Cybersecurity Services in Nashville, TN
The largest health care breach in U.S. history began at a Nashville-based company, through a remote-access login without multifactor authentication. NetSys protects Nashville businesses against the same attacks with managed detection and response, locked-down Microsoft 365 sign-in, filtered email, phishing training and backups an attacker cannot delete, all monitored around the clock from Brooklyn.
The short answer
NetSys provides cybersecurity services to Nashville organizations as a managed program: ThreatDown managed detection and response on every computer and server, Microsoft Defender for Business, multifactor sign-in enforced with Entra ID Conditional Access, Barracuda email protection, KnowBe4 phishing training, Rapid7 vulnerability scanning, Keeper password management and immutable Datto or Veeam backups. Alerts are watched 24/7, and a compromised machine can be isolated at 2 a.m. The service is delivered remotely, and NetSys does not send engineers to Nashville. Billing is per user per month, on month-to-month terms.

How cybersecurity is delivered to Nashville organizations
Every control is installed and watched over the network. The ThreatDown sensor and the NinjaOne agent go onto each computer and server, Barracuda filters mail before it reaches Microsoft 365, and Conditional Access decides which devices and locations may sign in at all. When ThreatDown sees encryption behavior or a hands-on-keyboard intruder, the machine is cut off from the network remotely while the rest of the office keeps working, and the case goes to the engineer assigned to your account. NetSys has no staff in Tennessee and sends nobody on site; a replacement firewall ships preconfigured, and someone on your team plugs it in while we watch it come online. Rapid7 scans run on a schedule, and what they find gets patched rather than filed in a report. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time (3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central), seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
What the Change Healthcare attack showed Nashville
Change Healthcare, the claims and payment processor based in Nashville, was breached on February 12, 2024. UnitedHealth Group's chief executive told the Senate Finance Committee that attackers used stolen credentials on a Citrix remote-access portal that had no multifactor authentication, moved through the network, and deployed ransomware nine days later. Claims and pharmacy systems across the country were disrupted for weeks, and the company later told federal regulators that about 192.7 million people were affected. The lesson for a 30-person Nashville company matches the one for a giant: every way into your network from the internet, including VPNs, remote desktop gateways and vendor portals, must require a second factor, so a stolen password is useless on its own. We inventory those entry points in the first week and close any that lack it.
Health system breaches close to home
Change was not the only one. In July 2023, Nashville-based HCA Healthcare disclosed that data on about 11 million patients, including names, contact details, birth dates and appointment dates, had been taken from an external storage location used to format email messages and then posted online. In November 2023, Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed that a database had been compromised after an extortion group listed it, while saying no protected patient information was involved. In May 2024, ransomware at Ascension took its electronic health records offline, and some Ascension Saint Thomas hospitals in Tennessee diverted ambulances for certain cases. Small practices and billing firms connect to systems like these every day. A shared password, a vendor connection left open or a mailbox rule forwarding mail outside can make a smaller partner the way in.
Controls for Nashville offices, in order of payoff
Stolen passwords and malicious email are the usual ways in, so the controls go in that order. First, multifactor sign-in on Microsoft 365, the VPN and every vendor portal, with legacy authentication turned off. Second, ThreatDown on every endpoint with analysts behind it day and night, replacing whatever antivirus came with the laptops. Third, Barracuda in front of mail, plus SPF, DKIM and DMARC to reduce spoofing of your domain, and an alert whenever someone creates a rule that forwards or hides messages. Fourth, backups the attacker cannot delete, proven by restoring a real server and a mailbox. Fifth, KnowBe4 training with monthly simulated phishing, so staff recognize the fake supplier invoice. Rapid7 scanning and Keeper password vaults close the gaps that remain.
The first 30 days of a Nashville security program
Days one to seven: we install agents, inventory every device and account, and run the free external penetration test, a remote test of your firewall, VPN and public sign-in pages inside a scope you approve in writing. Days eight to fourteen: the old antivirus comes off as ThreatDown goes on, multifactor sign-in is switched on one department at a time, and shared logins move into Keeper vaults. Days fifteen to twenty-one: Barracuda starts filtering mail, DMARC is published in monitoring mode, and KnowBe4 sends a first simulated phish to set a baseline. Days twenty-two to thirty: we restore a server and a mailbox from immutable backup to prove recovery, then hand over a written program mapped to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, with HIPAA Security Rule safeguards flagged for health care clients. Your next cyber insurance questionnaire can be answered from that document.
Cybersecurity in Nashville: what NetSys delivers
Detection and response
- ThreatDown managed detection and response with EDR agents on every workstation, laptop and server, monitored 24/7
- Microsoft Defender for Business and Rapid7 InsightIDR telemetry from identities, email and endpoints, with a person acting on alerts
Identity and email
- Entra ID Conditional Access and multifactor authentication across Microsoft 365, with legacy authentication switched off
- Privileged access and privileged identity management so admin rights are granted just in time and removed afterwards
Exposure and recovery
- Rapid7 InsightVM vulnerability scanning on a schedule, with findings fixed rather than filed
- Cisco Meraki or Fortinet firewall management, segmentation and DNS filtering on office and remote devices
Law office: layered security on Microsoft 365 with cloud-to-cloud backup
A 25-attorney firm needed client confidences protected better than a closet server could manage. Alongside a Microsoft 365 migration, NetSys layered anti-phishing and email threat protection, DNS filtering, multifactor authentication on every account and endpoint protection across attorney devices in the office and remote, and established independent cloud-to-cloud backup of the entire tenant because the recycle bin is not a backup strategy for privileged material. The firm reported 82% fewer IT support incidents per month within two quarters.

What cybersecurity costs in Nashville
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in Nashville: FAQs
How does cybersecurity work for Nashville organizations?
It runs as a managed service from Brooklyn. Agents on each device report to ThreatDown and NinjaOne, sign-in policy lives in Entra ID, and mail passes through Barracuda first. Analysts watch alerts around the clock, and confirmed threats go to your dedicated engineer, who can isolate a computer, disable an account or block a sender remotely. Everyday questions go to the help desk, open 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central. NetSys does not send anyone to Nashville, so physical changes use equipment shipped preconfigured. A monthly report shows blocked attacks, patch levels and open risks.
How much do cybersecurity services cost in Nashville?
Security is priced per user per month, either inside a managed IT agreement or as a security-only service, and the figure comes from an assessment. It moves with the number of users, computers and servers, whether detection must also cover cloud workloads, how many email domains we protect, backup volume, and the paperwork you need, such as a HIPAA risk analysis or a privacy program aligned to NIST for the Tennessee Information Protection Act. Incident response beyond the agreement and testing past the free external penetration test are quoted separately. Terms are month to month.
Which cybersecurity requirements apply to businesses in Nashville?
It depends on what you hold. A business that owns or licenses Tennesseans' personal information must give notice within 45 days of discovering a breach under Tenn. Code § 47-18-2107, unless HIPAA or the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act governs it instead. Larger data holders fall under the Tennessee Information Protection Act from July 1, 2025. Medical practices and their business associates follow the HIPAA Security Rule; tax preparers follow the FTC Safeguards Rule and IRS Publication 4557; insurers follow Tennessee's Insurance Data Security Law. Since May 2024, a Tennessee class action over a cybersecurity event requires gross negligence or willful and wanton misconduct. This is general information, not legal advice.
What if an attack starts after the office closes?
Monitoring covers that. If ThreatDown detects ransomware behavior at midnight Central, the affected machine is isolated automatically or by an analyst, and the incident goes straight to your dedicated engineer. We confirm the scope, disable compromised accounts, preserve evidence for your insurer and counsel, and restore clean systems from immutable backups. NetSys has handled more than 30 ransomware incidents in the past three years and fully recovered every one, and clients with a disaster recovery plan already in place were working again within 24 hours.
Do you offer security-only services if we keep our current IT provider?
Yes. Some Nashville organizations have an IT person or provider they like and want security run separately. A security-only agreement covers managed detection and response, email protection, sign-in hardening, phishing training, vulnerability scanning and backup monitoring, while your team keeps the help desk and daily support. We agree in writing who patches what and who gets called first. Consulting projects are also available on their own, such as a Microsoft 365 security review, answers for a cyber insurance renewal, or a written HIPAA risk analysis.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
