Cybersecurity Services in North Jersey
A hospital system, a city hall and a university in North Jersey have all been hit by ransomware in recent years, and the same crews go after the law offices, medical groups and suppliers around them. NetSys watches your devices, accounts and email around the clock, closes the gaps attackers use, and sends engineers to your site for firewall and network work.
The short answer
NetSys provides cybersecurity services in North Jersey: ThreatDown managed detection and response with Microsoft Defender for Business on every device, Entra ID Conditional Access and multifactor sign-in, Barracuda email protection with DMARC, Keeper password management, Rapid7 InsightVM vulnerability scanning, KnowBe4 training and immutable Datto or Veeam backups. Monitoring and emergency response run 24/7, and engineers come on site in Hudson, Essex, Union, Bergen, Passaic and Morris counties for firewall replacements, segmentation and incident work. Managed security is priced per user per month, month to month.

How cybersecurity is delivered for North Jersey offices
Most security work never needs a car. ThreatDown agents stream endpoint activity to analysts who can cut a laptop off the network remotely, Entra ID logs every sign-in, and Rapid7 scans run weekly against servers, workstations and the firewall. The on-site part is physical: installing a Fortinet or Cisco Meraki firewall, splitting guest Wi-Fi and cameras away from the office network, pulling an infected machine during an incident and walking a new office before the lease is signed. Engineers drive out from Park Slope for that work. Downtown Newark and Jersey City are under 45 minutes away, and the Route 80 and I-287 office parks around Parsippany and Morristown about an hour. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
Recent attacks in North Jersey, and what they teach
Three incidents show the pattern. In December 2019 a ransomware attack on Hackensack Meridian Health forced about 100 elective surgeries to be rescheduled and kept some systems down for five days; the health system paid an undisclosed ransom. In July 2024 the Rhysida group hit New Jersey City University shortly before the school year. On November 27, 2024 ransomware closed Hoboken City Hall for the day, suspended all online city services and cancelled municipal court. Organizations with security staff were caught out, so a 15-person accounting firm in Wayne or a dental group in Paramus should assume the same tools are pointed at it. The lessons are basic and testable: backups the attacker cannot reach, accounts that need more than a password, and someone watching alerts at night.
What NetSys runs, and the attack each layer stops
Conditional Access and multifactor prompts make a phished password useless on its own and refuse sign-ins from devices outside our management. Barracuda Email Protection filters phishing and lookalike domains before they land, and an enforced DMARC record keeps criminals from sending invoices in your company's name. ThreatDown managed detection and response watches each endpoint and isolates a machine as soon as ransomware behavior starts. Keeper replaces the passwords kept in spreadsheets and browsers. Rapid7 InsightVM finds missing patches and exposed services, and NinjaOne closes them. Datto SIRIS and Veeam keep immutable off-site copies that a compromised admin account cannot delete. KnowBe4 phishing tests show which staff need more coaching. Over the past three years NetSys has worked more than 30 ransomware cases, and all of them ended in full recovery.
New Jersey rules a security program has to answer
The breach statute, N.J.S.A. 56:8-163, reaches any business holding New Jersey residents' personal information: customers are notified in the most expedient time possible, the Division of State Police hears first, and the national credit bureaus are told when more than 1,000 people get notices at once. The New Jersey Data Privacy Act, effective January 15, 2025, covers controllers handling data on 100,000 consumers, or 25,000 if they sell data, and requires reasonable administrative, technical and physical security; it has no exemption for nonprofits. SEC-registered advisers answer to amended Regulation S-P, with a 30-day customer notice deadline, and tax preparers to the FTC Safeguards Rule, which requires a report to the FTC within 30 days of a breach affecting 500 or more consumers. This is general information, not legal advice.
Proof for insurers, hospital partners and pharma clients
In this region, security gets checked by outsiders. Cyber insurers ask at every renewal about multifactor authentication, endpoint detection and response, separated backups and staff training. Drugmakers and hospital systems send vendor questionnaires before they share data, and advisory firms' compliance consultants ask for incident response plans. We keep the evidence current in IT Glue: endpoint coverage reports, Conditional Access policies, Rapid7 scan trends, phishing-test results and dated restore tests, summarized for you each quarter. The free external penetration test is a common starting point: a remote test of what your firm exposes to the internet, within a scope we agree in writing, with a report you keep whether or not you hire us.
Cybersecurity in North Jersey: what NetSys delivers
Watch and respond
- ThreatDown MDR and EDR on every device, with a 24/7 team that isolates and investigates rather than emails
- Rapid7 InsightIDR or Microsoft Sentinel collecting identity, email, endpoint and firewall logs so an intrusion is visible in one place
Harden the tenant and the people
- Microsoft Defender for Business, Entra ID Conditional Access and phishing-resistant sign-in for finance staff
- Legacy authentication off, dormant accounts closed, forwarding rules and consent grants reviewed monthly
Measure and recover
- Rapid7 InsightVM scans of the internal and external footprint, with a monthly fix list
- Managed firewall with intrusion prevention, segmentation and vendor access that is logged and switched off when the work ends
Firewall, antivirus and maintenance for a five-person office
A five-person office needed the basics done properly rather than an enterprise stack. NetSys replaced the internet provider's router with a business-grade firewall configured with sensible rules, secure remote access and logging, deployed managed antivirus on every machine with updates and alerts handled centrally, and put patching, backup checks and health reviews on a schedule. The agreement covers what the office needs and nothing it does not, month to month. No outcome figures were measured for publication.

What cybersecurity costs in North Jersey
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in North Jersey: FAQs
Do you provide on-site cybersecurity in North Jersey?
Yes. Engineers come on site anywhere in the six core North Jersey counties, from Hudson and Essex out to Morris and Passaic, to install and replace firewalls, separate networks, fix Wi-Fi security and work an incident in person when a machine has to be pulled. Detection, response and patching run remotely and continuously, so protection does not wait for a visit. Our only office is in Brooklyn, and we give you the honest drive time to your address before you sign.
How much do cybersecurity services cost in North Jersey?
Managed security is a per-user monthly fee set after an assessment, and we do not publish a rate. What moves it: the number of users, devices and servers, how many sites and firewalls you run, which questionnaires or rules you answer to, such as HIPAA, Regulation S-P or a drugmaker's vendor review, log retention, and whether you add vCISO time or penetration testing. A firewall replacement or an incident response engagement is quoted as a project.
What happens when a security alert fires at 2 a.m.?
Monitoring and emergency response run 24/7. ThreatDown analysts review the alert and can isolate the affected computer from the network immediately, and anything that looks like ransomware, a hijacked mailbox or systems down goes straight to your dedicated NetSys engineer. The next morning you get a plain account of what happened, what was touched and what we changed, and any restores come from immutable backups that the attacker could not reach.
Do we need managed detection and response, or is antivirus enough?
Antivirus blocks known bad files. Managed detection and response watches behavior, such as a process encrypting shared folders or an admin account signing in from abroad, and a human analyst acts on it at any hour. For a North Jersey firm the practical reason is usually the insurance renewal: carriers now ask whether endpoint detection and response is deployed and monitored. We run ThreatDown MDR alongside Microsoft Defender for Business on every endpoint.
What is the free external penetration test?
It is a remote test of the systems your firm exposes to the internet, such as the firewall, VPN, email and any public servers or web portals, within a scope we agree in writing first. An engineer walks you through what an attacker could see and try, ranked by risk, and you keep the written report either way. It is the only free offer NetSys makes, and it needs no visit to your office.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
