SharePoint Training

SharePoint is where your company's documents are supposed to live, and the reason they still live in email attachments is that nobody was taught to trust it. NetSys trains your staff on your own sites, by role, until finding, sharing and managing files is routine.

The short answer

SharePoint training teaches employees to find, store, share and co-edit documents in SharePoint Online, and teaches site owners and admins to run sites, lists, permissions and workflows. NetSys delivers it live, online anywhere in the United States or on-site near New York City, as a 4-week program or a single session, with exercises in your own tenant on fictional data.

Who SharePoint training is for

SharePoint gets blamed for problems that are really training problems. People cannot find a file because it was saved in the wrong library, or three copies exist because sharing was done by attachment. A site owner adds folders ten levels deep because nobody showed them columns and views. An office manager with the admin role turns on Anyone links for everyone because that made one complaint go away. None of that is fixed by a better intranet design; it is fixed by teaching the people who use it.

NetSys runs three SharePoint tracks: end-user training for everyone who stores and shares documents, power-user training for the people who own a department's site, and administration training for whoever holds the SharePoint admin role. The sessions are built for SharePoint Online in Microsoft 365, taught by NetSys engineers who are certified Microsoft instructors, and run on your own sites with fictional documents written for the exercises.

Role-based practice, not a certification course

A SharePoint training course from a certification vendor teaches the product. NetSys teaches your staff to do their jobs in your SharePoint: the sites, libraries and permissions they will actually use, with the exercises drawn from tasks their managers name. A skills baseline before the first session decides how much time goes to basics and how much to lists, metadata and workflows. The program ends with a follow-up session that settles the working practices the team keeps.

What SharePoint training can include

SharePoint end-user training

Basic SharePoint training for everyone who stores, finds and shares documents.

  • Navigating sites, libraries and search without asking IT
  • Sharing with specific people, link types and what 'Anyone' really means
  • Co-authoring, version history and restoring an earlier copy

SharePoint power-user training

For site owners and the person each department asks.

  • Lists, columns, metadata and views instead of folder trees
  • Site permissions, groups and when to break inheritance
  • The first approval workflow in Power Automate, and how to read its run history

SharePoint admin training

Administration for the person who holds the role.

  • The SharePoint admin center: sites, storage and sharing settings
  • Tenant and site sharing levels, guest access and expiration
  • Permission reviews, retention basics and recovering deleted sites and files
Why NetSys

Why businesses choose NetSys for SharePoint training

Tell us how many people need SharePoint training, whether they are end users, site owners or admins, what goes wrong today, and whether you want a 4-week program or a single session. We will come back with a scope and a proposal.

Who does the work: meet the NetSys team on our About page.

  • Trainers are NetSys engineers who are certified Microsoft and Cisco instructors, and who set up and administer SharePoint for business clients
  • Exercises run on your own sites and libraries, with fictional documents, so the practice matches Monday morning
  • Three tracks, end user, power user and admin, scoped from a skills baseline rather than a fixed course

A sample 4-week SharePoint training program

This is a sample, not a fixed syllabus. Your program is scoped from a skills baseline and the tasks your managers name; some teams spend two weeks on sharing and permissions and skip workflows entirely.

WeekTopicWhat attendees practice in your tenant
Week 1Navigation and librariesFinding a site, a library and a file by search and by structure; uploading, opening in the browser versus the desktop app; syncing a library and adding a shortcut to OneDrive
Week 2Lists and metadataAdding columns to a library, choosing values, building a view that replaces a folder tree, creating a simple list from a spreadsheet
Week 3Sharing and permissionsSharing a file with specific people, choosing the right link type, checking Manage access, understanding inheritance and what a site owner can and cannot see
Week 4Workflows and governanceSetting up an approval on a policy library, reading the run history, naming conventions, who owns what, and the follow-up questions from three weeks of real use

Sample outline for an end-user and power-user program. An admin track replaces weeks 2 to 4 with the admin center, sharing settings and permission reviews.

SharePoint training courses and certification: what NetSys does and does not do

Honest scope. NetSys SharePoint training is role-based practice in your own tenant. It is not a Microsoft certification course and it does not award a certificate or prepare attendees for a Microsoft exam. Microsoft lists its current certifications and exams on Microsoft Learn; if an exam is what you need, that is the place to start.

  • Free SharePoint training: Microsoft publishes free SharePoint video training on Microsoft Support and free self-paced modules on Microsoft Learn (checked on November 7, 2026). For a motivated individual learning the product, that free material is the right first step, and we say so.
  • SharePoint training online: NetSys sessions run live online for a team anywhere in the United States. Attendees share a screen and practice in your tenant; it is not a recorded video course.
  • SharePoint training manuals, PDFs and slide decks: the sessions are hands-on rather than slide-based. What attendees keep afterward is agreed in the scope.
  • SharePoint development training: the NetSys tracks are for end users, power users and administrators. Custom code development is outside the standard tracks; tell us if your team needs it and we will say whether we can scope it.

SharePoint tips and tricks we teach in every session

The habits that stop most SharePoint complaints. Each one is a feature of SharePoint Online that Microsoft documents in its free training; the value is in practicing them on your own sites until they stick.

  • Share a link to the file, not a copy. One file, one version history, and everyone sees the current text.
  • Pick the link type on purpose. Specific people for anything sensitive; the company-wide link only for material anyone in the organization may read.
  • Check Manage access before you ask IT who can see a file. The answer is on the file.
  • Use columns and views instead of folders inside folders. A client column and a year column replace a hundred subfolders and make search work.
  • Add a shortcut to OneDrive for the libraries you use daily, so they appear in File Explorer or Finder without syncing everything.
  • Restore from version history before you ask for a backup restore. The earlier copy is usually one click away.
  • Keep the full path short. The path plus file name has a limit, and long nested folder names are what hit it during a file-server move.

SharePoint workflow training: approvals, lists and the governance around them

Workflow training is the power-user week. Attendees build an approval on a policy or contract library in Power Automate, test it with an absent approver and a rejection, and read the run history. Governance is the part most teams skip: who owns a site, how it is named, who reviews permissions, and what happens when the owner leaves.

Which SharePoint training format fits?

The same two formats as every NetSys Microsoft 365 training offer:

FormatBest forHow it runsWhat it leaves behind
4-week programA team adopting Microsoft 365 properly, or a company moving off another platformOne live session a week for four weeks. Each week builds on the last, with practice between sessions in your own tenantA team that has done every core task at least twice, plus the questions and decisions the sessions surfaced
Single standalone sessionOne topic, one team, one problem, such as sharing and permissions, or meetings etiquetteOne live session, scoped to the tasks the manager namesA short list of agreed working practices for that topic

Both formats run live online for teams anywhere in the United States, or on-site within about 50 miles of New York City. Fees are quoted in the proposal for the format you choose.

Common Questions

SharePoint Training FAQs

What is the difference between SharePoint end-user training and admin training?

End-user training teaches everyone who stores and shares documents: navigation, search, sharing links, co-authoring and version history. Admin training is for the person with the SharePoint admin role: the admin center, tenant and site sharing settings, guest access, permission reviews and recovery. Power-user training sits between them, for site owners who manage lists, metadata, views and the first workflow.

Is SharePoint training available online?

Yes. NetSys runs SharePoint training live online for teams anywhere in the United States, with attendees practicing in your own tenant during the session. Within about 50 miles of New York City the same sessions can be delivered on-site. Either way it is live instruction, not a recorded course.

Is this a SharePoint certification course?

No. NetSys SharePoint training is role-based practice in your own tenant. It does not award a certificate and is not exam preparation. Microsoft lists its current certifications and exams on Microsoft Learn (checked on November 7, 2026); if your goal is a credential, start there.

Is there free SharePoint training?

Yes. Microsoft publishes free SharePoint video training on Microsoft Support and free self-paced modules on Microsoft Learn (checked on November 7, 2026). For an individual learning the product, that is the right first step. NetSys training is for a business team that needs to work the same way in the same tenant, with exercises on its own sites.

Can the training use our own SharePoint sites?

Yes, and it should. Exercises run in your tenant on the sites, libraries and lists your staff will actually use. We prepare fictional documents and list items for the session so nobody practices on live client, patient or financial records.

Which version of SharePoint do you teach?

SharePoint Online, the version included in Microsoft 365 plans. The sessions assume your sites are in Microsoft 365, and the exercises use the current SharePoint Online interface in the browser and the OneDrive sync client.

What does basic SharePoint training for end users cover?

Finding a site and a file, opening in the browser versus the desktop app, uploading, sharing with specific people, choosing a link type, checking who has access, co-authoring, and restoring an earlier version. That is the week 1 and week 3 material in the sample program, and for many teams a single standalone session covers it.

Do you provide a SharePoint training manual or PDF?

The sessions are hands-on rather than slide-based, so there is no generic manual. What attendees keep after each session, such as the exercise files and step lists used in your tenant, is agreed in the scope before the program starts.

Does SharePoint training include workflows?

Yes, in the power-user track. Attendees build an approval on a policy or contract library in Power Automate, test it with an absent approver and a rejection, and learn to read the run history. Our SharePoint approval workflow guide shows the build the exercise follows.
