Managed IT Services in Honolulu, HI

Running IT from an island means coordinating mainland vendors, cloud services across the Pacific and a power grid with no neighbors to lean on. NetSys takes on the whole environment for Honolulu organizations, from security, Microsoft 365 and backups to the network and every vendor relationship, managed remotely from Brooklyn for one per-user monthly fee.

The short answer

NetSys provides managed IT services to Honolulu organizations for a per-user monthly fee set after an assessment. The agreement covers an engineer-led help desk, NinjaOne monitoring and patching, ThreatDown managed detection and response, Microsoft 365, Intune and Entra ID administration, Barracuda email filtering, Datto or Veeam backups proven by test restores, firewall and Wi-Fi management, IT Glue documentation and vendor management, with a quarterly roadmap from your account manager. All of it is remote; NetSys does not send engineers to Oahu. The help desk is staffed 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, monitoring runs 24/7 and agreements are month to month.

How managed IT is delivered in Honolulu

We run your environment from Brooklyn through the consoles your systems already expose: NinjaOne on every computer and server, Microsoft's admin centers for the tenant, and the Meraki or Fortinet cloud dashboard for the firewall, switches and access points. Nothing in the agreement depends on an engineer standing in your office, and NetSys does not send one to Hawaii. Purchasing is part of the service. We specify and order equipment, have laptops shipped already enrolled in Windows Autopilot, and send firewalls preconfigured so your office manager or cabling contractor can rack them while we check the configuration remotely. Scheduled changes such as server patching and firmware upgrades run in our early morning, which is the previous night on Oahu, so they are finished before anyone in your office logs in. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.

Mainland vendors, island hours: the coordination we take on

Almost every system a Honolulu business runs is supported from somewhere else. The EHR vendor, the hotel's property-management provider, the payroll service, the copier lessor's remote team and Microsoft itself keep mainland hours, and a vendor whose Pacific-time support line closes at 5 p.m. stops answering at 2 p.m. Honolulu time for most of the year, 3 p.m. in winter. Managed IT moves that coordination onto us. We hold vendor contacts, contract numbers and renewal dates in IT Glue, open and chase cases in the vendor's morning, and sit in on escalation calls that would otherwise land at an awkward hour for your staff. When an internet circuit fails, we work the trouble ticket with your carrier until service returns. Each quarter the account manager reviews renewals coming due, warranty dates and licenses you pay for but no longer use.

What managed IT looks like for Honolulu's main industries

Honolulu's economy concentrates in a few sectors, and each one shapes the plan. Hospitals and practices, led by The Queen's Health Systems and Hawaii Pacific Health as the state's two largest private employers, put their affiliated clinics and billing offices under the HIPAA Security Rule. Hotels in Waikiki and at Ko Olina need guest Wi-Fi kept apart from the property-management system and card terminals under PCI DSS. Bishop Street banks, insurers and the firms that serve them answer to examiners and, for insurance licensees, Hawaii's insurance data security law. Contractors supporting Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam handle controlled unclassified information that needs its own enclave. Property managers run owner portals and payment platforms, and builders work from project-management and estimating software on job-site tablets. We record which rules and vendors apply during onboarding, so the roadmap reflects your industry rather than a generic checklist.

Designing for Oahu's grid, cables and storms

An island environment needs a few things a mainland office can skip. Oahu's grid stands alone, and on January 8, 2024 rotating blackouts reached about 120,000 Hawaiian Electric customers after generation fell short, so we size battery backup for the firewall, switches and any remaining server and configure clean shutdowns. Traffic bound for Microsoft 365 or cloud backup crosses undersea fiber to mainland data centers, so a local backup appliance handles fast restores while replicated copies sit off the island. Storms add their own stress: the March 2026 Kona lows produced federal disaster DR-4909, with Honolulu County among the areas designated. A second internet circuit from a different carrier or a Starlink Business terminal, laptops instead of desktops and Microsoft 365 files available offline let the office keep working from home when roads close. Hawaiian Telcom and Spectrum Business are the wired options to check at your address.

The first 30 days with NetSys in Honolulu

Days one to ten are assessment. With read-only access we review the Microsoft 365 tenant, firewall, backups and licenses, the NinjaOne agent inventories every machine, and we interview whoever has been holding IT together, often an office manager or the owner. By around day twelve you receive a written plan listing what we will change, in what order, with costs and the monthly fee. The cutover follows: ThreatDown goes onto every endpoint, Conditional Access enforces multifactor sign-in, Barracuda starts filtering mail, Keeper replaces the shared password spreadsheet and a restore proves the backups. Vendor contacts and circuit IDs move into IT Glue, and the previous provider's access is removed once handover is complete. Before day 30 your account manager books the first quarterly review, timed for a Honolulu morning, which is early afternoon in Brooklyn.

Published case study

Law office: Microsoft 365 with layered security and cloud-to-cloud backup

A 25-attorney firm in the greater New York metro was losing unbillable hours to an outdated file server and an email server that needed weekly attention. NetSys mapped the firm's matters and document workflows first, moved email to Exchange Online and documents to SharePoint and OneDrive in a matter-based structure over a weekend cut-over, layered anti-phishing protection, DNS filtering, multifactor authentication and endpoint protection across attorney devices, and set independent cloud-to-cloud backup of the whole tenant. The firm reported 82% fewer IT support incidents per month within two quarters and about 3.5 hours per attorney per week recovered from IT friction.

What managed IT costs in Honolulu

Managed IT is priced per user per month for a fully managed agreement, and the number moves with four things more than with headcount: how many servers you run, whether you need after-hours coverage beyond monitoring, how much compliance documentation you carry, and whether we are co-managing alongside an internal person or running everything. We quote from an assessment, not a phone call, and the agreement runs month to month. What belongs in the monthly fee versus what is billed separately is set out on our managed IT pricing page.

How the monthly fee is built

Who this fits, and who it does not

Best fit: 10 to 75 employees, one or two offices plus remote staff, already on Microsoft 365 or ready to move there, and either no internal IT or one person who is underwater.

Common Questions

Managed IT Services in Honolulu: FAQs

How does managed IT work for Honolulu organizations?

Remotely and in full. Our engineers own the help desk, security, patching, Microsoft 365, backups, the network and vendor management, using NinjaOne, cloud firewall dashboards and Microsoft's admin centers. Equipment ships preconfigured, and your staff or a contractor connects it while an engineer verifies it. NetSys sends no engineers on site in Hawaii. Ransomware, systems down, no internet or failed email reach your dedicated engineer at any hour, and the account manager meets you by video every quarter.

How much do managed IT services cost in Honolulu, HI?

There is no published price. The per-user monthly fee comes from an assessment and moves with servers still on premises, the number of sites, compliance evidence for HIPAA, PCI DSS or a defense contract, and coverage needed outside staffed hours. Island-specific items such as a second carrier, a Starlink Business backup, a local backup appliance and freight for hardware are quoted separately, along with licensing and projects. Headcount matters less than people expect: a small clinic with heavy compliance needs can cost more per user than a larger office with simple ones.

What is included in a managed IT plan for a business in Honolulu, HI?

The help desk with engineers on the line; NinjaOne monitoring and patching for Windows, macOS and common applications; ThreatDown detection and response on every device; Microsoft 365, Intune and Entra ID administration; Barracuda email protection and KnowBe4 training; Keeper for passwords; Datto or Veeam backups with scheduled restore tests; firewall, switch and Wi-Fi management; IT Glue documentation; and every call to your carriers and software vendors. Critical issues carry a ten-minute phone and thirty-minute remote response commitment, and a dedicated account manager with a real cell number runs quarterly reviews.

Can you take over from our current Honolulu IT provider?

Yes. A transition starts with a request to the outgoing provider for admin credentials, domain and DNS access, firewall configuration, backup schedules and license records. We document everything they hand over, check it against what our agent finds, and change every administrative password once we hold control. Two to four weeks of overlap is normal, and the old provider's tools come off only after ours are working. If the handover stalls, we can usually recover access through Microsoft and the domain registrar with your authorization.

Which Hawaii rules shape a managed IT plan?

HRS 487N requires notice to affected residents without unreasonable delay after a breach, with written notice to the State Office of Consumer Protection when more than 1,000 people are notified at once, and HRS 487R covers disposal of records. Insurance licensees must keep a written information security program under HRS 431:3B-201 and notify the commissioner within three business days of a qualifying event. HIPAA, PCI DSS and DFARS apply by industry. We map each to controls and evidence. This is general information, not legal advice.
