IT Services & Cybersecurity in Honolulu, HI
Honolulu runs on Waikiki hotels, Bishop Street banks, hospitals from Punchbowl Street to Moanalua and a defense economy centered on Pearl Harbor. NetSys is an IT company that gives Honolulu organizations managed IT, help desk support, cybersecurity and IT consulting from one engineering team, delivered entirely remotely from Brooklyn under month-to-month agreements.
The short answer
NetSys is a managed IT and cybersecurity company that supports Honolulu organizations remotely. One agreement can cover engineers on the help desk, ThreatDown managed detection and response on every device, Microsoft 365 and Intune administration, Meraki or Fortinet firewall management, restore-tested backups and project work such as retiring an old server. We do not send engineers on site anywhere on Oahu: laptops arrive enrolled through Windows Autopilot, and your staff or cabling contractor connects other equipment while an engineer checks it remotely. The help desk is staffed from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, which ends in the late afternoon or early evening in Honolulu, and monitoring runs 24/7. Pricing is per user per month after an assessment.
- One office, in Brooklyn, NY; Honolulu and the rest of Oahu are served remotely, and NetSys sends no engineers on site in Hawaii
- Laptops ship enrolled in Intune and Windows Autopilot; firewalls arrive configured for your staff or contractor to connect
- Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time
- Month-to-month agreements and 98% client retention
What an IT company handles for a Honolulu business
Most Honolulu firms looking for an IT company want one accountable team in place of a part-time technician, a copier vendor and a relative who knows networks. NetSys takes the whole job. Engineers answer the help desk, patch every computer through NinjaOne, run ThreatDown on each endpoint, administer Microsoft 365, Intune and Entra ID, filter mail with Barracuda and back up servers and cloud data with Datto or Veeam, restoring samples to prove the copies work. We manage the firewall, switches and Wi-Fi from the cloud and keep the documentation in IT Glue, where it remains yours. Island businesses buy nearly everything from mainland vendors, so much of the work is chasing them: the software company on Pacific time whose support line closes at 2 or 3 p.m. Honolulu time, the carrier with a ticket open, the hardware maker's repair depot. A dedicated account manager with a real cell number reviews renewals, aging hardware and projects with you every quarter.
How remote support reaches Oahu from Brooklyn
Every Honolulu engagement is remote, and that is the only way we work in Hawaii. Engineers reach your computers through the NinjaOne agent, your tenant through Microsoft's admin centers and your firewall through its cloud dashboard. Hardware moves by shipment: replacement laptops come from the supplier already registered to your tenant and build themselves at first sign-in, and a new firewall arrives configured for an office manager or a local cabling contractor to plug in while we bring it up remotely. Freight to the islands is slower than within the mainland, so we suggest one enrolled spare laptop in the office. The clock matters too. Hawaii stays on standard time all year, so it sits six hours behind New York while the mainland observes daylight saving time and five hours behind in winter. Our staffed desk therefore closes at 5 p.m. Honolulu time from March to early November and at 6 p.m. in winter, then reopens at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. local, long before dawn.
Honolulu industries and the systems they run
Honolulu's private employers lean heavily on health care and hospitality. The State of Hawaii Data Book's ranking for 2023 puts The Queen's Health Systems first with 9,452 employees and Hawaii Pacific Health second with 7,439, with Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts, Aulani at Ko Olina and the Halekulani among the 25 largest. Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank and Central Pacific Bank also make that list, which explains the cluster of finance, law and accounting offices around Bishop Street and in Kakaako. Defense is the state's second largest industry after tourism, according to the state's defense economy office, and the Navy calls Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Hawaii's largest industrial employer. Around those anchors sit medical practices on an EHR and billing system, hotels with a property-management system tied to card payments, contractors on project-management platforms, property managers and condominium associations, and Kapolei warehouses running inventory software. We set up each environment around its applications and the vendors behind them.
Cables, power and Oahu's own grid
Remote support, Microsoft 365 and cloud backups all reach Oahu over undersea fiber. Trans-Pacific systems land on the island's west side: SEA-US at Makaha, Southern Cross at Kahe Point and Hawaiki at Kapolei. In 2024 Google announced that its Taihei cable will connect Hawaii with Japan and that its Tabua cable will be extended to the islands, which should add routes. Power is a separate constraint. Hawaii's Public Utilities Commission notes that each main island has its own grid, connected to no other, so Oahu cannot import electricity when generation runs short. On the evening of January 8, 2024, Hawaiian Electric rotated blackouts across about 120,000 Oahu customers after wind output and the H-Power plant fell off. Our designs for a Honolulu office follow from that: battery backup sized for the firewall and switches, a second internet path from a different carrier, cloud-hosted files, and backups held in mainland data centers as well as on a local appliance.
Storms, tsunami warnings and attacks on Oahu systems
Recent events show how quickly a Honolulu workday can stop. A tsunami warning issued at about 2:45 p.m. on July 29, 2025 sent people uphill through jammed streets before it was downgraded that night. In March 2026 two Kona low storms flooded neighborhoods across the island, and on March 20 the city ordered more than 4,000 people in Waialua and Haleiwa to evacuate because the Wahiawa Dam was at risk of failing; FEMA declared disaster DR-4909 for Honolulu, Maui and Hawaii counties on April 7. Cyberattacks have hit local organizations as well. In June 2024 an intrusion at Oahu Transit Services took TheBus and Handi-Van websites down for days while staff cleaned hundreds of workstations, and in August 2025 ransomware at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center affected nearly 1.2 million people. The shared lesson is laptops that work anywhere, backups attackers cannot delete and a recovery plan rehearsed before anyone needs it.
Hawaii law and industry rules for IT
Hawaii's security breach law, HRS chapter 487N, requires a business that owns or licenses personal information of Hawaii residents to notify affected people without unreasonable delay, and a notice to more than 1,000 people at one time also goes in writing to the State Office of Consumer Protection and the nationwide consumer reporting agencies. HRS 487R-2 requires reasonable measures when personal records are disposed of, including destroying or erasing electronic media. Certain insurance licensees fall under HRS 431:3B, which requires notice to the insurance commissioner within three business days of determining that a cybersecurity event involving 250 or more consumers occurred. Clinics follow the HIPAA Security Rule, hotels and retailers answer to PCI DSS v4.0.1, and defense suppliers still owe DFARS 252.204-7012, NIST SP 800-171 and a current SPRS score while CMMC Phase 2 is suspended. This is general information, not legal advice.

Honolulu, HI FAQs
Who provides IT services to businesses in Honolulu?
Honolulu has local IT shops as well as national providers, and NetSys is one of the remote options. We are a managed IT and cybersecurity company founded in 1998, with one office in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and we serve Oahu organizations entirely over the network. One agreement can cover the help desk, security, Microsoft 365, backups, the network and vendor management, or a single project such as a tenant migration. Firms that want a technician at the door the same morning should choose a local provider; firms comfortable with remote engineering and shipped hardware get a full IT department without a long contract.
How does IT support work for Honolulu organizations?
Remotely, by phone, email and a Teams channel. Engineers in Brooklyn manage computers through the NinjaOne agent, Microsoft 365 and Intune from their admin consoles, and firewalls through cloud dashboards. The help desk is staffed from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, so in Honolulu it covers the full working day and closes at 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. depending on the season. Evening requests wait for the desk to reopen late the same night, while ransomware, systems down, no internet or failed email go straight to your dedicated engineer. NetSys does not send engineers on site in Hawaii.
How much do IT services cost for a Honolulu business?
Managed IT is priced per user per month after an assessment, and we do not publish a rate card. In Honolulu the figure moves with things that matter on an island: a second internet circuit or satellite backup, a local backup appliance in addition to cloud copies, servers still running in a closet, compliance evidence for HIPAA, PCI DSS or a defense contract, and any after-hours coverage beyond monitoring. Hardware, licensing and freight are quoted on their own. The written scope comes before any signature, and the agreement runs month to month with no early-exit penalty.
How does remote onboarding work for a business in Honolulu, HI?
It starts with a video call and read-only access to your Microsoft 365 tenant, firewall and backup console. Staff install the NinjaOne agent from an emailed link, and within two weeks we document every device, account, license, circuit and vendor and send a written plan with dates and costs. Cutover usually happens over a weekend: multifactor sign-in for everyone, ThreatDown in place of the old antivirus, Barracuda in front of the mailboxes and a first restore test. Because Brooklyn is five or six hours ahead, much of that work runs in the New York early morning, which is late evening in Honolulu, after your staff have gone home.
What happens if an undersea cable or Oahu's power grid fails?
Work slows but should not stop. Oahu has several trans-Pacific cable landings, so carriers have other routes when one cable fails, although capacity can be tighter while it is repaired. A local outage is the more common problem: a cut fiber on your street or a rotating blackout like January 2024's. For those we pair a second carrier or a Starlink Business terminal with battery backup for network gear, and staff keep working from cached sign-ins and OneDrive files synced offline. If every path into your office is down, we cannot reach those systems either, and we say so plainly; laptops on a phone hotspot can still reach Microsoft 365.
Can you also support our offices on Maui, Kauai or Hawaii Island?
Yes, under the same agreement and the same remote model. Neighbor-island offices join the Honolulu office's Microsoft 365 tenant, Intune policies and firewall dashboard, and branch firewalls can link back over site-to-site VPN or SD-WAN. The differences are practical: inter-island freight adds time to hardware swaps, and the neighbor islands still depend on aging inter-island cables, so a backup path for each site matters more than it does in town. Our Hawaii page covers the statewide picture, including the Hawaiian Islands Fiber Link, now expected in 2027.
Do you work with defense contractors near Pearl Harbor and Camp Smith?
Yes, remotely. Contractors that handle controlled unclassified information for commands at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Camp H.M. Smith or Schofield Barracks still owe DFARS 252.204-7012, the 110 requirements of NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2 and a current SPRS score. On July 13, 2026 the Department of War suspended CMMC Phase 2, so third-party Level 2 certification is not yet a condition of award, but Level 1 and Level 2 self-assessments remain in force. We build a separate enclave for controlled data, map each control to evidence and keep the score current.
