Cybersecurity Services in Union County, NJ
The Township of Union school district took critical systems offline after a 2024 ransomware attack that LockBit claimed. Freight firms near Port Elizabeth, suppliers to Merck and Kenvue, and professional offices in Westfield and Summit face the same groups. NetSys watches their endpoints, accounts and email around the clock and keeps backups an attacker cannot erase.
The short answer
NetSys provides cybersecurity services in Union County, NJ: ThreatDown managed detection and response alongside Microsoft Defender for Business, multifactor sign-in under Entra ID Conditional Access, Barracuda email protection and DMARC, Keeper password management, Rapid7 InsightVM scanning, KnowBe4 phishing training and immutable Datto or Veeam backups. Alerts are watched 24/7, and engineers come on site from Brooklyn to Elizabeth, Linden, Rahway, Westfield and Summit for firewall, segmentation and incident work. How cybersecurity is delivered in Union County
Detection and response are remote and continuous. ThreatDown analysts see endpoint behavior as it happens and can disconnect a laptop from anywhere; Entra ID records every sign-in; Rapid7 scans the firewall, servers and workstations weekly. The work that needs a person on site is physical: a new firewall, separate network segments for cameras, scanners and guests, a locked-down kiosk, or an infected machine that has to be pulled and preserved. Our engineers drive out from Park Slope for it. The Elizabeth waterfront and Linden take about half an hour outside rush hour, and the Summit and Berkeley Heights office parks closer to an hour. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
Ransomware close to home
On May 14, 2024 the Township of Union school district announced that a ransomware attack had caused a significant network disruption. Critical systems were taken offline, outside consultants were brought in to restore operations, and the LockBit gang posted what it said were confidential district documents on its leak site. Schools and towns are attractive because they hold personal data and cannot afford long outages, and the same logic applies to a customs broker holding importers' tax IDs or a medical practice in Westfield holding patient records. Data theft now usually comes before encryption, so restoring from backup does not end the incident; the attacker may still publish what it took. That is why prevention and detection are the main work: a second factor on every account, alerts watched overnight, and email filtering that catches the first lure.
Freight, customs and the Coast Guard's maritime cyber rule
Port Newark-Elizabeth is the Port Authority's main container complex, and Union County takes part in Foreign Trade Zones 49 and 235. The firms around it, freight forwarders, customs brokers, truckers and warehouses, handle importers' tax IDs, bills of lading and payment instructions, and their carrier and customs portals are tempting targets for account takeover and cargo fraud. Terminal operators regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act came under a Coast Guard cybersecurity rule on July 16, 2025, which requires a cybersecurity plan and a designated cybersecurity officer. A forwarder or trucker is usually not a regulated facility itself, but it connects to systems that are, so its own accounts deserve the same discipline. We give each employee a named login with multifactor sign-in, keep shared scanners and kiosks on their own segment, and store portal credentials in Keeper.
Suppliers to Merck, Kenvue and the county's pharma headquarters
Merck consolidated its headquarters on its Rahway campus in 2023, Kenvue opened its global headquarters in Summit in March 2025, and Haleon is moving its North American headquarters to The Park in Berkeley Heights. Each relies on contract manufacturers, packaging and printing firms, staffing agencies, marketing studios and consultants, and buyers of that size typically send a vendor security questionnaire before they share data or connect systems. The questions are consistent: multifactor authentication, endpoint detection and response, encryption, patching, backup testing, incident response and staff training. We run those controls and keep the evidence in IT Glue, so a 20-person supplier can answer a long review with documents instead of guesses, and we map the answers to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework when a client asks for one.
Evidence, insurance and New Jersey's breach rules
If personal information of New Jersey residents is breached, N.J.S.A. 56:8-163 has the business report to the Division of State Police before it notifies customers, then notify affected people without unreasonable delay, and alert the national consumer reporting agencies if more than 1,000 people are notified at one time. A clean response depends on records made before the incident: sign-in logs, endpoint timelines, a map of where personal data lives and dated backup tests. We keep those records and hand them to your counsel and insurer during an incident. The same records answer the cyber-insurance renewal form, which asks about multifactor authentication, endpoint detection and response, backups and training. This is general information, not legal advice.

Law office: layered security on Microsoft 365 with cloud-to-cloud backup
A 25-attorney firm needed client confidences protected better than a closet server could manage. Alongside a Microsoft 365 migration, NetSys layered anti-phishing and email threat protection, DNS filtering, multifactor authentication on every account and endpoint protection across attorney devices in the office and remote, and established independent cloud-to-cloud backup of the entire tenant because the recycle bin is not a backup strategy for privileged material. The firm reported 82% fewer IT support incidents per month within two quarters.

What cybersecurity costs in Union County, NJ
Cybersecurity is priced per user per month when it runs as an ongoing service, and per project for an assessment or a remediation. What moves the number: how many devices and identities are in scope, how much incident remediation and recovery is needed beyond the monitoring and authorized MDR actions in scope, which compliance standard the evidence has to satisfy, and whether the Microsoft 365 tenant is already on Business Premium or the security tooling comes from us. The free external penetration test costs nothing and runs remotely before any of that. Our managed IT pricing page explains how the fee is built.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: businesses with enough people, money movement or regulated data that a breach would hurt, and no security team of their own: professional practices, healthcare groups, importers, financial firms, nonprofits and agencies holding client credentials. Companies with an internal IT person fit as a co-managed arrangement.

Cybersecurity in Union County, NJ: FAQs
Do you provide on-site cybersecurity in Union County, NJ?
Yes. Engineers come on site across Union County, from the Elizabeth waterfront and Linden to Cranford, Westfield, Summit and Berkeley Heights, to install firewalls, segment networks, lock down kiosks and Wi-Fi and handle the physical side of an incident. Monitoring, detection and patching run remotely around the clock, so protection never waits for a drive. NetSys works from one office, in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
How much do cybersecurity services cost in Union County?
Security is billed per user per month once we have assessed your environment, and there is no published rate. The fee depends on users, devices and servers, shared scanners and kiosks, the number of sites and firewalls, the questionnaires and rules you answer to, from HIPAA to a drugmaker's vendor review, and add-ons such as vCISO time or penetration testing. Incident response and firewall replacements are quoted as projects.
Which cybersecurity requirements apply to businesses in Union County, NJ?
Every business holding New Jersey residents' personal information is covered by the breach statute, N.J.S.A. 56:8-163. The New Jersey Data Privacy Act, in effect since January 15, 2025, adds a reasonable-security duty for controllers above its thresholds, nonprofits included. Medical practices near Overlook and Trinitas follow the HIPAA Security Rule, wealth managers in Summit and Westfield SEC Regulation S-P, tax preparers the FTC Safeguards Rule, and defense suppliers DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171.
Does the Coast Guard's cyber rule apply to our freight forwarding company?
Probably not directly. The rule, effective July 16, 2025, applies to U.S.-flagged vessels, Outer Continental Shelf facilities and facilities regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act, such as container terminals. A forwarder, customs broker or trucking company is usually outside that list. You still connect to regulated terminals and to carrier portals, so named logins, multifactor sign-in and protected credentials make sense whether or not a rule requires them. Your counsel can confirm your status.
What happens if we think we have been breached?
Call the help desk or your dedicated engineer at any hour; emergency service runs 24/7. We contain first, cutting affected machines off the network and locking compromised accounts, and we keep the evidence intact for the insurer. Systems come back from verified backups, and then we find and close the entry point. Our record over the last three years: more than 30 ransomware cases, all fully recovered.
See what an attacker sees before they do.
The free assessment is a remote external penetration test, limited to the information available to NetSys and the external scope we agree with you. Internal reviews and ongoing security management are scoped separately.
