IT Support for Professional Services in Raleigh, NC
Consultants, engineers, accountants, lawyers and agencies in Raleigh sell expertise to the state, to RTP's large employers and to each other, and nearly every one of those clients now asks how its data is protected. NetSys runs the IT behind a good answer, remotely from Brooklyn: the help desk, Microsoft 365, security controls and the evidence that proves they work.
The short answer
NetSys provides IT support and managed IT for professional services firms in Raleigh, NC: consulting, engineering, accounting, legal and marketing practices that need an engineer-staffed help desk, Microsoft 365 and SharePoint administration, ThreatDown security, Intune-managed laptops and documented controls they can show to clients. Support is remote and cloud-based only, with no engineers sent to Raleigh offices; laptops ship through Windows Autopilot and network gear arrives configured. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time. Pricing is per user per month after an assessment, on month-to-month terms.

What changes for a professional services firm in Raleigh
Professional and business services account for about 155,400 of the Raleigh-Cary metro's 783,200 nonfarm jobs, roughly one in five, according to preliminary BLS figures for September 2026. The client base explains the mix. The State of North Carolina employs more than 24,000 people in Wake County and Research Triangle Park, so consultants, engineers, lobbyists and lawyers near the capitol carry agency data and agency expectations. RTP's large employers, among them IBM, Cisco, Fidelity, Lenovo, IQVIA and RTI, run supplier risk programs that send a security questionnaire before a statement of work is signed. Health systems such as WakeMed and UNC Rex add business associate agreements for anyone touching patient data. Most firms doing this work are small: five to fifty people in a downtown tower, a North Hills suite or a Cary office park, with staff who also work from home and from client sites. Many keep a second office in Durham, Charlotte or Wilmington. The IT has to make a small firm hold up under scrutiny like a well-run large one: every sign-in protected, every laptop encrypted, every file permission deliberate, and evidence ready when a client's risk team asks for it.
How remote IT support works for a Raleigh firm
Staff reach our engineers by phone, email or Teams, and most problems are fixed in a remote session while the person watches. No NetSys engineer works on site in Raleigh, so the setup is designed around that from the start. New laptops are bought to a standard, registered with Windows Autopilot and Intune, and sent to the office or a new hire's home, with the firm's apps, document templates and security tools installing at first sign-in. Departures are handled within the hour: sign-in blocked, mailbox and OneDrive handed to a partner, the laptop wiped remotely. The office firewall and Wi-Fi arrive configured for your staff or building contractor to connect. A critical problem gets a call back within ten minutes and an engineer connected within thirty, which matters most at 4 p.m. before a filing deadline or a client presentation. A dedicated account manager handles renewals, licensing and the questions that are not tickets.
Client security questionnaires and the evidence behind your answers
A large client's vendor risk team may send the Shared Assessments SIG, the Cloud Security Alliance's CAIQ or its own spreadsheet of a few hundred questions, and a fifteen-person firm usually has nobody whose job is to answer it. We complete the technical sections with you and attach evidence rather than adjectives: the Conditional Access policy that forces multifactor sign-in, an Intune compliance report showing every laptop encrypted, ThreatDown coverage across all endpoints, KnowBe4 training completion, Rapid7 scan results, backup restore logs and a written incident response plan. Approved answers go into a library in IT Glue, so the next questionnaire takes hours instead of weeks and the answers stay consistent from one client to the next. Where a control is missing, we say so and give a date to close it, because an honest gap with a plan holds up better than an answer that later proves untrue. Firms asked for a SOC 2 report can begin a readiness project from the same evidence.
One office, several offices or a five-person practice
A firm with offices in Raleigh and Charlotte, or a Raleigh headquarters with a Wilmington satellite, needs the same identity, files and phones everywhere. Each office gets a Cisco Meraki or Fortinet firewall with a site-to-site link, files move into SharePoint libraries organized by client or matter with access granted by group, and Microsoft Teams Phone can replace separate phone systems so a call to the main number reaches whoever is free in any office. People move between locations and home without juggling VPN connections for everyday work. At the other end of the scale, a five-person practice in a shared suite does not need an enterprise stack. It needs a proper firewall instead of the box the internet provider supplied, protection on every laptop, Microsoft 365 configured properly with multifactor sign-in, backups that are tested and patching that happens on schedule. The agreement is sized to what the office actually uses and runs month to month.
Everything else about how we serve the area, including coverage, how support is delivered and the honest answer about where our office is, lives on our page for managed IT services in Raleigh.
Rules that shape IT for Raleigh professional services firms
North Carolina Identity Theft Protection Act (G.S. 75-65 and 75-64)
Any firm holding North Carolina residents' personal information must notify affected people without unreasonable delay after a breach, report to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and, for any notice going to over 1,000 people at once, alert the consumer reporting agencies that keep nationwide files. G.S. 75-64 adds a written disposal policy and destruction or erasure of paper and electronic records, which covers retired laptops, copiers and drives. The Department of Justice received a record 2,349 breach reports in 2025, and its office reviews every notice.
Law firms: Rules 1.6(c) and 1.1 of the North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct
Rule 1.6(c) requires a lawyer to make reasonable efforts to prevent the inadvertent or unauthorized disclosure of, or unauthorized access to, information relating to the representation of a client. Comment [8] to Rule 1.1 says a lawyer should keep up with the benefits and risks of the technology relevant to the lawyer's practice. For a Raleigh firm that usually means multifactor sign-in, encrypted devices, controlled sharing of client files, retention settings and a tested answer to a misdirected email.
Accounting and tax firms: FTC Safeguards Rule and IRS Publication 4557
Tax preparation firms are financial institutions under the FTC Safeguards Rule, which requires a written information security program run by a designated Qualified Individual, a written risk assessment, multifactor authentication for anyone accessing customer information and encryption of that information on your systems and in transit. Since May 2024 the rule also requires notice to the FTC no later than 30 days after discovering an unauthorized acquisition of unencrypted information involving at least 500 consumers. IRS Publication 4557 walks tax professionals through the same safeguards.
Defense work: DFARS 252.204-7012, NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC
Engineering and consulting firms handling controlled unclassified information on Defense contracts must still meet DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2 and keep a current SPRS score and affirmation. On July 13, 2026 the Department of War suspended CMMC Phase 2, the third-party Level 2 certification that was due to start November 10, 2026, while a reform task force reviews the program; Level 1 and Level 2 self-assessments remain in force. Professional Services Firms in Raleigh: FAQs
Who provides IT support for professional services firms in Raleigh?
NetSys supports Raleigh consulting, engineering, accounting, legal and marketing firms remotely from its one office, in Brooklyn, NY, without a local branch. The service covers the help desk, Microsoft 365, laptops, security and the evidence clients ask for, under one month-to-month agreement. NetSys has run IT for businesses since 1998; its engineers hold degrees in electrical engineering, electronics engineering and computer science and are certified in Cisco and Microsoft. Each firm gets its own account manager, reachable on a real cell number, and 98% of clients stay with us.
What does IT support cost for a professional services firm in Raleigh, NC?
There is no published figure; the per-user monthly fee comes out of an assessment. For professional firms the fee moves with the number of offices and networks, the compliance evidence you need (Safeguards Rule paperwork for a tax practice, a NIST SP 800-171 score for defense subcontracting), controls a client contract requires, such as data loss prevention or SOC 2 readiness, and the mix of Windows and Mac machines. Laptops, licenses and projects such as an office move are quoted separately after scoping. Our managed IT pricing page explains what sits inside the monthly fee.
How do you help Raleigh firms answer client security questionnaires (SIG or CAIQ)?
Forward the questionnaire as soon as it arrives, along with the client's deadline. We then return the technical answers we can support with evidence, flag the questions that are business decisions for you, such as insurance limits or background checks, and list any control that is not yet in place with a realistic date to fix it. If the client wants a call with its security team, our engineer joins it. Over time the answer library means most new questionnaires are largely prefilled before you read them.
Do you support Microsoft 365 and our project-accounting or practice software?
Yes. We administer the Microsoft 365 tenant end to end: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, licensing and security settings. For project accounting, time and billing, practice-management or document management systems, the software vendor owns the application and we own everything around it: single sign-on through Entra ID where the product supports it, the laptops and browsers it runs on, the integrations with Microsoft 365, and backups of any data it keeps locally. When something breaks, we open the vendor ticket and join the call so your staff are not the go-between.
How does IT support work for Raleigh professional services firms?
Remotely and on your own time zone. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time. No NetSys engineer is based in or travels to Raleigh, so laptops ship pre-enrolled and the firewall and Wi-Fi come preconfigured, ready for someone in the office to plug in. Ransomware, systems down, no internet or email outages go straight to your dedicated engineer. Onboarding runs over Teams across about three to four weeks for a 20-seat firm, with every stage planned so billable work is not interrupted.
Can you support staff who work at client sites around RTP?
Yes, and the setup assumes they will. Firm data stays in Microsoft 365, protected by Conditional Access that checks the user, the device and the sign-in risk, so consultants work over a client's guest Wi-Fi without exposing anything. Intune keeps their laptops encrypted, patched and protected wherever they are. Where a client issues its own laptop or account, we keep firm and client data apart so nothing crosses over. If a client network blocks a tool your staff need, the help desk works out an approved alternative with them during the call.
