Denver's investment firms, lenders, family offices and private equity teams answer to examiners, limited partners and insurers who keep asking the same thing: show us your controls. The short answer

Denver investment advisers, broker-dealers, private equity and venture funds, family offices and lenders get IT support and cybersecurity from NetSys under one agreement: a help desk answered by engineers, management of Microsoft 365 and every device, multifactor authentication, ThreatDown managed detection and response, email security, archiving, tested backups and the written procedures Colorado's securities rules and SEC Regulation S-P expect. The service is remote, and no NetSys engineer is ever sent on site in Colorado. The desk is staffed from 2 a.m., Mountain time, to 9 p.m. on all seven days, well before the opening bell, and the monthly fee per user follows an assessment.

Denver's financial sector and what it expects from IT

Finance is a large employer along the Front Range. Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation counted 102,780 financial services jobs in 2024, including 23,950 in investments, where the average wage was $222,790, and it lists Charles Schwab and Wells Fargo among the companies with major corporate offices in the region. Denver also has a U.S. Mint and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's Denver Branch, and TIAA is closing its downtown Denver operations in 2026, which the EDC says affects 1,000 employees. Around those institutions is a layer of smaller firms: registered investment advisers on 17th Street, private equity and venture teams in LoDo and Boulder, family offices in Cherry Creek and mortgage and commercial lenders in the Tech Center. Many of them are small, with no full-time IT staff, yet they face the same due-diligence questionnaires, cyber insurance applications and regulatory examinations as much larger firms. Our job is to run the controls those documents describe and keep the evidence ready, so a questionnaire takes an afternoon instead of a week.

How remote support works for a Denver financial firm

NetSys supports Denver firms entirely remotely, and we state that plainly in the proposal: no engineer of ours will come to your office. Laptops and desktops for traders, advisers and analysts go through Windows Autopilot before they ship, arriving with multi-monitor settings, market-data applications and secure browser policies in place. Docking stations, monitors and conference-room equipment are plugged in by your staff or your building's contractor with an engineer on the phone. Because Brooklyn is two hours ahead, patching and overnight checks are finished long before the market opens at 7:30 a.m. Mountain, and the help desk is already staffed. Problems that threaten trading, client service or a wire, such as a failed internet circuit, a compromised mailbox or ransomware, skip the queue and go to your dedicated engineer, while 24/7 monitoring watches identities and endpoints overnight.

Wire fraud, impersonation and investor questionnaires

The losses that hurt small financial firms most often begin with an impersonated email: a client asking to change wiring instructions, a fund administrator with new bank details or a partner who urgently needs a transfer approved. We reduce that risk with Barracuda filtering, DMARC enforcement on your domains, number-matching multifactor authentication, Conditional Access that blocks sign-ins from unmanaged devices, and a written callback procedure for any change to payment instructions. Privileged accounts are separated from daily ones and reviewed monthly. KnowBe4 training and phishing simulations run every quarter with results kept for examiners. When a limited partner or allocator sends a due-diligence questionnaire, we draft the technology and security answers from the controls actually running and attach the evidence, such as policy documents, test restore records and vulnerability scans from Rapid7 InsightVM.

Recordkeeping, archiving and continuity planning

Financial regulators expect communications and records to be retained and retrievable, so we configure Microsoft 365 retention policies and archiving to the schedules your compliance officer sets, block unapproved messaging tools on managed devices, and test that a search for a client name actually returns what an examiner would ask for. Backups of mail, files and any on-premises databases are kept independently of Microsoft, with an immutable copy outside Colorado. Continuity planning in Denver has to account for weather: the April 2024 wind event and Xcel Energy's first public safety power shutoff left more than 150,000 customers without power across nine counties, and insurers paid out about $2.3 billion after the May 2017 hailstorm. With systems in the cloud and staff on managed laptops, a firm can trade, approve wires and serve clients from home while the office is dark.

The rules that apply

Rules that apply to Denver financial firms

Colorado securities cybersecurity rules (Rules 51-4.8 and 51-4.14(IA))

Since July 15, 2017, broker-dealers and investment advisers doing business in Colorado must keep written procedures reasonably designed to ensure cybersecurity and include cybersecurity in their risk assessments. To the extent reasonably possible, the procedures should cover an annual risk assessment, secure and encrypted email for confidential personal information, authentication for employee access and procedures to authenticate client instructions received electronically.

SEC Regulation S-P (amended 2024)

SEC-registered advisers, broker-dealers, funds and transfer agents need a written incident response program, oversight of service providers and notice to affected individuals no later than 30 days after becoming aware of unauthorized access to sensitive customer information. Larger entities had to comply by December 3, 2025 and smaller ones, including advisers with less than $1.5 billion under management, by June 3, 2026.

Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the FTC Safeguards Rule

Mortgage brokers, non-bank lenders, finance companies and other financial institutions outside the bank regulators' reach fall under the FTC Safeguards Rule, which requires a written information security program, a Qualified Individual, encryption, multifactor authentication and, since May 13, 2024, a report to the FTC within 30 days of discovering a notification event involving 500 or more consumers.

Colorado SB26-189 on automated decisions

Signed on May 14, 2026, this law replaced Colorado's 2024 AI act with rules for automated decision-making technology used in consequential decisions, including lending and financial services. From January 1, 2027, deployers must give consumers notice and explain adverse outcomes, and developers and deployers must keep compliance records for at least three years. Common Questions

Financial Services Firms in Denver: FAQs

Who provides IT support for financial services firms in Denver?

NetSys supports Denver investment advisers, broker-dealers, private equity and venture firms, family offices and lenders remotely from our Brooklyn office. One agreement covers the help desk, devices, Microsoft 365, security monitoring, archiving, backups and the vendors behind them, plus the written procedures and evidence your examiners and investors ask for. You deal with one account manager who answers a real cell phone, the engineers carry Cisco and Microsoft certifications, and the agreement is month to month.

How does IT support work for financial firms in Denver?

Traders, advisers and operations staff get an engineer by phone, email or Teams any day of the week from 2 a.m., Mountain time, to 9 p.m., so the desk is open long before the market. Devices are managed through NinjaOne and Intune, identities through Entra ID with Conditional Access, and the firewall through its cloud console, which means every repair is remote and nobody is sent to Denver. New equipment ships configured, and severe incidents go directly to your dedicated engineer.

What does IT support cost for a financial services firm in Denver?

Managed IT is a per-user monthly fee, set once we have assessed the firm, and there is no published rate. For a Denver financial firm the figure depends on headcount, the number of devices and monitors per person, whether you run any servers, the archiving and retention requirements your regulator sets, the security tools included and how much compliance documentation and questionnaire support you want. Projects such as a tenant migration are quoted after scoping. Agreements run month to month.

Does NYDFS Part 500 apply to a Denver firm?

Only if the firm, or an affiliate, holds a license, registration or charter from the New York Department of Financial Services, such as a New York insurance, lending or money-transmitter license. A Denver adviser or lender without one is not covered by 23 NYCRR Part 500, although its requirements are a useful benchmark and some investors ask about them. For firms that do hold a New York license, we run the Part 500 program, including the risk assessment, multifactor authentication, asset inventory and annual certification evidence.

Can you help us answer investor and LP due-diligence questionnaires?

Yes. Limited partners, allocators and insurers ask detailed questions about access control, encryption, incident response, vendor management and backups. We draft the technology and security sections from the controls we actually manage for you, attach supporting evidence such as policies, scan summaries and restore test records, and flag any question where the honest answer is not yet yes, along with the work needed to change it. Keeping those answers current is part of the agreement, not a separate project.

Do you support market-data terminals and our portfolio systems?

We support the workstations, networks, identities and connections those systems depend on, and we work directly with the vendors when their application or feed is at fault. That includes multi-monitor trading desks, secure access to custodian and portfolio-management portals, single sign-on where vendors allow it, and network rules that keep market-data traffic flowing. We do not resell financial software or data subscriptions, so our advice about them is about security and reliability.
