Healthcare IT Support in Nassau County, NY
Nassau's medical groups rarely stay in one building. A cardiology or orthopedic group may run offices in Manhasset, Garden City and Massapequa, share one EHR, bill centrally and exchange records with several hospital systems. NetSys runs IT for the group as a whole: one network, one identity system, one HIPAA security program and recovery plans tested at every site.
The short answer
NetSys provides healthcare IT support and managed IT for medical groups, clinic networks and multi-specialty practices in Nassau County. We connect every location through Cisco Meraki or Fortinet firewalls on an encrypted site-to-site network, manage identities in Entra ID with multifactor authentication, run ThreatDown detection and response on every endpoint, and keep the HIPAA Security Rule risk analysis and contingency plan current with evidence. The whole county is inside our on-site coverage: remote work comes first, and engineers drive out from Brooklyn for network, hardware and new-site work. Agreements run month to month.

Running a multi-site medical group in Nassau County
Nassau's hospital map shapes how its medical groups work. Northwell Health, New York's largest private employer with more than 105,000 employees, is headquartered in New Hyde Park and runs North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset along with hospitals in Glen Cove, Plainview, Syosset and Valley Stream. NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island in Mineola is a 591-bed Level I trauma center. Mount Sinai South Nassau in Oceanside runs the only trauma center on Nassau's South Shore and a free-standing emergency department in Long Beach. Catholic Health operates St. Francis in Roslyn, Mercy in Rockville Centre and St. Joseph in Bethpage, and Nassau University Medical Center serves East Meadow. Physician groups sit between these systems, often with privileges at two or three of them, so their IT has to reach several hospital portals and the Healthix exchange that serves New York City and Long Island, where patients must give affirmative consent before providers view their records. Groups also grow by acquisition. Each practice that joins brings its own circuit, printers, old domain and vendor contracts, and the work is folding it into the group's standard without a gap in patient care.
On-site and remote support across a group's locations
A group with five offices cannot wait for a technician at each one, so the first response is remote. The help desk has engineers on shift from 4 a.m. until 11 p.m. Eastern, weekends included, monitoring and emergency response never pause, and a severe problem at any site, from ransomware to a dead circuit, goes straight to the group's dedicated engineer. Site visits are for work that needs hands: building out a newly acquired office, replacing a firewall or switch, re-cabling a closet or standing up exam-room workstations. From Park Slope, Manhasset and Mineola are about 45 minutes by car and Massapequa about 50, so a multi-site project is scheduled as a route rather than a string of separate trips. Every location's equipment, circuits and closets are documented in IT Glue, so whichever engineer arrives already knows what is there.
One HIPAA security program for every office
The Security Rule asks a covered entity to assess risk across all of its electronic patient information, so a group needs one risk analysis that covers every site rather than a folder per office. We build it from the inventory: each location's devices, circuits and systems, who can sign in to the EHR and billing system and from where, and which vendors hold data. Central identity makes the controls consistent. One Entra ID directory with role-based groups, Conditional Access and multifactor authentication covers every office, Intune encrypts laptops, and logs from firewalls and endpoints feed one record. Segmentation matters as much. In January 2024, attackers who got into a Garden City plastic surgery group operating 13 practices exposed records of 161,707 patients, which is the multi-site risk plainly stated: a breach at one office reaches all of them unless the network is divided.
Continuity when one office goes dark
Nassau has a hard lesson in what a flood does to medical infrastructure. Sandy's surge in 2012 put roughly ten feet of water into the basement of Long Beach Medical Center, where its electrical and mechanical systems sat, and the hospital did not reopen as an inpatient hospital; South Nassau, now Mount Sinai South Nassau, opened a free-standing emergency department on the barrier island in 2015. For a practice group, the equivalent is a South Shore office with its server or network closet below grade. We set a recovery time for each system, keep EHR access and phones able to move to a sister office, add a second circuit or cellular failover at each site, and test restores on a schedule. Among the ransomware cases we have handled, clients that already had a recovery plan were running again within a day.

Rules that shape IT for Nassau healthcare groups
HIPAA Security Rule, organization-wide
Section 164.308 requires a risk analysis, a risk management plan, a sanctions policy and regular review of information system activity, and its contingency standard requires plans for data backup, disaster recovery and emergency mode operation. For a group, all of it applies across every location and every system that holds electronic patient information. HHS published a proposed Security Rule update on January 6, 2025; it remains a proposal and does not change current obligations.
New York's hospital cybersecurity rule (10 NYCRR 405.46)
Since October 2, 2024, general hospitals licensed under Article 28 of the Public Health Law have had to report material cybersecurity incidents to the Department of Health within 72 hours, and most of the rule took effect on October 2, 2025, including a CISO, multifactor authentication for remote access, annual penetration testing and written policies for third-party service providers. It governs hospitals, not private groups, but a practice with connections into a hospital's systems may face security questions under those vendor policies.
The SHIN-NY and Healthix
Health information exchange in New York runs through qualified entities linked by the Statewide Health Information Network for New York, and Healthix serves New York City and Long Island. Patients must give affirmative consent before a provider can view their records through the exchange, and they can withdraw it. Exchange portal accounts belong in the same provisioning and offboarding process as the EHR, so departing staff lose access everywhere at once.
Breach notification under HIPAA and New York law
When unsecured patient information is breached, HIPAA requires notice to each affected patient without unreasonable delay and within 60 calendar days of discovery; a breach of 500 or more records is reported to HHS within the same window, and one affecting more than 500 residents of a state also requires notice to prominent media there. In New York, a group that files with HHS must inform the Attorney General within five business days. This is general information, not legal advice.

Healthcare Organizations in Nassau County: FAQs
Who provides healthcare IT support in Nassau County?
NetSys provides managed IT and healthcare IT support to medical groups, clinic networks and specialty practices in every part of Nassau County, working out of our Brooklyn office. We run the network between locations, identity and access, endpoints, Microsoft 365, backups and the HIPAA security documentation, and we coordinate with the EHR, billing and imaging vendors when a problem sits on their side. Agreements renew monthly, and the engineers doing the work hold Cisco and Microsoft certifications.
Do you provide on-site healthcare IT support in Nassau County?
Yes. Every location a Nassau group runs falls within our on-site territory, from Valley Stream and Oceanside to Manhasset, Syosset and Massapequa. We come on site to bring a newly acquired office onto the group's network, replace firewalls and switches, wire closets and set up exam rooms and front desks. Routine tickets are handled remotely first, and multi-site projects are planned as a route so each office loses as little clinic time as possible.
How do you connect several clinic locations securely?
Each office gets a business-grade Cisco Meraki or Fortinet firewall, and the sites join an encrypted site-to-site network so clinicians can reach the EHR, file shares and phones from any location with the same permissions. Clinical, guest and building-system traffic run on separate network segments, and a second circuit or cellular link takes over when the main one fails. Identity is central in Entra ID, so one set of role-based permissions follows staff from office to office.
What does healthcare IT support cost for a Nassau medical group?
A group's fee is calculated per user each month after an assessment; scope decides the number, not a rate card. Users and devices, the number of locations, how much runs on local servers versus in the cloud, imaging and specialty equipment, and the depth of HIPAA documentation and evidence the group needs all move it. New-site build-outs and acquisitions are quoted as projects. Agreements are month to month, so the group is never tied to a long contract.
Does New York's hospital cybersecurity rule apply to our practice group?
Not directly. 10 NYCRR 405.46 covers general hospitals licensed under Article 28. Its requirements reach groups indirectly, because each hospital must keep written policies for third-party service providers, and a practice that connects to a hospital's systems may be asked how it handles multifactor authentication, incident reporting and data encryption. We keep the group's controls documented so those questionnaires can be answered from evidence rather than from memory.
How do you bring a newly acquired practice onto the group's systems?
We start with an inventory visit to record its devices, circuits, software contracts, accounts and backups. Identity comes next: staff move into the group's Entra ID directory with multifactor authentication, and old local accounts are disabled. The office then joins the site-to-site network behind a standard firewall, devices are enrolled in Intune and NinjaOne, and its data is migrated to the group's EHR or file platform with the vendor. A restore test and an updated risk analysis close the project.
