Windows Server 2016 support ends January 12, 2027

Plenty of Miami offices still run a file server, a domain controller or an accounting database on Windows Server 2016, often in a closet that overheats or sits below street level. Microsoft's extended support for that version ends on January 12, 2027, after which it receives no security updates, and support for Windows 10 already ended on October 14, 2025. File shares usually belong in SharePoint and OneDrive, line-of-business databases may move to Azure or to the vendor's hosted service, and identity moves to Entra ID. Some servers are simply replaced. The goal is to make that decision with numbers this fall rather than in a rush after the deadline, and before the next hurricane season tests the closet again.
