IT Support for Professional Services Firms on Long Island

Consulting practices, staffing agencies, marketing and PR shops, HR and benefits advisers: Long Island's professional firms sell expertise, and more of their clients send a security questionnaire before signing. NetSys runs the laptops, Microsoft 365, phones and security for firms in Garden City, Melville, Uniondale and Hauppauge, and for staff who split the week between home, the office and Manhattan.

The short answer

NetSys provides IT support for professional services firms on Long Island: a help desk for every user, laptops enrolled through Intune and Windows Autopilot, Microsoft 365 administration, multifactor sign-in, endpoint protection, email security and backups, plus the written answers and evidence clients expect in security questionnaires. We come on site across Nassau and western Suffolk from our Brooklyn office; an office near Patchogue or Port Jefferson, 50 to 60 miles away, gets a confirmed drive time before any visit, and staff on the East End are supported remotely. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time.

What changes for a professional firm on Long Island

Long Island's office market is a string of corridors rather than one downtown. Melville along Route 110, introduced at a 2015 commercial real estate panel as Long Island's corporate capital, holds Canon's Americas headquarters and Henry Schein's head office; Garden City and Mineola cluster around the county courts and government offices; RXR Plaza anchors Uniondale; and Hauppauge mixes professional suites with its industrial park. Staff commute by car or on the LIRR, which since February 2023 has run full service into Grand Central Madison as well as Penn Station, and most firms now work a hybrid week. That pattern sets the IT agenda: laptops that behave the same in Huntington, in Hicksville and in a client's Midtown conference room; Teams calling instead of an aging phone system in the closet; shared files with clean permissions, so a departing consultant does not leave with a client folder; and a clear, documented answer when a bank, a hospital or a public agency sends a long questionnaire about encryption, multifactor sign-in and incident response before awarding work.

How support works for a hybrid Long Island office

Most of the work happens remotely, because most of your people are not always in the office. The help desk takes calls and tickets from wherever staff are working, and NinjaOne lets an engineer see the laptop in question. New hires get a laptop shipped to their door, enrolled through Windows Autopilot so it configures itself with your apps and policies when they sign in; leavers are cut off the same afternoon. When work needs someone in the room, engineers make the trip from Park Slope, under an hour to Uniondale or Garden City on a good day and more to Melville or Hauppauge, to set up conference room video, fix Wi-Fi, install printers or move an office. Your dedicated account manager has a real cell number, and severe problems go straight to your dedicated engineer.

Answering client security questionnaires

Questionnaires arrive in a few common formats, such as the Shared Assessments SIG and the Cloud Security Alliance's CAIQ, or as a client's own spreadsheet, and they ask the same core questions. Do all users sign in with MFA? Are laptops encrypted? Is there endpoint detection and response? How often are backups tested? Are vulnerabilities scanned and patched? Do staff take security training? Is there a written incident response plan, and who are your critical vendors? We keep the answers and the evidence in IT Glue: BitLocker and Intune compliance reports, ThreatDown coverage, Rapid7 scan summaries, KnowBe4 completions and backup test logs. Where a control is missing we say so and give a date, which clients trust more than a wall of yeses. Cyber insurance applications ask nearly the same questions, so one evidence set serves both.

Continuity when the office, or one person, is unavailable

For a professional firm, the office matters less than it used to; the systems and the people who know them matter more. If files, email and phones live in Microsoft 365 and Teams, a storm that closes the building, like the August 2024 rain that flooded roads across northern Brookhaven and Smithtown, becomes a work-from-home day rather than a lost week. The harder risk is a single point of knowledge: the partner who holds the domain registrar login, the office manager who knows the firewall password. We move those credentials into Keeper with shared vaults, document administrator accounts and vendors in IT Glue, and back up Microsoft 365 separately from Microsoft's own retention. Suffolk County's 2022 attack is a reminder about the basics too: investigators found firewalls that had reached end of life, so we track every device's support date.

Everything else about how we serve the area, including coverage, how support is delivered and the honest answer about where our office is, lives on our page for IT services on Long Island.

The rules that apply

Rules that reach Long Island professional services firms

SHIELD Act safeguards, scaled for small firms

GBL 899-bb requires any business holding New Yorkers' private information, including its own employee records, to keep a security program with reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards. A small business, defined as one with fewer than 50 employees, under $3 million in gross annual revenue in each of the last three years, or under $5 million in year-end assets, may size those safeguards to its size, its activities and the sensitivity of the data it holds.

SHIELD Act breach notice

When private information is breached, GBL 899-aa requires notice to affected New York residents within 30 days of discovery and to the Attorney General, the Department of State and the Division of State Police, with copies of the notice and an estimate of how many people were affected. If more than 5,000 New Yorkers are notified at one time, the consumer reporting agencies must be told as well.

Rules your clients pass down to you

Clients in regulated industries push their obligations onto vendors. A firm that handles protected health information for a provider is a business associate under HIPAA and signs an agreement that brings the Security Rule with it. Firms licensed by DFS must keep written policies for third-party service providers under 23 NYCRR 500.11, covering access controls including MFA, encryption and breach notice, so their contracts ask the same of you. Common Questions

Professional Services Firms in Long Island: FAQs

Who provides IT support for professional services firms on Long Island?

NetSys does, working from our Park Slope office and sending engineers to Nassau and western Suffolk when a visit helps; East End staff are supported remotely. We act as the IT department for consulting firms, staffing agencies, marketing and PR firms, HR and benefits advisers and similar offices, or support an internal IT person on a co-managed basis. Our engineers are certified in Cisco and Microsoft, the firm was founded in 1998, and you can leave on a month's notice.

What does IT support cost for a professional services firm on Long Island?

It is a per-user monthly fee set after an assessment; we do not publish a price. The inputs are the number of users and devices, how many offices you run, how much of the environment already lives in Microsoft 365, your security and compliance needs, and how often clients audit you. Projects such as an office move, a phone system replacement or a tenant migration are quoted separately after scoping, so the monthly fee covers support, security and monitoring.

How do you help Long Island firms answer client security questionnaires such as SIG or CAIQ?

We build the controls first, then answer from evidence. In the first weeks we close the gaps that questionnaires flag most, usually MFA for everyone, laptop encryption, endpoint detection, tested backups and a written incident response plan. Then we keep a standing answer set with supporting reports in IT Glue, so the next questionnaire takes hours instead of weeks. We review your draft answers before they go out and flag anything we cannot support.

Do you support Microsoft 365 and the project, CRM and accounting tools our firm uses?

Yes. Microsoft 365 is our core platform: Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune and Entra ID, including licensing, security settings and backups. For project management, time and billing, CRM and accounting applications, we handle access, single sign-on where available, devices and integrations, and work with each vendor on application problems. We also clean up permissions before a Copilot rollout, so AI search does not surface files people should not see.

Can you support a firm with offices in Nassau, Suffolk and Manhattan?

Yes. Manhattan is closer to our Park Slope office than most of Long Island, so offices in all three places sit inside our on-site coverage. We build every office on one standard for Wi-Fi, firewalls, printing and conference rooms, and run one help desk and one set of documentation across them. If you add a satellite office past Port Jefferson or on the East End, we support it remotely and ship its equipment pre-configured.

What happens in our first weeks with NetSys?

Before day one we collect the inventory: users, devices, accounts, vendors and who holds which passwords. On the first day staff get the new help desk number and email, NinjaOne and ThreatDown are installed on every computer, and administrator access moves into Keeper. Over the next weeks we turn on MFA, tighten sharing settings and test a restore. Most people notice a sign-in prompt on their phone and faster answers when they call.
