Managed IT Services in Manhattan
NetSys runs IT for small and mid-sized businesses in Manhattan: help desk, security, backups, Microsoft 365 and the network, for a flat monthly fee per user. We have run IT out of New York since 1998, and our engineers hold degrees in electrical and computer engineering. Our office is at 1 Prospect Park SW in Brooklyn, so Park Slope to the Financial District is 25 minutes and to Midtown 35 to 45 by subway, which is how most Manhattan site visits happen; engineers come to you for the work that needs hands, and monitoring and help desk run remotely around the clock. Most clients run between 10 and 75 seats, and every agreement is month to month.

Most clients run between 10 and 75 seats, and every agreement is month to month.
How managed IT is delivered in Manhattan
Our office is at 1 Prospect Park SW in Brooklyn, so Park Slope to the Financial District is 25 minutes and to Midtown 35 to 45 by subway, which is how most Manhattan site visits happen; engineers come to you for the work that needs hands, and monitoring and help desk run remotely around the clock. The buildings decide a lot of the design. Pre-war office buildings from the Garment District to Wall Street have one carrier in the riser more often than not, landlords control riser access and after-hours work windows, and shared-floor and co-working leases mean the network under your staff is somebody else's, which changes how endpoint security and remote access have to be built. The carriers we see most in Manhattan are Verizon Fios, Spectrum Business, Lightpath and Crown Castle fiber, and the failover design starts with which of them actually reach your building.
Who managed IT in Manhattan is built for
Most of our Manhattan work sits in Midtown, the Financial District, Hudson Yards, the Flatiron District and the Upper East Side: law firms on iManage, hedge funds and family offices on Bloomberg Terminal, wealth managers and RIAs on Orion, accounting firms on Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite, agencies and media companies on HubSpot, and real estate and property managers on Yardi Voyager. Each carries its own compliance load, which the section below covers, and each has a line-of-business vendor we coordinate with rather than work around. Companies with an internal IT person fit too; in that case we supply the monitoring, the security stack and the after-hours coverage behind them, and they keep their projects.
What tends to go wrong in Manhattan
Two things shape the continuity design here. First, the weather and the grid: the outages here are a cut riser, a failed building circuit or a Con Edison vault fire, so a second carrier or wireless failover and off-site backups do more than any storm plan. Second, the attacks that actually land locally are ordinary ones, and the public record shows how they go: the June 2021 intrusion into the New York City Law Department's systems, disclosed by the city, which traced back to a single account without multifactor authentication. The controls in the next section are the ones that would have changed those stories.
Managed IT Services in Manhattan: what NetSys delivers
Help desk and monitoring
- Unlimited help desk by phone, email and Teams, staffed by engineers rather than a ticket queue, with severe problems such as ransomware, systems down, no internet or email not working answered immediately by your dedicated engineer
- 24/7 monitoring of every server, workstation and firewall through NinjaOne RMM, with alerts an engineer acts on rather than forwards
- Patching and routine maintenance on the schedule your business sets, weekly for some clients and quarterly for others, with urgent fixes applied as needed in between
- Documentation of the whole environment in IT Glue, so the answer to 'what is that box' exists in writing
Security, built in
- ThreatDown managed detection and response with EDR agents on every device, not just servers
- Microsoft Defender for Business, Entra ID Conditional Access and multifactor authentication across the Microsoft 365 tenant
- Barracuda Email Protection in front of every mailbox, with SPF, DKIM and DMARC set correctly
- KnowBe4 security awareness training and simulated phishing for every user, on a recurring schedule
Backups, devices and vendors
- Datto SIRIS or Veeam backups with immutable off-site copies, and live restores run on the schedule in the agreement with the result sent to you
- Intune and Windows Autopilot device management, so a new laptop ships sealed and configures itself at first sign-in
- Vendor management: we deal with the ISP, the line-of-business software vendor and the landlord's building IT
- A quarterly technology review with a written roadmap and budget, run by the engineer who knows your environment
A 26-person agency or media company in Hudson Yards
The specific engagements behind this profile are under NDA, so it is written as a generalization rather than a named client. Our published, client-approved outcomes are in case studies.
A 26-seat agencies and media companies in Hudson Yards that grew out of its setup: HubSpot plus a dozen browser tools, an Exchange Online tenant with no multifactor authentication, a Meraki firewall out of support and a Lightpath connection with no failover. The previous provider missed a failed backup for four months and nobody noticed until a file was needed. The owner has become the help desk and the office manager keeps the passwords in a spreadsheet.
- KnowBe4 onboarding for every user, with a baseline phishing test in week one and recurring training after that
- A written onboarding and offboarding checklist covering accounts, devices, access and hardware return
- Discovery on every device, account and vendor contract, documented in IT Glue before anything is changed
- ThreatDown MDR and EDR rolled out to every endpoint, with the console monitored around the clock
- Datto SIRIS appliance installed for the server with immutable cloud copies, and a first restore run and dated within the first month
- Keeper password vault deployed so shared spreadsheets of passwords stop existing
One provider is accountable for devices, network, Microsoft 365 and security. Staff call a help desk that fixes things, the insurer gets answers with evidence behind them, and leadership sees a quarterly roadmap instead of surprise invoices. The agreement runs month to month.
Complete managed IT, cybersecurity and help desk for a 20-seat organization
A 20-seat organization handed NetSys the whole of its IT. Devices, network, Microsoft 365 and vendors came under one agreement with 24/7 monitoring and a named account manager; endpoint protection, multifactor authentication, email protection and tested backups went onto all twenty seats; staff got a help desk with engineers on the other end; and every new hire now goes through a defined onboarding process with recurring phishing training. The write-up is limited to the scope delivered, with no outcome figures claimed.
Compliance in Manhattan: the SHIELD Act and what sits on top of it
If you hold personal information on a resident of New York, the New York SHIELD Act (General Business Law § 899-bb) requires any business holding private information on a New York resident, with no employee-count threshold, to keep reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, and § 899-aa sets the breach-notification duty. Small businesses get a scaled standard, not an exemption. Licensed financial businesses add NYDFS Part 500 (amended in November 2023, with multifactor authentication, asset inventories and annual certification now expected of nearly every covered entity). Healthcare practices layer HIPAA on top, and advisory firms answer to the SEC and FINRA. The managed agreement produces the evidence those rules ask for as a by-product: access reviews, patch reports, backup test results and a written incident response plan. Most firms we take over have none of it documented, which is the part that matters if you ever have to demonstrate compliance, so the documentation is built during onboarding rather than sold as a separate project.
What managed IT costs in Manhattan
Managed IT is priced per user per month for a fully managed agreement, and the number moves with four things more than with headcount: how many servers you run, whether you need after-hours coverage beyond monitoring, how much compliance documentation you carry, and whether we are co-managing alongside an internal person or running everything. We quote from an assessment, not a phone call, and the agreement runs month to month. What belongs in the monthly fee versus what is billed separately is set out on our managed IT pricing page.
Who this fits, and who it does not
Best fit: 10 to 75 employees, one or two offices plus remote staff, already on Microsoft 365 or ready to move there, and either no internal IT or one person who is underwater.
Not a fit: businesses under five people, who are usually better served by the small-office baseline described in our five-person case study, or organizations over 250 seats, which need an internal team we can co-manage with rather than replace.

Managed IT Services in Manhattan: FAQs
Can you work with our existing IT person?
Yes. That is a co-managed arrangement: your person keeps the relationships and the day-to-day, and we take monitoring, security, patching and after-hours coverage, with the split written into the agreement. Our co-managed IT page describes how the responsibility matrix is drawn.
Do we have to sign a long contract?
No. Every NetSys agreement runs month to month, with no long-term contract and no early-exit penalty. The scope, the responsibilities on each side and the monthly figure are written down before you sign.
Is cybersecurity included or extra?
Included. Endpoint detection and response, multifactor authentication and Conditional Access, email protection, security awareness training and immutable backups are part of every managed agreement. The free external penetration test runs remotely before you hire us.
Do you have an office in Manhattan?
Our office is at 1 Prospect Park SW, Suite 6E, Brooklyn, NY 11215, and Park Slope to the Financial District is 25 minutes and to Midtown 35 to 45 by subway, which is how most Manhattan site visits happen. Engineers come to you for anything the help desk cannot fix remotely, and monitoring runs around the clock from Brooklyn. Every agreement is month to month.
Does the NY SHIELD Act apply to a small business?
Yes. It applies to any business holding private information on a New York resident, with no employee-count threshold. Small businesses get a scaled standard, meaning safeguards appropriate to their size, but not an exemption, and the breach-notification duty under § 899-aa applies to everyone.
