IT Support for Professional Services in Chicago, IL

Chicago consultancies, agencies, staffing firms and advisory practices sell expertise, and their clients now ask hard questions about how that expertise is secured. NetSys runs the IT for firms like these remotely from Brooklyn: Microsoft 365 across offices and homes, managed laptops, answers for client security questionnaires and a safe path to Copilot.

The short answer

NetSys provides IT support for professional services firms in Chicago, including management and technology consultancies, marketing agencies, staffing and recruiting firms and advisory practices. Support is remote and cloud-based: Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, Intune-managed laptops, ThreatDown detection and response, Barracuda email protection, Keeper, backups, security questionnaire support and Microsoft Copilot readiness. We do not send engineers on site in Chicago; laptops ship ready through Windows Autopilot, so a new hire in Fulton Market or Denver signs in on day one. After an assessment we quote a monthly per-user fee, and the agreement runs one month at a time.

Chicago's consulting, agency and staffing offices

Chicago's professional firms follow their clients. McDonald's moved its headquarters to Fulton Market in 2018 and United Airlines is based in Willis Tower, and the consultancies, agencies and staffing firms that serve corporate headquarters like these cluster in the Loop, River North and the West Loop, with suburban offices along I-88 in Oak Brook and Downers Grove, near O'Hare in Rosemont and in Schaumburg. Many run two or three offices plus people who work from home in other states, so the firm's real office is its Microsoft 365 tenant. Corporate clients send vendor security questionnaires before a statement of work is signed, and the answers decide whether the work starts on time. Illinois adds its own layer: the Biometric Information Privacy Act, and since January 1, 2026 new obligations under the Illinois Human Rights Act for employers that use artificial intelligence in hiring and other employment decisions. Staffing and HR consulting firms feel that most directly, because they often run those tools for clients too.

Remote support for offices across Chicagoland and beyond

Consulting and agency staff are seldom in the same room, and the service is built for that. The reseller sends a new hire's laptop straight to their home; registered in Autopilot and managed by Intune, it installs the firm's apps, security agents and policies the first time they sign in. NinjaOne patches machines wherever they are, ThreatDown watches each one, and Conditional Access checks the device and the person before anyone reaches client files. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time, 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central, which also covers staff on either coast. NetSys does not send engineers on site. Office printers, conference room displays and network gear are configured remotely and connected by your office manager or the building's contractor.

Answering client security questionnaires

Security questionnaires, whether a standardized SIG, a CAIQ for cloud services or a client's own spreadsheet, ask the same things in different words: who can reach our data, is it encrypted, do you use multifactor authentication, how do you detect and respond to incidents, how are backups tested, do staff get training, which subcontractors touch our information. We keep the answers and the proof in one place. That includes policies written for your firm, multifactor and device compliance reports from Entra ID and Intune, ThreatDown coverage, backup restore records, KnowBe4 completion and a vendor list. Our complimentary external penetration test, performed remotely against a scope you approve, adds a current outside test result to cite. Our engineers can also join a call with a client's security team to explain the controls, which often settles questions faster than another round of written answers.

Copilot, AI tools and the Illinois rules

Most firms want Copilot or another AI assistant, and the risk is not the assistant itself but what it can already see. Before enabling Copilot we review SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams permissions and sharing links, apply sensitivity labels to client material, and set data-handling rules so a consultant cannot summarize a document they were never meant to open. Then we roll it out by role, with short sessions in the apps people use daily. We also help write the firm's AI use policy: approved tools, what client data may be entered and who reviews AI output before it reaches a client. Firms that use AI in recruiting or HR decisions carry extra duties in Illinois, because the Human Rights Act amendment requires notice to employees, and the Artificial Intelligence Video Interview Act has covered AI analysis of recorded interviews since 2020.

The rules that apply

Rules and client terms that shape IT for Chicago firms

Illinois Human Rights Act: artificial intelligence in employment

House Bill 3773, signed August 9, 2024 and effective January 1, 2026, prohibits employers from using artificial intelligence that has a discriminatory effect in recruitment, hiring, promotion, discipline, discharge or other terms of employment, bars using zip codes as a proxy for protected classes, and requires notice to employees when AI is used for those purposes. It applies to employers with one or more employees in Illinois during 20 or more weeks of the year, and the Department of Human Rights is responsible for rules on notice.

Artificial Intelligence Video Interview Act (820 ILCS 42)

Employers that ask applicants for Illinois-based roles to record video interviews and use AI to analyze them must, before the interview, tell applicants AI may be used, explain how it works and what general characteristics it evaluates, and obtain consent. Videos may be shared only with people whose expertise or technology is needed to evaluate the applicant, and on request must be destroyed, copies included, within 30 days. Staffing firms running these tools for clients should confirm who carries each duty.

Illinois BIPA and Windows Hello

BIPA governs private entities that collect fingerprints, face geometry and similar identifiers, requiring a public retention policy and informed written consent, and it carries a private right of action. Microsoft states that Windows Hello stores biometric data only on the local device as an encrypted template and never sends it to Microsoft or other servers. Whether that keeps a firm's use of face or fingerprint sign-in outside BIPA is a question for counsel; we document how each device stores the data so counsel can decide.

Illinois PIPA and client contract terms

The Personal Information Protection Act requires reasonable security for Illinois residents' personal information and makes the firm require similar protections from vendors it shares that data with. Client master service agreements can go further, with notification windows measured in hours, audit rights and minimum insurance. We map each obligation to a control and flag any that your current setup cannot meet. This is general information, not legal advice.

Common Questions

Professional Services Firms in Chicago: FAQs

What does IT support cost for a professional services firm in Chicago?

We quote a monthly price per user after reviewing the firm. The biggest variables for professional firms are the number of offices and remote staff, how many client-required controls and questionnaires you handle, whether you need Copilot or AI governance work, after-hours needs beyond monitoring, and whether someone internal keeps part of IT. Migrations, Copilot rollouts and office moves are quoted as projects. The agreement rolls month to month with no long-term commitment.

How does IT support work for Chicago professional services firms?

Entirely remotely and through the cloud, from Brooklyn. Laptops are configured through Intune and Windows Autopilot and ship to wherever the employee is, and we manage identity, security, Microsoft 365 and backups centrally. Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time. We do not send engineers to your offices, and office equipment is set up by your staff or building contractor with us guiding remotely.

How do you help us answer a SIG or CAIQ questionnaire?

We keep a maintained answer library and the evidence behind it, so most questions are answered from current records rather than memory. When a questionnaire arrives, we draft the technical answers, attach reports such as multifactor coverage, device compliance and backup tests, and mark each place where the truthful answer today is no, with the work needed to make it yes. Your team reviews and submits. Repeat questionnaires from the same client get faster each year.

Can you support staff in several offices and at home?

Yes, that is the normal case. Each office gets a managed firewall and Wi-Fi configured from the same template, home workers get the same security through Conditional Access and device management, and nobody depends on a VPN to a server closet. Files live in SharePoint and Teams with permissions by client or practice area. New offices, whether in Oak Brook or another state, are configured remotely and connected by local staff or contractors.

Is our Microsoft 365 tenant ready for Copilot?

Often not yet, because years of sharing links and broad permissions mean Copilot would surface documents people can technically open but should not see. We run a readiness review of SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams permissions, external sharing and sensitivity labels, fix what needs fixing, then license and train by role. We have published a case study of a Copilot rollout to an 18-person organization, which is not a Chicago engagement.

How fast can a new consultant be productive on day one?

When the laptop is ordered, it is registered to Windows Autopilot and assigned to the new hire. It ships directly to them, and on first sign-in it installs the firm's apps, security tools and settings, applies Conditional Access and syncs their Teams and SharePoint access by role. We create the account, licenses and groups ahead of the start date from your onboarding request, so day one is spent on client work rather than setup.
