Medical Practice IT Support in Denver, CO
A Denver physician office runs on a front desk that checks patients in on time, a referral inbox someone actually watches, prescriptions that sign on the first attempt and a patient portal people can log in to. NetSys supports doctor's offices and physician practices across Denver remotely from Brooklyn, with HIPAA paperwork and Colorado's own rules built into the setup.
The short answer
NetSys provides IT support for Denver medical practices: a help desk for front-desk, billing and clinical staff, Microsoft 365 and Intune device management, ThreatDown endpoint protection, encrypted laptops, tested backups of the data the practice controls, and a HIPAA Security Rule risk analysis with evidence behind every answer. We run the infrastructure around your EHR and take the technical side of its vendor tickets. Everything is remote and cloud-based, and NetSys does not send engineers on site in Denver. Engineers answer the help desk from 2 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mountain time every day, monitoring and emergency response never stop, and pricing is per user per month.

What changes for a Denver physician practice
An independent Denver practice sits inside a referral web spun by a few large systems. Denver Health is the city's safety-net system and runs a Level I trauma center; Intermountain Health Saint Joseph Hospital ranks among the state's top hospitals; HCA HealthONE operates hospitals across the metro; and UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital and Children's Hospital Colorado share the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. Most physician offices trade referrals, imaging results and records requests with several of them every week, and many also exchange data through Contexture, the regional health information exchange created when Colorado's CORHIO joined Arizona's Health Current in 2021. Each of those links is an account, an interface or an inbox that someone has to secure and watch. Colorado has already seen how patient data escapes through a partner rather than the practice. In 2023 the state Department of Health Care Policy and Financing reported that files on a MOVEit transfer server used by its contractor IBM had been accessed around May 28, affecting about 4.1 million people. Our work for a Denver office therefore starts with a list of every outside party that receives patient data from you, and how.
Remote support for a Denver practice, and what stays with your staff
All NetSys support for Denver practices is delivered remotely; we do not send technicians to clinics there. Engineers in Brooklyn patch and watch exam-room PCs through NinjaOne, enforce encryption and screen locks through Intune, administer Microsoft 365 and respond to ThreatDown detections. Because the help desk opens at 2 a.m. Mountain, a printer or sign-in problem reported before the first appointment is usually fixed before patients arrive. New workstations ship from the supplier already enrolled through Windows Autopilot, so a medical assistant signs in and the practice's applications appear. Card scanners, label printers and signature pads are set up with your office manager on a video call, and a local cabling contractor of your choosing handles any new wall jacks. Your EHR vendor keeps responsibility for the application itself; we work the network, identity and device side of each ticket with them so the front desk is not passed between two help desks.
Front desk, referrals, e-prescribing and the patient portal
Four workflows carry a physician office, and each has an IT dependency. The front desk needs check-in PCs, insurance-card scanners and printers that work at 7:30 in the morning. Referrals need an electronic fax inbox with a named owner, plus encrypted email for records leaving the practice. Prescribing has a Colorado rule behind it: since July 1, 2021, C.R.S. 12-30-111 has required most prescribers to send Schedule II, III and IV prescriptions electronically, with exceptions that include a technological or electrical failure. Federal rules in 21 CFR part 1311 add two-factor signing for controlled substances, so we keep each prescriber's hard token or authenticator enrollment current and replace a lost one before the next clinic day. The patient portal needs identity checks on new accounts, and staff need a written process for proxy access when a parent or caregiver asks.
Hail, wind shutoffs and a clearinghouse outage
Clinic days in Denver get lost to weather and to other people's outages as often as to attackers. The May 8, 2017 hailstorm became the costliest insured catastrophe in Colorado history, at about $2.3 billion, most of it in auto and homeowner claims. On April 6, 2024, Xcel Energy cut power to about 55,000 customers along the Front Range, including parts of the west Denver metro, to reduce wildfire risk during high winds. In February 2024 the ransomware attack on Change Healthcare stalled claims and pharmacy processing for practices nationwide. Continuity for a Denver practice means an EHR reachable from any internet connection, a cellular backup circuit on the firewall, UPS units on front-desk PCs and the network rack, printed downtime forms for check-in and prescribing, nightly off-site copies of practice-controlled data, and a second clearinghouse your billing staff have tested.

Compliance rules for Denver medical practices
HIPAA Security Rule risk analysis
A covered practice must carry out an accurate and thorough assessment of the risks to the electronic protected health information it holds (45 CFR 164.308(a)(1)(ii)(A)) and manage those risks with documented safeguards. We run the analysis against your real systems, tie each finding to a fix with an owner and date, and keep the evidence a reviewer will request. HHS published a proposed Security Rule update on January 6, 2025; it is still a proposal, not current law.
Colorado breach notice: 30 days, not 60
Colorado requires notice to affected residents within 30 days after a breach is determined, notice to the Attorney General when 500 or more Colorado residents are affected, and notice to the national consumer reporting agencies above 1,000. Medical information and health insurance ID numbers are covered. The Attorney General's guidance says a HIPAA-regulated practice must still meet Colorado's 30-day timeframe, even where HIPAA would allow up to 60 days.
Electronic prescribing of controlled substances
C.R.S. 12-30-111 requires Schedule II to IV prescriptions to be sent electronically, with the July 1, 2023 date applying to dentists, rural prescribers and one-prescriber practices. When the system is down, a paper or phone prescription relies on the technological-failure exception, so we keep an outage log that shows when and why electronic prescribing was unavailable.
Colorado Privacy Act
The Colorado Privacy Act took effect July 1, 2023 and reaches controllers that process the personal data of 100,000 Colorado consumers in a year, or 25,000 while earning revenue from selling data. It does not apply to data maintained under HIPAA, so most independent practices sit outside it; a larger group with marketing or website data outside the medical record should check with counsel. Medical Practices in Denver: FAQs
Who provides IT support for medical practices in Denver?
NetSys does, remotely, from its only office in Brooklyn, NY. The firm was founded in 1998; its engineers studied electrical engineering, electronics engineering or computer science and carry Cisco and Microsoft certifications. For a Denver practice we provide the help desk, device and Microsoft 365 management, ThreatDown endpoint protection, backups and the HIPAA documentation behind them. Each practice gets a dedicated account manager with a real cell number, and agreements run month to month.
How does IT support work for Denver medical practices?
It is all remote and cloud-based. Staff reach the help desk by phone, email or Teams from 2 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mountain, seven days a week, and monitoring and emergency service run around the clock. A critical issue gets a phone response within ten minutes and remote work within thirty. NetSys does not send engineers on site in Denver: new PCs ship configured through Windows Autopilot, and any cabling is done by a local contractor you choose while an engineer confirms each device online.
What does IT support cost for a physician practice in Denver?
Practices pay per user per month, at a rate set after a short assessment rather than from a published price list. The figure moves with the number of providers and workstations, whether an EHR or imaging server lives in the office, how many locations you run, the after-hours coverage you need beyond monitoring and how much HIPAA documentation we maintain. Hardware, licensing and one-off projects such as moving a server to the cloud are quoted separately. There is no long-term contract; the agreement renews month to month.
How do you help a Denver practice complete its HIPAA Security Rule risk analysis?
We start with an inventory: every device, account, application and outside party that touches patient data. Then we test the safeguards that exist, such as multifactor sign-in, disk encryption, audit logging, backup restores and access removal when staff leave, and record what is missing. The result is a written risk analysis with each risk rated, an owner and a date for every fix, and evidence attached. We update it when something material changes, such as a new location or a new EHR module.
Do you support our EHR and practice-management software?
We support everything around it. That covers the workstations and browsers staff use to reach a hosted EHR, the server and its backups if the system runs in your office, single sign-on and multifactor access, printer and scanner integration, and the network path to the vendor. When a problem sits inside the application, we open the ticket with the vendor, give them the technical detail they ask for and stay on it until it is closed, so your staff are not caught in between.
What happens to e-prescribing if our internet goes down?
The firewall fails over to a cellular backup circuit, so most outages pass without prescribers noticing. If electronic prescribing is truly unavailable, Colorado's law allows an exception for technological or electrical failure, and we log the outage with times and cause so the practice can show why a prescription went out another way. We also check each prescriber's two-factor token or authenticator ahead of time, because a lost token is a more common cause of a stalled prescription than the internet is.
