Managed IT Services in Bethesda, MD
Bethesda fits corporate headquarters, federal medical campuses and hundreds of small professional offices into a few square miles around Wisconsin Avenue and Rockville Pike. NetSys is a managed service provider for the smaller ones: we take over users, devices, Microsoft 365, security, backups and vendors, and run all of it remotely from Brooklyn under one month-to-month agreement.
The short answer
NetSys provides managed IT services to Bethesda, Maryland organizations: a help desk answered by engineers, 24/7 monitoring, ThreatDown managed detection and response, Microsoft 365 and Intune administration, Barracuda email filtering, Datto or Veeam backups with restore tests and one point of contact for every technology vendor. All of it is remote and cloud-based. NetSys has no Bethesda office and sends no engineers there; computers ship preconfigured through Windows Autopilot. The fee is per user per month, set after an assessment, on an agreement that runs month to month.

How managed IT is delivered to Bethesda offices
Bethesda offices are supported entirely from Brooklyn. Engineers reach each computer through NinjaOne, manage identities and devices in Microsoft 365 and Intune, and change firewall rules from the cloud console, so a locked account in a Woodmont Triangle suite gets the same handling as one in Manhattan. No NetSys engineer comes to Bethesda, which suits the way many buildings here work anyway: landlords control the riser and the telecom room, and work inside them goes through the building engineer or an approved cabling contractor. We write that work up in advance, ship preconfigured firewalls, switches and laptops to the suite or to staff homes in Chevy Chase, Potomac or Silver Spring, and stay on the phone while the connections are made. Severe incidents go directly to your dedicated engineer. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.
Downtown towers, Rock Spring and the circuits behind them
Bethesda's offices cluster in a few places. Downtown, the Bethesda Row, Woodmont Triangle and Wisconsin Avenue blocks around the Metro station hold law, finance and association suites, and Marriott International opened its new headquarters tower at 7750 Wisconsin Avenue in 2022. The Rock Spring office park holds Lockheed Martin's headquarters at 6801 Rockledge Drive and the older buildings around it. Along Rockville Pike sit the NIH campus and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, with North Bethesda's Pike District beyond them. Montgomery County franchises three cable operators, Comcast, RCN (which now sells service as Astound) and Verizon, and Verizon Fios fiber reaches about 94 percent of Bethesda addresses, so most suites can choose between two wired carriers, with Lumen for a dedicated circuit. The catch is the building: two circuits only protect you if they enter by different paths, so we confirm that with the landlord before designing failover.
The organizations that run IT through a provider in Bethesda
The large employers here have their own IT departments; the work for an outside provider is in the offices around them. Scientific societies, health associations and nonprofits along Rockville Pike run membership and donor databases, event registration and a great deal of email. Research and consulting firms holding federal health contracts keep study data in cloud storage under contract security clauses. Real estate finance, investment and hospitality companies, the industry of Bethesda-based Marriott, Host Hotels & Resorts and Walker & Dunlop, support small corporate and fund offices that need tight financial controls. Law and wealth management practices near the Metro need a document management system, secure client portals and records that hold up to a regulator. Medical offices around Suburban Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine since 2009, run an EHR, imaging and billing systems. These companies are named for context only, and none is a NetSys client.
Outages, flash floods and a breach next door
Bethesda's disruptions tend to be short and severe. The June 29, 2012 derecho left as many as 443,000 Pepco customers without power, some for a week. On July 8, 2019, a storm dropped a record 3.41 inches at Reagan National Airport and stranded cars in waist-deep water at Massachusetts Avenue and Little Falls Parkway. In May 2021, WSSC Water, which serves Montgomery and Prince George's counties, removed ransomware from its business systems within hours, though criminals reached internal files. The case Bethesda executives know best is Marriott's. In October 2024 the FTC announced an order over three breaches between 2014 and 2020 affecting more than 344 million customers worldwide, citing weak password and access controls, patching, network segmentation, logging and multifactor authentication, while 49 states and the District of Columbia settled for $52 million. Those are the controls a managed plan should prove, for a firm of any size.
The first month, and what changes for your staff
Bethesda organizations often come to us from another provider or from one overworked employee, so the first month is about a clean handover. Days one to five: we collect administrator credentials, carrier account numbers and software vendor contacts, then inventory every device with NinjaOne and review the Microsoft 365 tenant, the firewall and the backups. Days six to fifteen: the help desk goes live, ThreatDown and Microsoft Defender for Business replace older security tools, and the previous provider's remote-access agents are removed so nobody outside still holds a key. Days sixteen to thirty: Conditional Access policies limit sign-ins to managed devices, Keeper replaces shared spreadsheets of passwords and the first backup restore is tested and logged. For staff, the change is one number to call and fewer sign-in prompts once trusted devices are enrolled. If you keep an in-house IT person, the split of duties is written down first.

Complete managed IT, cybersecurity and help desk for a 20-seat organization
A 20-seat organization handed NetSys the whole of its IT. Devices, network, Microsoft 365 and vendors came under one agreement with 24/7 monitoring and a named account manager; endpoint protection, multifactor authentication, email protection and tested backups went onto all twenty seats; staff got a help desk with engineers on the other end; and every new hire now goes through a defined onboarding process with recurring phishing training. The write-up is limited to the scope delivered, with no outcome figures claimed.

What managed IT costs in Bethesda
Managed IT is priced per user per month for a fully managed agreement, and the number moves with four things more than with headcount: how many servers you run, whether you need after-hours coverage beyond monitoring, how much compliance documentation you carry, and whether we are co-managing alongside an internal person or running everything. We quote from an assessment, not a phone call, and the agreement runs month to month. What belongs in the monthly fee versus what is billed separately is set out on our managed IT pricing page.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: 10 to 75 employees, one or two offices plus remote staff, already on Microsoft 365 or ready to move there, and either no internal IT or one person who is underwater.

Managed IT Services in Bethesda: FAQs
How does managed IT work for Bethesda organizations?
Everything is handled remotely. Your staff reach engineers by phone, email or Teams, and most requests are solved in a remote session while the person watches. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time. Critical problems get a phone response within ten minutes and remote work within thirty. NetSys does not place engineers in Bethesda buildings; preconfigured hardware ships to you, and your building engineer or cabling contractor makes physical connections while we guide the work.
How much do managed IT services cost in Bethesda?
Managed IT is priced per user per month after an assessment, and NetSys does not publish a fixed rate. The number moves with the devices each person carries, whether servers remain in the suite, how many locations and home offices are in scope, the compliance evidence you need for investors, auditors or federal contracts, and how much of the work an in-house person keeps. Projects, hardware and licensing are quoted separately. Agreements run month to month, and our managed IT pricing page explains what sits inside the fee.
Do you work with associations and nonprofits in Bethesda?
Yes. Associations and nonprofits suit managed IT because they rarely have a full IT team but hold large member, donor and event databases. One Maryland point matters: the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act does not exempt nonprofits as a group. An organization that handles personal data of at least 35,000 Maryland consumers in a year can be covered, with duties to collect only what is reasonably necessary and to honor access, correction and deletion requests. We lock down the systems that hold that data and document the controls; your counsel decides coverage.
Can you take over from our current IT provider without disrupting staff?
Yes, and most transitions are quiet. We ask the outgoing provider for administrator credentials, documentation and license details, then confirm each one works before the old access is cut. Carrier and software vendors receive a letter naming NetSys as your technical contact. Our agents install alongside the old tools, and the switch happens on a set date, usually a Friday evening, so Monday starts with one help desk number. Anything the previous provider owned, such as a backup appliance under its account, is replaced or transferred before its agreement ends.
Which Maryland rules apply to a Bethesda company's data?
Maryland's Personal Information Protection Act asks every business holding residents' personal information to keep reasonable security, and a business that shares that information with a service provider must require the provider by contract to protect it (Com. Law § 14-3503). A provider holding someone else's data must report a breach to the owner within 10 days of discovery (§ 14-3504(c)), and the owner then notifies the Attorney General before affected residents. Medical practices subject to and in compliance with HIPAA are deemed compliant with the subtitle (§ 14-3507(d)). This is general information, not legal advice.
