AI Consulting in Lexington, KY
Lexington's economy runs on hospitals, horses, bourbon, warehouses and the University, and its small and mid-sized firms have the recurring paperwork that AI handles well: patient referrals, sales catalog pages, distillery visitor bookings, freight documents. Kentucky's Consumer Data Protection Act took effect January 1, 2026 and sets the frame for the larger ones. NetSys assesses, pilots and governs AI for Lexington businesses remotely from Brooklyn, in the same Eastern time zone, with a plan you keep.

How AI consulting is delivered in Lexington
Lexington shares Eastern time with our Brooklyn office, so interviews, pilot reviews and training land in normal business hours for both sides without the juggling a West Coast engagement needs. The engagement is remote: NetSys does not send consultants to Kentucky, and an AI assessment has no step that needs a visit. Discovery is a series of video conversations with the people who do the repetitive work, from a referral coordinator to a sales office clerk, alongside access you approve to the Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace tenant, the application each candidate task lives in, and the sign-in and consent logs that show which AI tools staff already use. Pilot configuration runs in the admin consoles during a change window you pick, with an engineer live. Downtown, the Hamburg and Beaumont office areas, the Coldstream research campus, the horse farms along Old Frankfort Pike and the distilleries in Woodford and Scott counties are one engagement from here, with a named engineer, a written scope and a handover meeting. If the question turns out to be infrastructure, such as a server still holding the files a tool would need, our IT consulting page covers that work.
Lexington's industries and the paperwork worth automating
Commerce Lexington describes a service economy especially strong in health care and education, with the University of Kentucky, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Amazon, Conduent and Baptist Health among the metro's largest employers, equine businesses as a key source of employment and the I-75 and I-64 crossroads as a logistics advantage. The Kentucky Distillers' Association's 2026 report puts distilling at 23,935 Kentucky jobs across 125 licensed distilleries, and the University of Kentucky's statewide equine survey counted roughly 40,665 jobs tied to the horse industry. The firms around those anchors have familiar tasks. A physician or dental group handles referrals, prior authorizations and insurance verifications inside its practice system; an equine veterinary practice or sales company writes catalog descriptions, health certificates and client updates from its records; a distillery runs visitor bookings, wholesale orders and compliance paperwork across Tock, Shopify or an ERP; a third-party logistics firm extracts rate confirmations and bills of lading ahead of its TMS; a manufacturing supplier processes purchase orders and quality documents. Each is scored on the hours it would return, what a mistake would cost, how reachable its data is and what the tool would cost to run, and the AI ROI calculator will give you a planning estimate from your own task times before the first call.
The Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act and an AI pilot
Kentucky's Consumer Data Protection Act, KRS 367.3611 to 367.3629, took effect January 1, 2026. It applies to businesses that conduct business in the Commonwealth or target its residents and that, in a calendar year, control or process personal data of at least 100,000 Kentucky consumers, or at least 25,000 while deriving more than half their gross revenue from selling personal data. It exempts state agencies, nonprofits, institutions of higher education, financial institutions under Gramm-Leach-Bliley and HIPAA covered entities and business associates, and it exempts protected health information outright. Covered controllers must give a privacy notice, honor access, correction, deletion and portability requests within 45 days, obtain consent before processing sensitive data, let consumers opt out of targeted advertising, data sales and profiling in furtherance of significant decisions, and conduct data protection impact assessments for that profiling (367.3621). The Attorney General enforces it alone, with a 30-day cure period and civil penalties up to 7,500 dollars per violation. Many Lexington firms fall below the thresholds or inside the HIPAA exemption, but an AI tool that profiles customers can change the analysis, so the plan records what each use case does with personal data and your counsel decides.
What a pilot looks like for a Lexington practice, farm or distillery
A pilot covers one task, a named group, a two-week baseline and a review date. For a medical or dental group the first rule is that patient data stays inside the practice system's permission model; a Copilot or Claude pilot drafts referral letters and summaries from what the user is already entitled to see, and HIPAA's business associate requirements are checked against the vendor's terms before anything is enabled. For an equine sales company or a distillery, the pilot is usually drafting and intake: catalog or product descriptions from approved records, booking and wholesale inquiry replies, document extraction for a person to approve. In a Microsoft 365 tenant the sharing cleanup comes first, since Copilot can read anything the signed-in user can: company-wide drives, anonymous links, old guests and dormant accounts are closed before a license is assigned. Drafting outside the tenant runs in a Claude Team or ChatGPT Business workspace on company sign-in, with retention and training settings documented. When the review date arrives, the pilot is judged against its baseline on quality, corrections, exceptions and actual use, and the decision to go, adjust or stop goes in writing. Our published Copilot rollout for an 18-person organization shows the sequence; it was not a Kentucky engagement.
Policy, training and the AI security assessment
Discovery in Lexington finds the same thing it finds everywhere: staff already using AI through personal accounts, sometimes with patient details, client lists or pricing pasted in. The fix is a one-page policy: approved tools, a plain list of what stays out (protected health information, cardholder data, horse ownership and sale records under confidentiality, distributor pricing) and the name of the person to ask. Our AI usage policy template guide explains the reasoning behind each clause, the AI policy generator gives you a first draft in minutes, and the pilot shows which clauses to sharpen. After the review, staff are trained in small groups by job over video in Eastern time, working in their own practice or order system rather than watching a demo; the AI training page sets out the format. The AI security assessment runs in parallel and builds the file a hospital partner, a cyber insurer or a Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act impact assessment will call for: the identity behind each tool, where its prompts and outputs are kept and for how long, each connector with write permission, and whether hidden instructions in a shared document could pull personal data out.

A 35-person Lexington equine veterinary practice buried in health certificates and client updates
This planning example shows how we could scope the work. It is not a claim about a customer in this market or a measured result. For published customer work, see our case studies.
Illustrative planning example, not a client. Veterinarians and technicians spend evenings writing client updates, health certificates and sale-related reports from exam notes in the practice system, and the front desk re-keys the same farm and horse details into forms. Two associates use a personal chatbot to polish reports. The partners want hours back before the sales season and a policy before a farm client asks.
- Remote interviews with three veterinarians, two technicians and the office manager in Eastern time, with two weeks of task logging
- Tenant and practice system review: shared drives open to everyone, a former associate's account still active and personal AI accounts in the sign-in logs
- Candidates scored: client update drafting from exam notes, certificate pre-fill for a veterinarian to sign and farm detail lookups; diagnoses, treatment decisions and signatures kept manual, with the reason recorded
- A Claude Team pilot charter for one clinical team on company sign-in with retention settings documented and confidential sale records excluded, and an acceptable use policy issued first
- The AI security assessment of the pilot's accounts and the practice system connector, and a rollout training plan by role
The deliverables are a ranked use-case plan, a pilot charter and baseline, a signed acceptable use policy, a permission fix list with costs, the security assessment report and a training plan. Whether the pilot expands is decided at the review against the charter.
Microsoft Copilot rollout and custom agents for an 18-person organization
An 18-person organization wanted Copilot in daily use rather than merely licensed. NetSys reviewed SharePoint and OneDrive permissions, sensitivity labels and sharing settings before enabling anything, so the assistant could only surface what each person was already entitled to see; assigned licenses across the organization with hands-on sessions by role; built custom agents grounded in the organization's own data for its recurring workflows; and stayed on to adjust the agents and keep the tenant configuration in step. No outcome figures were measured for publication.

Kentucky rules that reach an AI project in Lexington
The Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act (KRS 367.3611 to 367.3629) took effect January 1, 2026. It applies above the thresholds in KRS 367.3613, exempts HIPAA covered entities, nonprofits, higher education and financial institutions under Gramm-Leach-Bliley, requires data protection impact assessments for profiling in furtherance of significant decisions (KRS 367.3621) and is enforced by the Attorney General with a 30-day cure period and civil penalties up to 7,500 dollars per violation (KRS 367.3627). Checked on apps.legislature.ky.gov and ag.ky.gov on November 7, 2026. HIPAA applies to health care providers regardless. Your legal adviser determines which duties apply.
What AI consulting costs in Lexington
A fixed scope quoted after a first call. The quote follows how many teams and workflows are in discovery, how many systems a tool must read or write, the sharing and data cleanup required before a pilot, and whether the path is a licensed tool or a custom agent. Remote delivery adds no travel line. Licenses and model usage are running costs estimated in the plan, builds are quoted after the pilot, and support runs month to month.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: Lexington-area firms of roughly 10 to 200 people in health care, equine and veterinary services, distilling and hospitality, logistics or manufacturing supply, with recurring paperwork worth measuring and partners who ask how AI is governed.
Not a fit: a practice that wants AI reading patient charts before its privacy officer has been consulted, or a company that expects guaranteed savings before anyone has measured the work.

AI Consulting in Lexington: FAQs
Do you work with Lexington businesses on site?
No. Lexington is served remotely from Brooklyn: interviews, pilot reviews and training over video in Eastern time, and system work through access you approve. NetSys travels only within about 50 miles of New York City; an AI assessment is about people's time and permissions, not a site.
How is AI consulting priced for a Lexington company?
As a sequence of fixed-price phases rather than an hourly engagement: the assessment is priced after a first call, the pilot after the assessment has chosen it, and a rollout or custom build after the review. Licenses and model usage are running costs the plan estimates, support is month to month, and there is no price list to quote from. The AI ROI calculator gives you a planning estimate from your own numbers beforehand.
Does the Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act apply to a Lexington practice or farm?
Only above its thresholds: personal data of at least 100,000 Kentucky consumers a year, or 25,000 with more than half of revenue from selling personal data. HIPAA covered entities, nonprofits and higher education are exempt, and protected health information is exempt outright. Many Lexington firms fall outside it, but an AI tool that profiles customers for significant decisions is exactly what the law's impact assessment duty targets, so we record what each use case does with personal data and your counsel decides.
Can AI be used with patient records under HIPAA?
Only inside the practice system's permission model and with a vendor whose terms support a business associate agreement where one is needed. The pilot drafts from what the user can already see, prompts and outputs are kept in a workspace on company sign-in with retention documented, and anything that leaves the practice is reviewed by a clinician. Your counsel and privacy officer confirm the arrangement; the engagement supplies the configuration evidence.
Which platform suits a Lexington business?
Whichever one the task already lives next to. A practice or office that runs on Outlook, Teams and SharePoint usually gets its first return from Microsoft 365 Copilot, after sharing is tightened. Long-document review, drafting and shared assistants outside the tenant point to a Claude Team or ChatGPT Business workspace on company sign-in, which is also where Google Workspace firms land. A job that reads the booking or practice system and queues a change for a person to approve is a custom agent. The plan names the choice per task and attaches the vendor's data terms.
Can a distillery or equine business use AI on confidential sale and customer records?
Yes, with the records kept where they are. Consignor and buyer details, pricing and distributor terms stay in the system that holds them, the tool reads only what the signed-in user can already see, and anything confidential under a contract is named in the acceptable use policy as off limits for drafting. Prompts and outputs live in a workspace on company sign-in with retention documented, and the security assessment records all of it.
What do we keep if we stop after the assessment?
Everything the assessment produced: the ranked use cases and their scoring, the platform and build-or-buy call for each, the data and permission fixes with costs, the pilot charter and the policy draft. It is written for your own staff or another provider to act on without us.
Bring the referrals, the certificates or the bookings.
Tell us the recurring task, the systems it touches and who signs off on the result. A NetSys engineer scores it against your own numbers and Kentucky's rules, remotely in Eastern time, and returns a pilot you can measure.
