Managed IT Services in Reston, VA

For Reston contractors, engineering firms and associations, NetSys runs the whole IT environment as one accountable provider: identity, devices, network, backups, security monitoring and the vendors behind them. Everything is managed remotely from our Brooklyn office, documented in IT Glue and priced per user per month, with no long-term contract.

The short answer

NetSys is a managed IT provider for Reston, Virginia organizations, working remotely and through the cloud. One per-user monthly fee pays for an engineer-staffed help desk open seven days from 4 a.m. until 11 p.m. Eastern, around-the-clock NinjaOne monitoring, ThreatDown detection and response, administration of Microsoft 365 and Intune, Datto or Veeam backups proven by test restores, the firewall, and the calls to your other vendors. For defense subcontractors the plan can also produce the evidence behind a NIST SP 800-171 self-assessment. Engineers never travel to Reston; hardware ships configured. Agreements run month to month.

How managed IT is delivered in Reston

A Reston engagement is run entirely from Brooklyn. Monitoring agents on every server and computer report to NinjaOne, ThreatDown watches endpoints for attacker behavior, and engineers manage the Microsoft 365 tenant, Intune policies and the firewall through their consoles. NetSys keeps no staff in Northern Virginia and does not send engineers on site, so the design assumes nobody arrives to restart a box. Firewalls and switches arrive preconfigured from a Cisco Meraki or Fortinet template, laptops arrive enrolled in Autopilot, and the person at your office who plugs things in follows a written checklist while an engineer watches the device come online. Your account manager has a real cell number, and quarterly reviews happen over video. Monitoring runs 24/7 from Brooklyn, and so does emergency service. Our staffed help-desk hours are 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. The proposal states severe-incident escalation, authorized remediation and any other after-hours work.

What one managed agreement covers in a Reston office

The point of managed IT is that one firm answers for the whole environment rather than for the ticket in front of it. For a Reston office of 20 to 150 people, that means Entra ID accounts and Conditional Access, every laptop and server under NinjaOne patching, Barracuda filtering in front of email, Keeper for shared credentials, Rapid7 InsightVM scans of the network, and Datto SIRIS or Veeam backups with a restore tested on a schedule. It also means the vendors. When the project-accounting system stalls, the copier stops scanning to email or the phone system drops calls, our engineers open the vendor ticket, supply the logs and chase it to closure. Projects such as retiring a Windows Server 2016 machine before extended support ends on January 12, 2027 are quoted separately.

Reston's contractor economy and what primes now ask for

Reston is headquarters country for federal contracting: Leidos, Peraton and Bechtel all run their companies from Reston offices, and around them sit many smaller subcontractors who receive DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 flowdowns. The CMMC picture shifted this year: on July 13, 2026 the Department of War suspended Phase 2, which would have made third-party Level 2 certification a condition of award starting November 10, 2026, and Phases 3 and 4 are frozen during a CMMC Reform Task Force review. That group's report was due to the CIO on September 11, 2026 and is still unpublished in late October. What still applies: self-assessments at Level 1 and Level 2, an up-to-date SPRS score with its affirmation, the DFARS clause and NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2.

Circuits, landlords and the vendors around a Reston office

Reston's newer towers, from Reston Station at Wiehle-Reston East to the two RTC Next towers whose anchor tenants are Fannie Mae and Volkswagen, are run by landlords with their own rules for riser access, rooftop antennas and after-hours work. Older flex space on Sunrise Valley Drive and Sunset Hills Road often has one carrier and whatever cabling the last tenant left. Comcast Business and Verizon Fios are the first options to check at a Reston address, since the county franchises Comcast for the Reston area and Verizon countywide, with Lumen for a dedicated fiber circuit. We write the order specifications, coordinate with the property manager, pair the primary circuit with a different carrier or a cellular backup, and keep every vendor contact and contract date in IT Glue.

Backups and recovery planning for Reston

Two kinds of trouble have reached Reston businesses in recent years. Weather is the first. Fairfax County has been part of five federal disaster declarations since late 2009: the December 2009 and February 2010 snowstorms, Tropical Storm Lee's remnants in 2011, the January 2016 blizzard and the COVID-19 pandemic. Ransomware is the second. In September 2020 the Maze group attacked Fairfax County Public Schools, the system that serves Reston, and later posted stolen data online. Our recovery design assumes either can happen: backups copied to the cloud and kept immutable, a recovery order agreed with you system by system, and a written runbook. The record behind that design: more than 30 ransomware incidents handled in three years, all fully recovered, with clients who already had a disaster recovery plan back at work within 24 hours.

Complete managed IT, cybersecurity and help desk for a 20-seat organization

A 20-seat organization handed NetSys the whole of its IT. Devices, network, Microsoft 365 and vendors came under one agreement with 24/7 monitoring and a named account manager; endpoint protection, multifactor authentication, email protection and tested backups went onto all twenty seats; staff got a help desk with engineers on the other end; and every new hire now goes through a defined onboarding process with recurring phishing training. The write-up is limited to the scope delivered, with no outcome figures claimed.

What managed IT costs in Reston

Managed IT is priced per user per month for a fully managed agreement, and the number moves with four things more than with headcount: how many servers you run, whether you need after-hours coverage beyond monitoring, how much compliance documentation you carry, and whether we are co-managing alongside an internal person or running everything. We quote from an assessment, not a phone call, and the agreement runs month to month. What belongs in the monthly fee versus what is billed separately is set out on our managed IT pricing page.

How the monthly fee is built

Who this fits, and who it does not

Best fit: 10 to 75 employees, one or two offices plus remote staff, already on Microsoft 365 or ready to move there, and either no internal IT or one person who is underwater.

Common Questions

Managed IT Services in Reston: FAQs

How does managed IT work for Reston organizations?

Remotely, from start to finish. NetSys installs monitoring on every device, takes over administration of Microsoft 365, the firewall and backups, and hands your staff one help desk that engineers answer seven days a week, starting at 4 a.m. and closing at 11 p.m. Eastern. Alerts and emergencies are handled at any hour. Nobody from NetSys comes to the office in Reston, so new equipment arrives configured and is connected by your staff or cabling contractor while an engineer talks them through it. Your dedicated account manager owns the relationship, and the agreement is month to month.

What is included in a managed IT plan for a Reston business?

The plan covers the help desk; NinjaOne monitoring and patching; ThreatDown MDR and EDR alongside Defender for Business; Intune and Microsoft 365 administration; Barracuda in front of email; KnowBe4 phishing training; Keeper for passwords; Datto or Veeam backups with test restores; firewall and Wi-Fi management, IT Glue documentation, and vendor management for your line-of-business applications, carriers and copiers. A quarterly review covers risks, budget and the hardware due for replacement. Projects, hardware and licenses are quoted separately, so the monthly fee stays predictable.

How much do managed IT services cost in Reston?

We quote per user per month after an assessment and do not publish a rate. Headcount sets the baseline, but other things move the figure more: how many servers you run and where they live, the count of offices and remote staff, compliance work such as preparing for a NIST SP 800-171 self-assessment, and whether you keep an IT employee for part of the job. Two Reston firms with 40 people can land in different places. The managed IT pricing page explains what the fee includes, and terms run month to month.

Can you help a Reston subcontractor prepare a NIST SP 800-171 self-assessment?

Yes. We map where controlled unclassified information actually lives, tighten the Microsoft 365 and endpoint controls around it, and collect the evidence: MFA and Conditional Access reports, patch and scan results from NinjaOne and Rapid7, backup test records and an incident response plan that meets the 72-hour DFARS reporting window. Your company then scores itself against the 110 requirements of Revision 2 and affirms the result in SPRS. While Phase 2 of CMMC stays suspended, that self-assessment is what a prime or contracting officer can ask for. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can you work alongside our internal IT person, or replace our current provider?

Either. In a co-managed arrangement your IT person keeps the relationships and daily requests while NetSys takes monitoring, security, patching, backups and after-hours coverage; the split is written into the agreement. If you are leaving another provider, we collect credentials and documentation, compare what is deployed with what you pay for, and cut over in stages, typically three to four weeks for a 20-seat office. The old provider's access is removed at the end, and every account and device is recorded in IT Glue so nothing depends on one person's memory.
