoint and OneDrive with permissions reviewed
- Google Groups recreated as Microsoft 365 groups, distribution lists or shared mailboxes
- Chat and Meet replaced with Teams, with training that covers the differences people notice first
From On-Premises Exchange
Retire the server without losing a message.
- Hybrid, cutover or staged migration chosen by mailbox count and how long coexistence must last
- Public folders, shared mailboxes and archives handled as their own workstreams
- Directory synchronization set up so passwords and groups stay consistent during the move
- Exchange server decommissioned safely after the last mailbox and the last connector are moved
Tenant-to-Tenant Moves
Mergers, acquisitions and divestitures without two address books.
- Domain transfer planning, because a domain can live in only one tenant at a time
- Mailbox, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams migration between tenants in scheduled waves
- Licensing consolidation and duplicate-account cleanup before the move
- Conditional access and security policy reconciled so the combined firm has one standard
Cutover & First Week
The change happens once, on purpose, with people watching.
- Cutover runbook with DNS timing, delta sync, device reconfiguration and rollback steps
- Outlook profiles and mobile mail reconfigured through Intune rather than desk by desk
- Help desk staffed for cutover week, with the most common questions answered before they are asked
- Old system kept readable for an agreed period, then retired with data confirmed in backup

Microsoft 365 Migration FAQs
How long does a Microsoft 365 migration take?
Small firms with clean data typically go from kickoff to cutover in a few weeks. Larger mailboxes, public folders, an aging Exchange server or a tenant-to-tenant merger add time because each is its own workstream. We give a dated plan after the assessment, and the cutover is scheduled for an evening or weekend the business chooses.
Will we lose email during the migration?
No, if the migration is sequenced correctly. Historical mail is copied while the old system is still receiving. At cutover, DNS is changed to deliver to Microsoft 365 and a final delta copies anything that arrived in between. The old system stays readable for an agreed period as a safety net. The risk of loss comes from migrations that flip DNS first and copy later, which is the order we do not use.
Can we migrate from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 without disrupting the office?
Yes. Gmail, Calendar, Contacts and Drive all have supported migration paths into Exchange, OneDrive and SharePoint, and users keep working in Google until the cutover. The disruption people feel is the interface change, so we run short training on Outlook and Teams before the switch and keep the help desk close for the first week.
What is coexistence in a Microsoft 365 migration?
Coexistence is the period when both systems are live and mail, calendar availability and the address book work across them. It matters for firms that move in stages, such as one office or department at a time, or that need a hybrid Exchange setup while a server is retired slowly. We configure routing and free/busy sharing so a user on the old system can still schedule a meeting with one who has moved.
Do we need Microsoft 365 migration services if we are already on Microsoft 365?
You might, in two situations. A merger or acquisition leaves two tenants that need to become one, which is a tenant-to-tenant migration with its own rules about domains and licensing. Or the current tenant was set up badly, with shared passwords, no MFA and files in personal OneDrives, and a rebuild into a clean tenant is faster than repairing it.
What does a Microsoft 365 migration cost?
Migrations are quoted as fixed-scope projects based on mailbox and data volume, the source platform and how much coexistence is required, and the quote is written before work starts. After the project, tenant management is included in the month-to-month managed agreement. Call 845-203-3914 or use the contact page for a scoped quote.
