Microsoft Teams Training

Teams is where your staff talk, meet and share files all day, and almost nobody was shown how. NetSys trains your employees on your own Teams, by role, so chat stops leaking into email, meetings run cleanly and files stop living in six places.

The short answer

Microsoft Teams training for business teaches employees to work in Teams day to day: chat, channels, meetings, shared files and Teams Phone basics where your company uses it. NetSys engineers who are certified Microsoft instructors deliver it as a 4-week program or a single session, live online anywhere in the United States or on-site near New York City.

Who Microsoft Teams training is for

A company usually adopts Teams in a hurry: a migration, a new office, a move off another chat tool or a phone system replacement. Everyone gets the app and works out their own habits. Six months later, half the staff chat in Teams and the other half reply by email; meetings are recorded but nobody can find the recordings; the same proposal exists in a chat, a channel and three OneDrives. Microsoft Teams training for employees fixes the habits, not the software.

NetSys trains business teams of every size. For a small business, one standalone session for the whole staff often settles the working practices. For a larger company, the 4-week program runs by department, with a separate track for the team owners and the people who administer Teams. Every session is live, taught by NetSys engineers who are certified Microsoft instructors, and runs in your own tenant on teams and channels prepared with fictional content for the exercises.

Agree the working practices, then practice them

The most useful output of Teams training is a short list of agreements: what goes in chat and what goes in a channel, when to call rather than type, how meetings are scheduled and followed up, and where files live. A skills baseline before the first session shows us where your team's habits differ. The sessions practice the agreed way of working on your own Teams, and the follow-up session settles the questions that real use raised.

What Microsoft Teams training can cover

Chats and channels

The difference between them, and why it matters.

  • One-to-one and group chat, mentions, reactions and when a chat should become a channel
  • Teams, channels, posts and threads, and how notifications are tuned so people stop muting everything
  • Status, presence and quiet hours

Meetings

Scheduling, running and following up a Teams meeting.

  • Scheduling from Outlook or Teams, meeting options and the lobby
  • Sharing a screen or a window, recording, transcripts and where they are stored
  • Chat, notes and tasks that survive after the meeting ends

Files in Teams

Where Teams files really live, and how to share without duplicating.

  • The SharePoint site behind every team and the OneDrive behind every chat
  • Sharing a file in a channel versus attaching a copy
  • Co-authoring, version history and finding a file again

Teams Phone basics

For companies that use Teams as their phone system.

  • Making, taking, holding and transferring calls in Teams
  • Voicemail, call queues and auto attendants from the user's side
  • Devices, headsets and what to do when a call drops

  • Two formats, scoped from a skills baseline, for a small business or a staff across several offices

Microsoft Teams training for employees: what one session covers

A standalone session is scoped to one topic for one team. These are the sessions most often requested, with the exercises each one runs in your tenant:

Session topicWho attendsWhat attendees practice
Teams for everyoneAll staff, in groupsChat versus channels, notifications, joining and running a meeting, sharing a file, finding it again
Meetings that workManagers and anyone who runs meetingsScheduling with options and lobby, sharing, recording and transcripts, notes and follow-up tasks
Files without duplicatesTeams that share documentsWhere channel files live, link sharing, co-authoring, version history, Teams and SharePoint together
Teams Phone basicsStaff who answer and transfer callsCalls, hold, transfer, voicemail, call queues and auto attendants from the user's side, headset setup
Team owners and adminsOwners of a team, the person who administers TeamsCreating teams and channels responsibly, guests, naming, archiving, and the Teams admin center for the admin

A sample 4-week Microsoft Teams training program

This is a sample, not a fixed syllabus. Your program is scoped from a skills baseline and the tasks your managers name; a company that does not use Teams Phone spends week 4 on team ownership and governance instead.

WeekTopicWhat attendees practice in your tenant
Week 1Chat, channels and notificationsChat versus channel, mentions, threads, tuning notifications so nothing important is muted, status and quiet hours
Week 2MeetingsScheduling with the right options, running a meeting with shared screen and recording, finding the recording and transcript, notes and tasks afterward
Week 3Files and the SharePoint behind TeamsWhere channel and chat files live, sharing a link instead of a copy, co-authoring, version history, moving a file that landed in the wrong place
Week 4Teams Phone basics and team governanceCalls, transfers, voicemail and queues from the user's side; for owners, creating and archiving teams, guests, naming and the follow-up questions from three weeks of real use

Microsoft Teams training for small business versus a larger staff

The format follows the size of the team and how far apart its habits are.

SituationUsual formatWhy
Small business, one location, everyone in one TeamsA single standalone session for all staffThe working practices can be agreed in the room and everyone hears the same thing
Small business that just moved to Teams PhoneA standalone Teams Phone basics session, then a general session laterCalls are the urgent part; chat and meetings can follow once calls are routine
Company with several departments or officesThe 4-week program, run by departmentEach department has its own tasks and its own habits; one session for everyone becomes too general
Company moving from another chat toolThe 4-week program with a focus on where things goThe hard part is mapping old habits onto chats, channels and files, which takes practice over weeks

Microsoft Teams training course versus Microsoft's free training

Microsoft publishes free Teams help and video training on Microsoft Support and free self-paced modules on Microsoft Learn (checked on November 7, 2026). For an individual learning Teams, start there. NetSys training is for a business team that needs to agree how it works and practice that in its own tenant, taught live. It is not a certification course: Microsoft's Teams credential, Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate (exam MS-700), is an administrator exam listed on Microsoft Learn, and NetSys training does not prepare for it or award it.

Which Microsoft Teams training format fits?

The same two formats as every NetSys Microsoft 365 training offer:

Each week builds on the last, with practice between sessions in your own tenantA team that has done every core task at least twice, plus the questions and decisions the sessions surfaced
Single standalone sessionOne topic, one team, one problem, such as sharing and permissions, or meetings etiquetteOne live session, scoped to the tasks the manager namesA short list of agreed working practices for that topic

Both formats run live online for teams anywhere in the United States, or on-site within about 50 miles of New York City. Fees are quoted in the proposal for the format you choose.

Common Questions

Microsoft Teams Training FAQs

What does Microsoft Teams training for business cover?

Chat and channels, meetings, files and the SharePoint behind them, and the basics of Teams Phone where your company uses Teams as its phone system. Owner and admin sessions add creating and archiving teams, guests, naming and the Teams admin center. The exact scope comes from a skills baseline and the tasks your managers name.

Is Microsoft Teams training for employees delivered online or on-site?

Both. Sessions run live online for teams anywhere in the United States, with attendees practicing in your own tenant. Within about 50 miles of New York City the sessions can be delivered on-site at your office. The scope and exercises are the same either way.

How is Microsoft Teams training for small business different?

Mostly in format. A small business with everyone in one Teams usually needs a single standalone session where the working practices are agreed in the room. A company with several departments usually runs the 4-week program by department. The topics are the same; the number and grouping of sessions change.

Does the training cover Teams Phone?

Yes, at the user level: making, taking, holding and transferring calls, voicemail, call queues and auto attendants from the user's side, and headsets. Setting up Teams Phone itself, numbers, queues and devices, is a separate NetSys service, described on our Microsoft Teams Phone page.

Is this a Microsoft Teams training course with a certificate?

No. NetSys Teams training is live, role-based practice in your own tenant and does not award a certificate. Microsoft's Teams credential, Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate (exam MS-700), is an administrator exam listed on Microsoft Learn (checked on November 7, 2026); our training is not exam preparation.

Can we run the training in our own Teams?

Yes, and we recommend it. We prepare teams, channels and files with fictional content in your tenant before the session, so attendees practice where they will actually work without touching live conversations or client files.

How many sessions does a Microsoft Teams rollout need?

It depends on how many departments and how different their habits are. One standalone session is common for a small staff. The 4-week program, one session a week, suits a company adopting Teams across departments or moving from another chat tool. The proposal states the number of sessions for your team.

Does Microsoft Teams training include Copilot in Teams?

No. This is non-AI Teams training: chat, channels, meetings, files and Teams Phone basics. Microsoft 365 Copilot, including its features inside Teams meetings, is covered in the separate NetSys AI training for employees program.
