IT Services and Cybersecurity in California

California companies, from Central Valley packers to Bay Area startups and Los Angeles law firms, need an IT company that answers quickly, keeps Microsoft 365 and security in order and can document its work for an auditor or insurer. NetSys does that remotely from Brooklyn, under month-to-month agreements, with a dedicated account manager for each client.

See how IT pricing works

The short answer

NetSys is an IT services and cybersecurity company that supports California organizations remotely from its office in Brooklyn, NY. One agreement can cover the help desk, Microsoft 365 and device management, ThreatDown managed detection and response, email security, restore-tested backups, network management and IT consulting. The help desk is staffed seven days a week from 1 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific, monitoring and emergency service run 24/7, and NetSys keeps no engineers on site in California, so laptops and network equipment ship configured. Managed IT and IT support are priced per user per month after an assessment, projects are quoted after scoping, and agreements run month to month.

  • One office, in Brooklyn, NY; California organizations are supported remotely and through the cloud
  • No engineers are sent to California offices: laptops ship enrolled in Intune and Windows Autopilot, and firewalls and access points ship configured
  • Monitoring and emergency service run 24/7; the help desk is staffed seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time (1 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific)
  • Month-to-month agreements and 98% client retention

What an IT company handles for a California business

IT in a growing California company tends to accumulate rather than get designed. The Microsoft 365 tenant was set up for ten people and now serves sixty, laptops were bought in batches with different settings, the firewall came from the internet provider, and the person who knows the passwords is also running sales. NetSys takes that over as one accountable provider. Engineers run the help desk, patch and monitor every device through NinjaOne, watch for attacks with ThreatDown and Microsoft Defender for Business, filter email through Barracuda, keep passwords in Keeper and restore Datto or Veeam backups on a schedule to prove they work. The California service pages go into detail: managed IT for the whole environment and its vendors, cybersecurity for threats and controls, and IT consulting for assessments and migrations. Sacramento, Roseville, Stockton and Modesto have pages of their own, and projects such as a server retirement are quoted separately.

How remote onboarding works for California businesses

Onboarding happens over video calls and through software. An engineer interviews the owner and whoever handles IT today, installs NinjaOne on each computer and reviews the firewall, Microsoft 365 tenant, backups and vendor list. You get a written plan and a per-user price before anything changes. The cutover is scheduled around your calendar, such as a quarter-end close, a harvest or a production deadline, and happens in stages with a rollback ready. Staff notice a multifactor prompt, a new security agent and one help desk number. Because support is remote, the hardware plan matters: replacement laptops are bought through a distributor, registered in Windows Autopilot and shipped to the user, while firewalls and access points arrive configured for your staff or a cabling contractor to plug in as an engineer in Brooklyn brings them online.

California industries and the systems they run

California's economy is too varied for one template. The state's farms and ranches took in $64.7 billion in 2025, and the Central Valley's packers, processors, dairies and farm lenders depend on ERP, scale and cold-chain systems that must keep running through harvest. San Joaquin County, by its own account, has the second-highest concentration of transportation and warehousing employment in the country. Sacramento runs on state government, associations and the health systems based there. Roseville is gaining a silicon carbide fab, with Bosch converting the former TSI Semiconductors plant. The coastal cities add biotech companies working in electronic lab notebooks, creative and media agencies moving large files, law firms on document management systems, property managers on property-management platforms and medical groups on EHR and billing systems. NetSys supports the infrastructure under each of those and works with the application vendor when a problem sits on their side.

Wildfire, power shutoffs, floods and earthquakes

Every California region has a disaster history that belongs in the IT plan. The November 2018 Camp Fire in Butte County, covered by federal declaration DR-4407, sent smoke across the Sacramento Valley and the Bay Area for days. In October 2019, PG&E's Public Safety Power Shutoffs cut power to hundreds of thousands of customers at a time. The January 2025 Los Angeles fires brought declaration DR-4856, and the winter storms of 2023 produced two declarations that each named more than 40 counties. Sacramento sits behind levees the Army Corps counts among the most at risk in the nation, and the state's faults make earthquake planning routine. The design that follows is consistent: files and email in Microsoft 365, servers in Azure or protected by Datto SIRIS with cloud recovery, backup copies outside the region, a cellular failover link on each firewall, and laptops that let people work from home on day one.

Security notes from recent California incidents

Public incidents across the state show what an outage costs. After ransomware struck the Superior Court of Los Angeles County on July 19, 2024, the court shut down its network, and every one of its 36 courthouses was closed the next business day. The Modesto Police Department lost its patrol-car laptops to ransomware in February 2023 and needed five weeks to bring 95 percent of its network back. In Stockton, the San Joaquin County Superior Court disclosed in November 2025 that an intruder had copied files from its systems over several days in October 2024. Sacramento Regional Transit was hit in 2017 and restored most of its erased data from backups without paying. The controls that limit this kind of damage are specific: multifactor authentication, managed detection and response, removal of everyday administrator rights, network segmentation, immutable backups and a written incident plan.

California law and the industry rules that apply

Civil Code 1798.81.5 requires businesses that own, license or maintain Californians' personal information to keep reasonable security and to require it by contract of third parties that receive the data. Civil Code 1798.82, amended by SB 446 for 2026, requires notice to affected residents within 30 calendar days of discovering a breach and a sample notice to the Attorney General within 15 days after that when more than 500 residents are involved. Larger businesses fall under the CCPA, and the California Privacy Protection Agency's first cybersecurity audit certifications are due in 2028. Medical providers follow the HIPAA Security Rule and the Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, tax preparers follow the FTC Safeguards Rule and IRS Publication 4557, investment advisers and broker-dealers follow Regulation S-P as amended in 2024, and the State Bar's Formal Opinion 2020-203 sets out lawyers' duties to protect client data and respond to breaches. This is general information, not legal advice.

Common Questions

California FAQs

Which IT company should a California business choose?

Look for a provider that can work across the distance and prove what it does. For a remote IT company that means management tools on every device, hardware that ships pre-enrolled, response commitments in writing, and documentation you can read, such as the network diagram and the vendor list. NetSys, founded in 1998, provides all of that from Brooklyn: an engineer-led help desk, a dedicated account manager you can call on a real cell number, and month-to-month agreements with 98% client retention.

How does IT support work for California organizations?

Everything runs remotely. Staff contact the help desk by phone, email or Teams, an engineer connects through NinjaOne, and the request is logged with its owner and fix. Monitoring and emergency response run 24/7; the help desk is staffed from 1 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific, seven days a week. Nobody from NetSys works on site in California. Laptops arrive enrolled in Intune and Windows Autopilot, network gear arrives configured, and your own electrician or cabling contractor handles physical installation while we confirm the result.

How is IT priced for a California business?

Both managed IT and IT support carry a monthly per-user fee that comes out of an assessment; there is no public rate card. The number of servers and locations, compliance work for HIPAA, the CCPA or a customer audit, after-hours needs beyond monitoring and emergencies, and the age of your hardware move the figure. Projects such as an Azure migration or a new office network are quoted after scoping, and hardware and licenses are billed separately. The managed IT pricing page explains where the fee ends and extra charges begin.

What services do you offer to businesses in California?

Six lines of work: managed IT services, IT support with an engineer-led help desk, cybersecurity, IT consulting and projects, Microsoft 365, Intune and Azure management, and backup with disaster recovery. Companies with internal IT staff can choose co-managed IT, and AI services such as Microsoft Copilot rollouts are available too. Security is part of every managed agreement rather than an add-on. State-level pages cover managed IT, cybersecurity and consulting across California, and Sacramento, Roseville, Stockton and Modesto each have their own pages.

Does the three-hour time difference with New York matter?

It mostly helps. The help desk is staffed from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern, which is 1 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific, so a California employee starting work at 6 a.m. reaches an engineer, and so does one finishing a deadline at 7 p.m. Maintenance and patching are scheduled for your nights, not ours. After 8 p.m. Pacific, monitoring continues and severe problems such as ransomware or a downed internet connection still go to a dedicated engineer.

What happens when hardware fails in a California office?

First, an engineer confirms it really is hardware, since a failed update, a loose dock or a full disk can look like a dead computer. Genuine failures go to warranty or to a replacement ordered through a distributor and registered with Windows Autopilot before it ships; the employee signs in, Intune restores apps and settings, and OneDrive brings back files. For firewalls and switches, the saved configuration in IT Glue is loaded before the unit leaves, so your office manager or cabling contractor only has to swap it.

Is there a no-cost way to start?

Yes, one. NetSys offers a free external penetration test: an outside-in test of the systems you expose to the internet, such as the firewall, VPN, email and the websites you list, within a scope agreed in writing. You receive a report of what an attacker could find and reach from outside, ranked by risk. It is a useful first look at your exposure, and it carries no obligation to sign a support agreement.

Do you work with companies that have offices in several California cities?

Yes. Multi-site companies get one standard across locations: the same firewall template managed from one console, the same Wi-Fi and Intune policies, one Entra ID identity per user and one help desk. IT Glue keeps a page for each office with circuit IDs, landlord contacts and vendor details. Because support is remote, a new office in San Diego is onboarded exactly like one in Sacramento, with equipment shipped configured and installed by a contractor near the office.
