IT Services and Cybersecurity in Utah
Utah businesses from Logan to St. George run on Microsoft 365, cloud software and networks that have to ride out winter storms, wildfire smoke and the Wasatch Fault. NetSys handles that work for them, from help desk tickets and endpoint security to backups, vendor calls and the compliance file, with a remote team in Brooklyn two time zones east.
The short answer
NetSys is an IT services company serving Utah organizations statewide, entirely through remote and cloud tools. Under one agreement our engineers answer your staff's tickets, keep computers patched and covered by ThreatDown, administer Microsoft 365, look after the firewall and Wi-Fi, restore-test the backups and deal with your vendors, and we take on consulting and security projects when you need them. No engineer is sent on site in Utah; laptops are shipped pre-enrolled and your own staff or contractor installs network hardware. The desk is staffed 2 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mountain daily, monitoring never stops, and managed IT is a per-user monthly fee set after an assessment, with month-to-month terms.
- One office, in Brooklyn, NY; Utah is supported remotely from Logan to St. George, and NetSys does not send engineers on site in the state
- Laptops are enrolled in Intune and Windows Autopilot before they ship; network equipment arrives configured for your staff or cabling contractor to install
- Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time (2 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mountain)
- Month-to-month agreements and 98% client retention
IT services we deliver across Utah
Utah's economy is broad, and its largest employers show it. The state's count of 2024 employment is led by Intermountain Health, the University of Utah, the State of Utah and Walmart, followed by Brigham Young University, Hill Air Force Base and Northrop Grumman, with Zions Bancorporation, America First and Mountain America credit unions, ARUP Laboratories, BioFire Diagnostics, Merit Medical Systems, Delta Air Lines and SkyWest further down the list. Around them work the smaller firms this service is built for: physician groups and dental offices, defense subcontractors, lenders and advisers, distributors and software startups. NetSys gives them one IT provider covering the help desk, every laptop and phone, Microsoft 365, mail filtering, ThreatDown endpoint protection, a Keeper vault, backups, the firewall and Wi-Fi, and the calls to carriers and software vendors, with consulting on top for a server replacement, an office move or a cloud migration.
How remote onboarding works anywhere in Utah
Utah stretches from Logan near the Idaho line to St. George near the Arizona border, and the service works the same at both ends because none of it depends on travel. That also means no visits: NetSys does not put engineers on site in Utah, and the proposal says so in writing. Discovery is a call plus a remote inventory. Our engineers then review the Microsoft 365 tenant, document vendors and circuits, enroll laptops in Intune and roll out security tools in stages, typically over three to four weeks for a 20-person office. Replacement computers go by courier to the office or to remote staff in Park City or Cedar City, and Windows Autopilot completes the setup at first sign-in. Network gear ships configured, gets mounted by your office manager or a low-voltage contractor, and is brought online by our engineer remotely. With Utah two hours behind Brooklyn, maintenance runs after your staff have gone home.
Industries we serve in Utah
Health care leads the state's employer list, with Intermountain Health first and the University of Utah, which runs its own health system, second, and the physician groups, labs and dental offices around them work under the HIPAA Security Rule. Aerospace and defense center on Hill Air Force Base, and the state's economic office lists Boeing, Lockheed Martin, L3Harris and Northrop Grumman among the companies present; their suppliers handle Controlled Unclassified Information under NIST SP 800-171. Finance runs deep in Salt Lake City, where, in 2019, industrial banks based in Utah accounted for roughly 93.5 percent of all industrial-bank assets nationwide, alongside credit unions, lenders and advisers. Life sciences accounted for 182,383 direct and indirect jobs in 2022, according to the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, and BioUtah, the industry association, says the state ranks eighth nationally in medical-device production. Software firms cluster along the Silicon Slopes corridor from Lehi to Provo. We support each industry's core system generically and manage everything around it.
Internet carriers and office buildings across the state
Carrier choice varies more in Utah than in many states. Along the Wasatch Front, the incumbent wired networks belong to Comcast Business and Lumen. GFiber, which began in Provo in 2013 by buying the city's iProvo network, now lists Provo, Logan and the Salt Lake Valley as service areas. UTOPIA Fiber, the open-access network built for its member cities, reported more than 67,000 subscribers across 20 member cities in April 2026, among them Orem, Layton, Murray, West Valley City and Brigham City, where businesses choose among the providers on it. Rural counties have fewer options, and some offices depend on a single circuit. We check what each carrier actually delivers at the suite, design for two providers where the building and budget allow, and otherwise fall back to a cellular modem on the firewall. Treat every carrier named here as an option to verify at your address.
Earthquakes, windstorms, floods and Utah cyber incidents
Utah's disaster record shapes every recovery plan we write. The 2020 Magna earthquake, magnitude 5.7, shut Salt Lake City International Airport for hours, and the state's earthquake working group gives the Wasatch Front a 43 percent chance of a magnitude 6.75 or larger quake in the next 50 years. That September a windstorm with a 112 mph gust at the University of Utah cut power to a peak of more than 200,000 customers of Rocky Mountain Power, according to the utility's report to the Public Service Commission. Spring runoff in 2023 brought federal disaster declaration DR-4752 for Iron, Morgan, Sanpete, Utah and Wasatch counties. The cyber record is just as useful: the University of Utah paid $457,059 after a 2020 ransomware attack, the PowerSchool breach reached several Utah school districts in early 2025, and in August 2025 a ransomware group posted more than 2 million Box Elder County files. So we keep company data in the cloud, store backup copies outside Utah and set people up to work from any laptop, wherever they are.
Utah data-security and privacy law in plain terms
Utah Code 13-44, the Protection of Personal Information Act, covers a person's name paired with a Social Security number, a driver license or state ID number, or a financial account number with the code needed to use it. A business holding that data must keep reasonable procedures against misuse and destroy records it no longer keeps by shredding, erasing or making them indecipherable, and a company storing such data for someone else must alert the owner immediately after a breach when misuse is likely. The Attorney General enforces the chapter and can seek civil penalties. The Utah Consumer Privacy Act, effective December 31, 2023, exempts nonprofits, HIPAA covered entities and business associates, financial institutions under Gramm-Leach-Bliley and institutions of higher education, and applies only above $25 million in revenue; since July 1, 2026 it also gives consumers a right to correct their data. Utah Code 78B-4-701 to 706, enacted in 2021, offers a defense to certain breach claims for a written program built on a recognized framework. This is general information, not legal advice.

Utah FAQs
Who provides IT services for businesses in Utah?
Utah has IT shops in every metro, statewide providers and remote managed IT firms such as NetSys. We are a fit for businesses that want engineers rather than a call center: our team holds electrical engineering, electronics engineering and computer science degrees and Cisco and Microsoft certifications, every client gets a dedicated account manager reachable on a real cell number, terms are month to month and client retention is 98 percent, with a history going back to 1998. The trade-off: there is no NetSys office in Utah and nobody is sent on site, so the model works best when mail, files and core applications already run in the cloud.
How does IT support work for Utah organizations?
Remotely and through the cloud. A phone call, email or Teams message opens a ticket, and an engineer joins the user's session and works the problem with them watching; engineers are on the desk from 2 a.m. until 9 p.m. Mountain every day of the week. Monitoring, patching and emergency response run around the clock, so ransomware or a server failure at night still reaches an engineer. New laptops ship enrolled in Intune and Autopilot, network gear arrives configured, and your staff or contractor handles anything physical. NetSys has one office, in Brooklyn, NY.
What services does NetSys offer to Utah businesses?
Four core services: managed IT, where we run the entire environment for a monthly per-user fee; IT support, focused on the help desk, devices and accounts; cybersecurity, built on ThreatDown MDR, Barracuda mail filtering, enforced multifactor sign-in, Rapid7 scanning and KnowBe4 phishing training; and IT consulting for assessments, migrations, office moves and written security programs. Specialist work includes CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 preparation for defense suppliers, HIPAA safeguards for practices, Microsoft 365 and Azure projects, backup and disaster recovery, and Copilot rollouts. Each Utah service page linked below explains one of these in detail.
How much does managed IT cost in Utah?
There is no published rate: NetSys quotes managed IT per user per month once an assessment shows what you run. Server count, the number of locations, compliance evidence such as HIPAA or CUI documentation, after-hours work beyond the emergency line and whether you keep an in-house IT person move the figure more than headcount does. Projects, hardware and licensing get their own quotes. Terms are month to month, and our managed IT pricing page breaks down what the monthly fee includes.
Can you support offices in more than one Utah city?
Yes. Multi-site firms are a good fit because the service never depended on being close to any one office. A company with headquarters in Salt Lake City, a branch in Ogden and a clinic or yard in St. George gets a single tenant for mail and files, shared sign-in rules, firewall settings deployed from one template and the same help desk number at every location. Each site's carriers, circuits and equipment are documented separately so outages are handled quickly, and the quarterly review covers every location together.
Do you work with defense contractors near Hill Air Force Base?
Yes, remotely. Suppliers in Davis and Weber counties that receive Controlled Unclassified Information still have to meet the DFARS 252.204-7012 clause and the Revision 2 controls of NIST SP 800-171, complete Level 1 or Level 2 self-assessments and keep an SPRS score and affirmation current. That holds even though CMMC Phase 2 third-party certification was suspended on July 13, 2026, with Phases 3 and 4 paused while the program is reviewed. We scope CUI to a defined enclave of accounts, devices and storage, enforce multifactor sign-in, encryption and logging there, and keep the self-assessment evidence current in case certification returns.
Can we see what NetSys finds before we sign anything?
Yes, through the only free service NetSys offers: an external penetration test. With your written authorization and an agreed scope, an engineer probes your internet-facing systems remotely and reports, in order of risk, what an outsider could reach: open ports, exposed remote-access portals, weak VPN settings and unpatched public services. Microsoft 365 configuration, internal networks and backups are outside it; a paid assessment covers those if you decide to go ahead, and that assessment sets the per-user price.
