Nassau's law firms work a short drive from the Supreme Court on Supreme Court Drive in Mineola, the Family and Matrimonial court complex on County Seat Drive and the District Court in Hempstead. The short answer
NetSys provides IT support and managed IT services for law firms in Nassau County, from solo practices near the Mineola courthouses to litigation, matrimonial and real estate firms in Garden City, Uniondale and Lake Success. We manage Microsoft 365, the platform under the document management system, scanners and e-filing workstations, multifactor authentication, ThreatDown detection on every device, encrypted laptops and backups we restore on a schedule. Nassau is inside our on-site coverage: problems are worked remotely first, and engineers come to the office for network, hardware and move work. Agreements are month to month.

Courts, filings and client money in Nassau County
Law is Nassau's most concentrated profession. Federal labor statistics show the county employing more than 11,000 people in legal services, a concentration roughly 2.3 times the national average, and the Nassau County Bar Association, founded in Mineola in 1899, bought the site of its Domus headquarters there in 1929. The county seat holds most of the courts: the Supreme Court at 100 Supreme Court Drive and, since June 2025, a consolidated complex at 101 County Seat Drive for Family Court and the Matrimonial Center, which moved in from Westbury and from older space in Mineola. The District Court sits on Main Street in Hempstead, near Hofstra's law school. Practice areas follow suburban life: matrimonial and family law, personal injury, real estate closings, and trusts and estates, where Nassau's Surrogate's Court has required electronic filing for probate and administration proceedings since December 22, 2021. That shapes the IT. E-filing workstations, scanners that produce clean PDFs and a document system reachable at 10 p.m. before a deadline matter as much as email, and real estate practices move client money on the strength of wire instructions, which is exactly where attackers aim.
Remote help and office visits for a Nassau law firm
Most problems in a law office are solved remotely: a locked account before a deposition, a scanner that stopped producing searchable PDFs, an Outlook profile that broke after an update. The help desk has people on it every day of the week, starting at 4 a.m. and finishing at 11 p.m. Eastern, late enough for the evening before a filing deadline, and monitoring runs all night. Ransomware, a server failure or an office without internet is escalated at once to your dedicated engineer. For hands-on work, Mineola and Garden City are about 45 minutes from Park Slope outside rush hour and Lake Success closer to 35, so visits are scheduled like any appointment: a conference room set up for remote depositions, scanners and printers, a firewall or switch, cabling, or desks on the weekend of an office move. Documentation in IT Glue means the visiting engineer knows your network before arriving.
Documents, e-filing and the matter file
A firm's matter file usually lives in three places: a document management system, Microsoft 365 mail and Teams, and the practice-management or billing system that holds time and trust accounting. We organize permissions by matter and practice group so an ethical wall is a setting, not a memo, and apply retention and litigation-hold policies in Microsoft 365 when a matter requires them. E-filing depends on dull things working: the scanner's searchable-PDF profile, the browser on the filing workstation, each attorney's NYSCEF credentials stored in Keeper rather than on a sticky note, and a printer that can produce the filed copy. Laptops are encrypted and managed through Intune, so a bag left on the Long Island Rail Road becomes a device to wipe rather than a likely breach notice. We work with the document and practice software vendors on application faults and stay on the call until they are fixed.
Wire fraud, ransomware and continuity in court weeks
Real estate and estate practices move money, and attackers know it. The usual pattern is a compromised mailbox at a broker, title company or client, followed by a well-timed message changing wire instructions before a closing. We block it on two sides: a firm policy that no wire changes without a call to a known number, and controls that make the firm's own mail harder to hijack, including multifactor authentication, Barracuda filtering, DMARC on the domain and alerts on new forwarding rules. Ransomware is the other threat, and the nearest public example is next door: Suffolk County's September 2022 attack grew from an intrusion through a Log4j flaw in the County Clerk's systems months earlier, cut off email for more than 10,000 county workers and left the title search system down for weeks. Patching, ThreatDown detection and immutable backups are our answer. For storms, documents and mail live in the cloud, the office network sits on battery and a cellular backup keeps the phones up.

Rules that shape IT for Nassau law firms
New York Rule of Professional Conduct 1.6(c)
Rule 1.6(c) tells New York lawyers to make reasonable efforts against inadvertent or unauthorized disclosure of, use of or access to protected client information, a duty that reaches former and prospective clients through Rules 1.9(c) and 1.18(b). ABA Model Rule 1.6(c) states a similar duty. The comments weigh the sensitivity of the information, the likelihood of disclosure and the cost and difficulty of added safeguards, so controls should be proportionate and written down.
Cybersecurity, Privacy and Data Protection CLE
Since July 1, 2023, New York attorneys have had to complete one CLE credit hour in Cybersecurity, Privacy and Data Protection as part of each reporting cycle, earned as ethics or general credit, without any increase in total hours. Partners are now trained to ask about encryption, multifactor authentication and vendor contracts, and we give them answers they can check against the firm's actual setup.
NYSBA Ethics Opinion 842 on cloud storage
The New York State Bar Association concluded in 2010 that a lawyer may store client files with an online provider if the lawyer takes reasonable care to protect confidentiality and security, for example by confirming the provider has an enforceable obligation to keep data confidential and will give notice if served with process for client information. Reasonable care does not mean guaranteeing security. We collect the provider terms that answer those questions for Microsoft 365 and the firm's other cloud services.
New York SHIELD Act
Firms hold Social Security numbers, account numbers and medical records from personal injury files, all of which section 899-aa of the General Business Law treats as private information. Section 899-bb expects reasonable safeguards, scaled for a small business, defined as fewer than 50 employees, under $3 million in annual revenue in each of the last three years or under $5 million in year-end assets. A breach requires notice to affected residents within 30 days of discovery, with state agencies informed. This is general information, not legal advice.

Law Firms in Nassau County: FAQs
Who provides IT support for law firms in Nassau County?
We do, from our Park Slope office, for firms across the county, from solo practitioners in Mineola to multi-office practices in Garden City and Uniondale. Our team runs the workstations, Microsoft 365, the network, security, backups and the platform the document system runs on, and we coordinate with the document and practice software vendors. Our engineers are certified in Cisco and Microsoft, every firm has an account manager it can reach on a real cell phone, and there is no term contract.
Do you provide on-site IT support for law firms in Nassau County?
Yes. All of Nassau is within reach for in-person work, so we come to firms near the Mineola courthouses, in Garden City, Uniondale, Lake Success, Great Neck and beyond for network equipment, scanners, conference-room setups, new workstations and office moves. Day-to-day problems such as a locked account or a broken Outlook profile are handled remotely first, because that gets an attorney working again sooner than a drive out would.
What does IT support cost for a law firm in Nassau County?
Law firm support is billed per seat each month once we have assessed the firm; there is no published price list. Attorneys and staff, devices, whether the document system is hosted or on your own server, the number of offices, and the evidence your clients' outside counsel guidelines or insurer ask for all move the fee. Projects such as a Microsoft 365 migration or an office move are quoted separately, and the firm can leave in any month.
How do you help Nassau firms meet the Rule 1.6(c) reasonable-efforts duty?
We translate it into controls you can show: multifactor authentication on every account, encrypted laptops and phones, permissions by matter, logging of who opened which document, email filtering, and backups that ransomware cannot alter. We also gather vendor terms for each cloud service, as Ethics Opinion 842 suggests, and keep a short written security summary for client questionnaires and your cyber insurer. Your firm decides what is reasonable for its practice; we make sure the safeguards behind that decision exist.
Do you support our document management and practice software?
We support the environment it depends on: the server or cloud connection, Microsoft 365 and Outlook integration, the add-ins on each attorney's machine, scanners and their PDF profiles, and the backups. When a fault is inside the application, we open the case with that vendor, give their technician logged access and follow it through. We are not the vendor and do not claim its certifications, and we test their updates on one machine before the whole firm.
How do you stop wire fraud on real estate closings?
Process first: a written rule that wire instructions are never changed on the strength of an email, a callback to a phone number already on file, and a second person approving any change. Then controls: multifactor authentication and Conditional Access so the firm's own mailboxes are hard to take over, Barracuda filtering and impersonation protection, DMARC on the firm's domain, alerts when someone creates a forwarding rule, and KnowBe4 training built around closing-day scams.
