NetSys vs. smartIT
smartIT is one of the firms a Nassau County search for IT services puts in front of you. Its contracts page is what makes this comparison unusually easy to run: renewal and termination mechanics are written where a buyer can read them before calling anyone. Below, those published terms sit next to ours.
The short answer
smartIT is the strongest publisher of terms in this comparison. Their contracts page lays out auto-renewal and termination mechanics, SLA acknowledgement targets by ticket severity, a three month introductory contract and a data handoff at the end of the relationship. If those are your questions, they answer them in public. NetSys is the better choice when privileged access and identity management belong in the base agreement, and when you want no term at all rather than a well documented one.
What smartIT is
smartIT publishes a Long Island headquarters, five regional phone numbers covering New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and New Jersey, and remote support nationwide. The founders are named as three former IBM leaders, and the site states the service is built for businesses of five to five hundred employees. Two pages carry most of the weight. The contracts page itemizes services by contract type and publishes how each arrangement ends; the backup page publishes recovery objectives, monitoring and verified test restores across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, servers, workstations and cloud applications. They also publish a public pricing page, which few providers in this market do.

Terms in public, or no term at all
Very few providers put termination mechanics on a website. smartIT does, covering what auto-renewal does and the data and documentation handoff that happens when a client leaves, for annual and month to month arrangements alike. A buyer can read all of that before the first call, which is worth something real. NetSys reaches the same protection by a different route. There is no term to terminate. Every agreement is month to month with no early-exit penalty, so what you would otherwise negotiate as an exit clause is simply how it works.
Restore testing, where both firms agree
On backup the two firms are saying similar things, and that is worth stating plainly rather than manufacturing a difference. Their backup page publishes recovery objectives, monitoring and verified test restores across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, servers, workstations and cloud applications, which is the right set of things to test. Ours publishes a written recovery plan with restores that are performed and timed, plus more than 30 ransomware incidents handled in three years, every one fully recovered. Ask each firm for the date of the last test restore and what the result was.
Where the credentials live
Privileged access management is the single dimension we searched their site for and could not find published. It matters because domain admin accounts, hypervisor consoles, firewall logins and backup consoles are the first things a ransomware crew goes looking for, and how a provider stores and rotates those credentials decides how bad a bad day becomes. NetSys puts PAM and privileged identity management in the base agreement, each with its own service page describing the work, so the answer sits on our site instead of arriving in a follow-up email. There may well be a good answer on their side that simply is not published.
What each of us publishes

Four more things worth knowing about smartIT
Size and history
- smartIT publishes that it was founded by three named former IBM leaders and states its services are for businesses with 5 to 500 employees. (smartit.nyc)
NetSys: Independent since 1998. One office, in Brooklyn, and no private equity owner behind the name.
Industries they name
- The About page names the industries and departments served; the page sitemap lists dedicated pages for schools, law firms, accounting firms, construction, dental practices, art galleries, religious organizations, property management, project management, startups, nonprofits, small businesses and enterprises. (smartit.nyc)
NetSys: Twenty six industries with a page each, from healthcare and legal to hedge funds, auto dealers and government contractors.
Compliance work published
- The site's Cybersecurity Services navigation grouping names SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI as compliance areas and lists CIS Control Implementation as a service. (smartit.nyc)
- The contracts page states SOC2-aligned controls documentation is available on request as part of vendor onboarding. (smartit.nyc)
NetSys: Nine frameworks with a service page each: HIPAA, CMMC 2.0, SOC 2, NIST CSF 2.0, NYDFS 23 NYCRR 500, NY SHIELD, FTC Safeguards, PCI DSS and GLBA.
Rates on the website
- The pricing page lists per-user monthly rates for named tiers (MDM & User Management $79, Guardian Lite $99+, Managed IT Services $150+, Account Management $150+, IT Management Services $175, Guardian $250+), hourly starting rates (Project IT Support $175+, vCIO and vCISO $200+, Emergency IT Support $250+), and $750+ per-project starting rates for Google Meet Room and Zoom Room AV/VoIP work. (smartit.nyc)
- smartIT publishes a public pricing page whose page title states plans start at $79 per user per month. (smartit.nyc)
NetSys: We do not publish rates. We quote per business rather than per seat, after a call, because a thirty person firm with two servers and a thirty person firm with a regulator are not the same job.
What we looked for on their site and could not find
privileged access, privileged identity management or managed credentials.
That means we did not find it published, not that it does not exist. Ask them directly, and ask us the same questions. If smartIT publishes any of this and we missed it, write to info@netsysgroup.com and we will add it.
The honest fit: is NetSys the right smartIT alternative?
When smartIT is the better choice
Read smartIT's contracts page first if you like to understand a deal before you talk to anyone. It publishes SLA acknowledgement targets by ticket severity, along with the mechanics of renewal and termination. The managed services page publishes a thirty minute average response and states that requests reach their own IT professionals rather than a call center or a script. For a five to five hundred person Long Island business, that is a lot of questions answered up front.
When NetSys is the better choice
Pick NetSys if the base agreement has to carry privileged access and privileged identity management, nine compliance frameworks with a service page each, disaster recovery planning and an in-house AI practice, on terms with no minimum period whatsoever. An account manager hands you a real cell number, monitoring runs 24/7, and a free Tier 1 external penetration test comes before any of it, with the findings yours to keep.
NetSys and smartIT: FAQs
What does smartIT include in its managed services?
Their contracts page itemizes the inclusions by the contract selected rather than publishing one universal package, and the managed services page states a thirty minute average response handled by their own IT professionals. Backup, recovery objectives and verified test restores are published separately, and the cybersecurity navigation names SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI alongside CIS control implementation. A NetSys agreement is one line covering AI services, cybersecurity, managed IT with help desk, PAM, PIM and disaster recovery planning, which is a different shape of document to hold theirs against.
What is the best smartIT alternative in Nassau County?
NetSys is worth a look, and the choice comes down to two questions. First, whether privileged access management has to be in the agreement, which we publish and could not find on their site. Second, whether you want a documented term with documented exits or no term at all, since our agreements are month to month with no early-exit penalty. NetSys has been independent since 1998, works from one office in Brooklyn, and covers Nassau County with on-site engineers.
What happens to our data if we leave an IT provider?
All of it should come back to you, and smartIT is one of the few firms that publishes what that looks like, describing a data and documentation handoff on its contracts page. That is the paragraph to hunt for in any agreement, because documentation is what a successor firm needs most and the hardest thing to demand after a relationship sours. NetSys agreements are month to month and the handover obligation is written in rather than left to the end of a term. Ask both firms who owns the network diagrams.
Do both firms cover Nassau County with on-site engineers?
Yes. smartIT publishes a Long Island headquarters, a list of onsite coverage counties and boroughs across New York and New Jersey, and remote support nationwide. NetSys works from one office in Brooklyn and sends engineers out across the New York metro and Long Island, with Westchester, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey and Connecticut in the same footprint and remote delivery anywhere in the United States. For most Nassau work the on-site question matters less than it once did, since monitoring, patching and help desk all run remotely, and what is left is the visit nobody can schedule in advance.
